WELL, DUH!

Feb 05, 2008 07:01am (EST)

Sorry for all the hit and run blogs but with all of the funny things this little one has been coming out lately, I would shoot myself for having not recorded them

Last night we were playing school (which has been her favorite lately) and when 'class' was coming to an end, I asked her to start cleaning up her work space as it is almost time for class to end. She then asks "Is the bus here already?" In turn, I asked her "Why? Are you taking the bus home?". Well, she looks at me with this 'Are you seriously kidding me' look and says "Nooooooo.......the bus is taking meeeeee home" Well, duh!

She got me. I certainly can't argue with that logic. *sigh* It's happening......she is out witting me already.

------------
It is times like this when she has been our rainbow around here. Today my aunt (Meek's caregiver) will undergo back to back surgeries. I ask that you all please keep her in your thoughts and prayers during these scary times for our family

xoxo

THE CHURCH.....LADY?

Jan 30, 2008 07:13am (EST)

As promised, the church incident(s)

Our church recently moved into a new building and this new one doesn't have the treasured 'cry' room that our old building had. The 'cry' room was a glass enclosed room that parents could take their little ones to roam around freely but yet they could still see and hear the entire service. So I've decided to bring Domonique into service with me and see how long she lasts before I shuttle her over to the nursery.

Anywhooo....Back track two weeks ago....I've tried to explain how she needs to be super quiet because we were going to hear the words of god. She did pretty good during the first part of the service but when it came time for the sermon she shouts (in her most quiet voice) "Is that god talking"? Of course this got many giggles from those close to us and Meek loved the attention of her new found 'captive audience'. I totally lost her attention and into the nursery she went.

This past Sunday I decided to let her wear a dress. She rarely wears dresses and has only worn one twice since she's been out of a diaper. The previous two times she had on stockings and they covered her panties but I didn't have any that matched this dress so she just wore socks. I took her potty before service started and shortly into the service she has to go again. Big surprise there We returned shortly before the second reading and I was having a hard time getting her to sit still in her seat. I guess she was also not used to this new found 'leg freedom' that you get from wearing a dress because Just as they started the second reading she leans back in her chair, lifts her legs and grabs her crotch and shouts "Uh-oh, I'm only wearing my panties" "Mommy, why you not put pants on me?" "We better go back to the bafroom and get my pants" I turned every shade of red and quickly escorted her to the nursery. I peeked in on her after the service and she was laying on the floor with her legs up in the air. No more dresses for her! At least not without stockings on to cover her panties.

BTW - Thanks Kathy and Tracy for the advice on getting her to keep her legs together while peeing. The first time I tried that she pitched a fit crying. I think she was afraid it wouldn't work. Anyway, I just let her go how she is most comfortable. Well yesterday morning she comes running into me saying "It worked mommy" I said "What worked honey" and she said "Peeing like a lady" (I told her that ladies keep their legs together - Good advice, huh? ) So I gave her a hug and told her how proud I was. I hope she keeps it up.

THE POTTY CHRONICLES

Jan 28, 2008 07:06am (EST)

I realized I haven't blogged about Meek in quite some time. She is growing up so fast I can hardly believe it.

3yrs is such a wonderful age but at the same time she is turning my hair gray! (ok...that could be my old age lol) Every day she comes out with things that just crack us up.

She is still tiny enough to sit in her highchair but refuses because highchairs are for babies I still put her in it whenever she'll let me but I'm sure it will be gone by summer.

She continues to do well with the potty however she must get completely naked from the waist down before she'll go. Let me explain..... When she pees she has a stream like a little boy and it comes up and over the front of the toilet. This has caused her to get her underwear and pants wet and she totally freaks out if this happens. I don't blame her. The poor kid trys so hard to get to the bathroom on time and still winds up with wet pants. Really not her fault at all. I've told her to sit back further on the seat but now she sits so far back I'm afraid she will fall in!

She also does well with poopy. Although she has become so self sufficient that she just goes in and does her business and doesn't even tell me. The only problem with this is she doesn't wipe very well yet

I have to share a couple of funnies with you (The kind that will really embarrass her when she is older ) Last night she was sitting at the table and she shot a couple bunnies (tooted) she did say excuse me but then she lifts up her butt to look at her pants and says "Nope, no holes"! OMG I about died laughing at her! I think this comes from the fact that she is sometimes so LOUD that we comment she is going to put a hole in her pants! This morning after Mike left for work she crawled into bed with me. She shot another bunny and then says "I think I smell a poopy coming on" lol Where does she get this stuff?! Surely from her father! lol

I better stop here before I'm late for work. I'll have to blog again later this week and tell you about the church incident

REMEMBER ME???

Jan 11, 2008 04:35pm (EST)

Do you guys remember me? Domonique's mommy? Good gracious it has been a crazy, busy month.

I haven't told too many people but I recently got a promotion at work. We haven't found a replacement for my old position yet so I've kinda been working both jobs. I think we finally do have someone lined up though so - fingers crossed I was on the road all this week training for my new position and I really think I'm gonna love it. Hopefully by the first of February I will be able to concentrate on the new job 100%. Due to the changes at work and the busy holiday season I haven't found any time for Share Talk about withdrawal!!! You are all like my extended family and I really miss you guys. Once I get settled into my new postion I will actually have MORE time for Share than I have in the past. Yay!!! (well.....fingers crossed anyway )

We really had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's. Domonique really was at the perfect age to celebrate both and she was a lot of fun. If I find the time to edit the video I will post a link.

Update on potty training:
Lately she has been refusing to use her potty but...........that is because she only wants to use the big girl toilet!! Isn't that awesome!! I can't remember the last time I bought diapers or pullups although she still wears them to bed occassionally.

I have been participating in P366 and if you have been in the cafe recently you will know what this is. (A challenge to take a pic a day all year that is representative of how you spent that day) I've been doing pretty good although I do have a week's worth that need to be uploaded.

I miss you all and hope to catch up with you all soon! xoxo

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF MOMS.....

Dec 15, 2007 09:22am (EST)

Domonique has really been pushing my buttons lately. I think her recent illness has her extra 'whiny' I am a fairly patient mom, but one thing that really grates on my nerves is a whiny kid.

If any of you remember my 'Pa Ingells' comment from last year, you know that when pushed to the limit I come out with some really witty cliches.

This latest episode happened to be at meal time (again ) She was really carrying on so the genious mommy that I am tells her to "Quit acting like a two year old" Ummmm, considering that she is only 3yrs I didn't exactly make the impact I was shooting for. OK, so chalk that up to another brilliant 'mommy moment'

In my defense, she really comes out with some 'mature' things at times and I almost forget she is only 3. Just this morning she ordered me out of her room saying, "No adults allowed" wtf???? I just know she will be ruling this household soon. Lord please give me the strength to keep control.

THE SUPER-DUPER 3,000 BLOG

Dec 06, 2007 10:04pm (EST)

If you don't have toddlers at home who watch Wow, Wow, Wubsy, you might not understand the title of my blog. Lately, Meek has been turning everything she plays with into the 'Super- Duper 3,000' I'm serious. Hairbrushes, remote controls, graham crackers. You name it, she will magically turn it into the 'Super-duper 3,000'!! At first I was thinking maybe we watch waaaay too many infomercials or that silly Oxyclean commercial has brainwashed her. lol Then one lazy day I was laying in bed with her watching cartoons ( Supermom here, 'member? lol) and this show comes on and I hear them talk about the 'Super 3000' and I was instantly hooked. (Yes, this is why I get sucked into infomercials, QVC,HSN and I have a closet full of that 'As seen on TV' junk ) It is actually a pretty cool 'McGyver' like cartoon show and Domonique is hooked! Neither Dora nor Elmo stand a chance when this show is on. Maybe my little girl wants to be an engineer. Cool!

In other news, she has been speaking pretty clearly for quite some time now (unless I've just mastered the translation lol)so I was a bit surprised last week when she said something I couldn't understand. She went and got the step stool and put it in front of the Christmas tree and was starting to climb up when I yelled at her to get down. She kept insisting she had to "deduct" the tree. ???? huh? I asked her to repeat it several times and she kept saying "deduct". I had to repeatedly ask her what she meant and finally she demonstrated with her hands. It was then that I realized she was trying to "conduct" the musical Christmas tree! I couldn't help but get a kick out of the way she pronounced it and I kept making her repeat it. That and the word 'vanilla'. She pronounces that "valilla" and for some reason it just tickles me to hear her say it.

I almost forgot the biggest news.............drum roll please!...........She is pretty much potty trained!!! I still put a pull-up on her at night but she has been waking up dry and going on the big toilet during the day. She has been really good about telling me she has to go when we are out and about. I am so excited and now she can finally go to the pre-school I want her in (They require kids to be potty trained). I will probably see if they have any openings in January just for a day or two/week.

Well, that's all I've got for now. Things have been kind of hectic around here. So maybe this was just the 'Super-Duper 2,000' blog! lol

THANKSGIVING AND OTHER GOBBLE, GOBBLE

Dec 03, 2007 07:13am (EST)

So much has been going on around these parts I thought it was high time to update my blog.

Thanksgiving was nice but uneventful. Had dinner at my mil's and had to work Friday and Sat. after. I did manage to get my tree up and some deco and I will post pics when I get it completely finished.

I've started doing a lot more 'mommy & me' type stuff with Domonique. A friend told me about a weekly group called music makers and it fit in perfect with my schedule. It is an hour filled with different holiday themed interactive songs, marching, bubble time, ball time and story time. The class stays on the same schedule each week so the kids learn what to expect next. The best part is it is FREE! Yay! Gotta love that! Meek absolutely loves it and now looks forward to it weekly. She is not shy at all and will quickly raise her hand to participate in certain activities.

I also took her to her first puppet show at the Library. It was Thanksgiving week and I found out about it last minute. I rushed home from work to change clothes and get her ready also. As I searched for something to change into I realized I hadn't done laundry in a loooooong time Seriously, I couldn't find so much as a clean sweatshirt. (I really need to get on the ball) Anyhoooo....I dig into this bin of clothes on a shelf in my closet (that I never wear and should have gotten rid of long ago ) and I pulled out this sweatshirt that has an autumn scene on the front and is really Thanksgiving(y) looking (and dorky ) and I thought "what the heck", and put it on. Well when I got there and was talking with some of the other parents, one of the moms commented on my shirt and how festive I looked! I started laughing and I swear if I was drinking something I would have spit it out my nose. All I could think about was Denise's recent blog about the pumpkin sweatshirt and the 'supermoms' who wear them. This mom must've thought the same about me but little did she know that all my other clothes were dirty and this was my only choice!

Domonique had a relatively short attention span when it came to the show and was more interested in the water fountain and insisted on getting a drink every 5 minutes I was actually quite surprised when she retold Mike what the play was about. I guess she was paying more attention than I thought.
I about died when she looks over at another child and says in her 'loudest' quiet voice "Wow mom, look how big that girl is" "That's one big girl there mom" Thankfully the little girl was not chubby she was just a big-boned (but well proportioned) girl for her age and her mom started laughing. Thank god she found the humor in it because I about died of embarassment! I tried to explain to Meek about her inappropriate comment but of course that got me absolutely nowhere.

Oh darn, it's getting late and I better get to work. I have so much more to update on but it will have to wait. I promise to blog later this week about Domonique's progress with potty training (it's a good thing ) and some of her new vocabulary.

Here are some pics from T-day

THE SUN IS OUT IT MUST BE SUNDAY

Nov 16, 2007 08:39am (EST)

Well, not quite........

Yay! It's Friday!! I can't remember the last time I was so happy to see Friday roll around. (ok....well, maybe last Friday lol) I just had a crabby month and I am really looking forward to taking it easy this weekend.

As I was driving Meek over to auntie's this morning I was trying to explain why I was so happy. She doesn't quite understand the days of the week yet. She knows that mommy goes out of town on Wednesday night and she gets to sleep with mom-mom (my mom) Mom-mom also brings her home a treat and we now refer to this as Surprise Wednesday. Other than that, she doesn't quite get it. I decided to start teaching her the days of the week and what to expect on those days. We started with Monday since this is the first day back to work/school etc. I then filled her in on the joys of the weekend and why I love Saturday and Sunday so much. When I look in the rearview mirror I could see she is giving this some serious thought and I am feeling pretty proud of my little 'mommy' moment. She was quiet for quite awhile until she shouts out "There's the sun, mom" "See mom, it's Sunday already mom!" TGIF!!

VIRUSES AND OTHER NASTY THINGS

Nov 07, 2007 02:29pm (EST)

I'm sure that was a real welcoming title. Sorry

Some of you may have noticed I've been absent from Share this past week. Those that didn't, well......see how you are? lol I had MAJOR computer problems most likely caused by a stinkin virus. Tell me, What sick, deranged computer geek gets pleasure from these things anyway? and what silly fool would go online on an unfamiliar server without virus protection? woops....I guess I would be the latter.

OK..so admittedly I don't have a clue about computers and antispyware and all that other important technogeeky stuff but thanks to Darcy I am learning some cool stuff and I'm slowly learning the hard way about the other (not so fun) stuff.

So on Monday (after deciding to NOT throw my computer out the window) I did a total system restore and loaded it up with anti-virus software. I managed to save some pics but other than that I pretty much lost everything. Talk about a knot in your stomach. It was such a sickening feeling. I am still not completely up and running yet, but hopefully by this time next week I will be caught up.

In the midst of all of my computer troubles I found out that several of our Share kiddos have been fighting real life, nasty viruses. Two of them even wound up in the hospital. Suddenly this put all of my problems into perspective. My thoughts drifted back to when Meek was in the hospital fighting Roto-virus. I would have given anything to be able to get rid of it with a simple system restore and some antivirus software.

Unfortunately this is the time of year when we need to keep our guard up to prevent all the nasties (both viral and bacterial) from infecting our kiddos. Tomorrow afternoon (Nov. at 3:30 EST Share will be hosting a LIVE CHAT about RSV (and other not so fun stuff ) with special guest speaker Dr. Scott Berns. Please join us as we discuss preventative measures and how to handle cabin fever.

Karen

ps.. Please know that although my Share time is temporarily limited, I am trying my best to keep tabs on all our Share kiddos and will continue to keep them all in my prayers for a quick recovery. And NO MORE SICKIES!!

HALLOWEEN KITTY

Nov 01, 2007 07:43am (EST)

Well, after Meek had a MAJOR meltdown yesterday afternoon (didn't have a nap ) I wasn't sure how trick or treating would go. Thankfully after dinner she started to behave a bit better so I got her in costume.

This was the first year that she really appreciated the whole trick or treating thing. She was a bit shy at first (hiding her head when we approached someone's door) but she got the hang of it pretty quickly and had a ball. She didn't really grasp the 'candy' thing since she doesn't each much, but she just LOVED the idea of getting 'treats' for her basket. She was so good about saying Trick or Treat? and making sure she said Thank you.

The only problem I had was when she would just walk into people's homes when they opened the door. (obviously we need to work on that one ) Also, her costume started to come apart. Really not made very well at all.

All and all she had a great time and we she got a lot of cool stuff.

Hope everyone had a safe night!!
