MY MORNING WITH MEEK

Apr 22, 2008 09:57am (EST)

I am awakened at 6am by a kiss on the cheek as hubby scurries out the door for work. In a daze, I cuss my old age and the pain shooting through my body. I suddenly become aware that I’m all twisted up because I fell asleep on the couch last night. Yep, during our little party in the Share café last night, I remember going to gather up some real yummies and sit for just a little while and watch Medium on TV. That is all I remember….…. until this morning. I woke up amongst empty candy wrappers and I was still in the clothes I had on last night. (Thankfully, my alcohol consumption is limited to the Share café so I have no hangover to contend with)

With the thought of our nice comfy bed all to myself, I hurry upstairs only to find Meek spread out in my bed (teddy bears and all) I carefully slide her over and grab a corner of the pillow for myself. Aaaah pure bliss. Less than 30 mins. later there are two little hands violently shaking my shoulders “C’mon mom, get up, it’s morndin time” “See mom the sun’s awake, time to get up mom” When I fail to acknowledge her she starts yelling “GET. UP. NOW. MOM. I don’t want to be laaaaaaate for schoooooooool” (in her very whiny voice ) I quickly yell out “Ok, Ok…..I’m up already!” and then I tackle her and smother her in kissies and hugs. She starts giggling and says “I thought you wasn’t gonna get up mom” lol I look at her and start singing “Hellooooo, Helloooo” and she sings back “Hellooooo, Helloooo” and we both sing the chorus “I don’t know why you say goodbye, I say hello” (yea, were both hooked on the Target commercial )

We go into Meek’s room to find an outfit for school. She is getting very particular about what she wants to wear now. “I want to wear my Hello Kitty panties mom. All the kids are gonna love these” “Honey, remember we don’t show other people our underwear” and she says “I still want to wear them mom” Next, I pick out a really cute outfit for her and she starts crying because she has her own ideas of what she wants to wear. Nope, not gonna happen. I’m not gonna give in. If I’m responsible for getting her dressed in the morning then she will have to wear what I pick for her. She continues to cry even as I’m trying to brush her teeth. Next comes another argument over what shoes she will wear. Suddenly the light up Dora shoes that she wore every day last week are not good enough and we have to find her pink sneaks with the snowflakes on them As I am putting her shoes on her, I catch her picking her nose I gasp and say, “Honey, please don’t pick your nose. Your fingers are dirty and you might get an infection”. She gives me this dirty look and then takes her finger out of her nose and stares at it for a few seconds. The next thing I know she puts this finger into her mouth! She then quickly takes it out, looks at it and then shows me her finger and says, “No it’s not. See, I just cleaned it” EEEEEEW! Well I clearly should have seen that coming.

We were getting ready to walk out the door when she says “Uh -oh mom, you forgooooot my mediciiiiiiine” and she rolls her eyes at me. Oh darn! I start cussing myself. Partly because we are already running late, but mostly because I apparently need to have my three year old remind me to give her her meds!

After dropping her off at school I quickly head over to Wal-mart to pick up some Tee shirts for our walk. Ofcourse I continue to hum the Target theme song in my head I would much rather go there but it is too far away and Wal-mart is just 2 minutes from Meek's school. I picked up the shirts I needed (and about $75 worth of stuff I didn't ) and headed back to the baby section. As I look at all the cute clothes, I realized that it won't be much longer and she will insist on picking out her own clothes to buy. *sigh* I was also looking at all the cool baby gear they have out now. Can you believe they even sell little plastic urinals next to the potty seats? Holy cow! I wasn't expecting to see that! which reminds me.......my mom took her in a co-ed bathroom last week and she saw her first urinal "What's that mom-mom?" My mom was caught off guard and just told her to ask her daddy! lol

MY LIL MEDICATED KNOW IT ALL

Apr 13, 2008 04:13pm (EST)

We're all sick around these parts and kinda having a lazy weekend. I finally took Meek to urgent care yesterday to get some antibiotics. It's been a couple of weeks and I figured enough is enough. Let's get this baby feeling better. Her ears were really red inside and she said her face hurt. Poor baby probably has a sinus infection on top of her chest cold. She is in pretty good spirits though and it hasn't slowed her down too much.

So Domonique informed me last night that she will be having four children. (Probably the meds talking )
After I catch my breath I ask her, "So what are you going to name your babies?" She takes a minute to think about this (even goes so far as to put her finger to her chin and knot her brow ) and she exclaims, "North, South, East and West" I bust up laughing! Talk about mapping out your future!! lol

These days she is more and more sure of herself. Yep, she is turning into a regular know-it-all and sometimes in a not so funny way .....yes, she has also increased her time in the 'time out' chair! lol She has become quite bossy and those that know me will know that kind of 'tude' just doesn't sit well with me. Can you believe she has even taken to back seat driving? Yep, she had the nerve to remind me the other day that I'm supposed to be driving with BOTH hands on the wheel and to turn the radio up!! She tells me 'the right way to do things' all the time. hmmmmmm..........

I'm making progress on my MFB's projects. I just wish my donations were keeping up. *sigh*

I designed a Team shirt but I'm not wild about it. If I can't think of another design in the next week, I'll just go ahead and print these up. I still only have 5 walkers (not including Meek) with the possibility of 3 more. I guess it's just gonna be a wait and see at this point.

I'm also gonna start work on a storyboard to display in the Family Team's tent. I made one last year and I'll probably just update that one with the new colors and logo.

Did I mention that our NICU reunion is gonna take place at MFB this year? I am super excited about this, especially since this is the first reunion the hospital has planned since Meek was discharged. It will also be a good opportunity for us to recruit more family teams for next year.

I can't believe our 'March' is less then 2 wks away!!

"IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME"

Apr 08, 2008 06:40pm (EST)

OK...so maybe this is a bad analogy (if not corny ), but if you take the time to create a page on the MFB website -AND- you notify friends and family through email of said page....then yes, they will come. (Well, at least some of them anyway )

I'm so proud of myself for (FINALLY) sending out an email notifying my friends and family that we are once again walking for Team Domonique at the annual March for Babies. Truth be told, I only have email addresses for about a dozen of them , but two have already replied! Mike doesn't do email so he took his form in work and received donations that way. Yay! We're finally on our way!!

My next project is our Team shirts. I've decided to do iron-ons once again. When you have less then 10 people on your team, it's probably the easiest (and cheapest) way to go. I'm still tossing around design ideas in my head, so we might just come down to the wire with this one!

Don't forget to join the live chat on April 9th about March for Babies. Check out the Community center for more details.

---------------------------------------

In other news....Meek has been sick with a nasty chest cold. She got it shortly after her doctor's visit a few weeks ago (big surprise there ) and just hasn't been able to shake it. She finally hit the 27lb mark (still not on the charts ) and now her clothes are hanging on her again. She has no appetite and I really hate giving her too much milk when she is so congested. Mike and I have been feeling kinda icky lately also. I'm on the road this week and another bad storm is supposed to hit the high country. The only thing I hate worse then winter driving when I don't feel well, is being away from my baby when she doesn't feel well. Please tell me that summer will be here soon.

I had to post these pics below of the before and after Easter basket That was lipgloss she got all over her mouth and later her dress (You can see the Easter bunny still brings mommy and daddy baskets too. We LOVE us some Robin eggs! )

GETTING MY "MARCHING" SHOES ON!

Mar 26, 2008 08:47pm (EST)

I know it's been a long time since I've blogged. Since it is a well known fact that I am a big time procrastinator, I am ten times worse when I am overwhelmed with work. Example being, anything that doesn't have to be done rightthisminute can wait. And wait is has! I can't believe March is almost over and March for Babies is right around the corner Don't get me wrong, I love March season but holy cr*p I haven't done a stinkin thing with my family team yet.

A friend asked me last week to send her the link to my MFB's page. I must admit that I was embarrassed to send it. Not only had I not received any donations, but I had not even updated it from last year! I decided right then and there that I better get my butt in gear and get my team together. I uploaded some videos I made for the PSA contest last fall and I even changed out the pic. Sometimes all it takes is a friend to help motivate you. Trust me, motivation is contagious! This friend also left me my very first donation for 2008 and that has left me even more motivated! Thanks friend!

I am truly in awe of all the great volunteers we have here in the Share community. So many of you are so creative in your fundraising and the $$ you have already received is a reflection of your hard work and dedication. Bravo to you!!!
But where does that leave me? In all honesty I feel deflated. I almost gave up before I started because I felt like the little bit that I am able to contribute won't make a difference. But isn't there a golden rule we apply here at Share when it comes to our preemies? "Don't compare your baby to other babies" I guess the same rule applies to fundraising. Don't feel like you have to keep the same level of fundraising as other teams. Ok, so I just made that rule up but it works for me so go with me here! lol

I have four weeks before MFB's and instead of panicking, I am going to take baby steps and set weekly goals for myself. This week I will focus on writing a letter to email and reg. mail to friends and family (My friend Angel is even letting me copy some ideas from the letter she sent out). Thanks to Professor Darcy I even learned how to "Get Techie" with my email signature and such. Thanks Darcy!

If any of you have yet to get started, now is the time to do it! Trust me, if I can do it, so can you! Let's motivate each other!!

I also read that the next live chat here at Share will be on April 9th. It will be all about March for Babies and ideas on how to have a great "March Day"! We won't want to miss this one!

Not only do I walk for each and everyone of our Share babies, but because of this little burst of sunshine that fills my days with laughter and love

MY BABY STARTED SCHOOL!

Feb 24, 2008 05:05pm (EST)

I can't believe my little baby started pre-school. I can't believe I actually cried! Not a lot....but still.

That's right. Friday, February 15th, my little itsy bitsy started school. I've wanted to start her a couple days/wk for some time now but most places require they be potty trained so I couldn't start her at the start of the school year. Once she was trained I was on a mission to find the perfect school. I did find a school I love, but there was a waiting list until September. Due to a health crisis, our aunt is unable to watch her at this time so I had to make immediate arrangements. My first two options caused me such anxiety I seriously thought I might have to quit my job and stay home with her. A good Share buddy suggested an on-line nanny site but there was literally only 3 nannies to choose from in this area and one wanted a live-in situation. Now I was in a panic.

My mom remembered an aquaintance of hers owned a daycare/pre-school so we called her to see if she had any openings. We lucked out and Domonique was able to start the next day. She goes every day 8-5 and the pre-school portion is from 9 - 11:30. They feed her breakfast and lunch....wait, let me re-word that, they OFFER her breakfast and lunch but she barely eats a thing. *sigh* Many of the meals are foods she likes and will eat at home, she just won't eat there. I hope she settles in soon because honestly, she can't afford to miss a meal.

They do take naps at this place and Domonique cried the first day although she did fall asleep. She now takes a nap everyday and this has carried over to the weekends. YAY!!! She also loves the little toilets (just her size!) and wonders why we don't have one at home lol

Here is a pic of her outside her new school with auntie.

WELL, DUH!

Feb 05, 2008 07:01am (EST)

Sorry for all the hit and run blogs but with all of the funny things this little one has been coming out lately, I would shoot myself for having not recorded them

Last night we were playing school (which has been her favorite lately) and when 'class' was coming to an end, I asked her to start cleaning up her work space as it is almost time for class to end. She then asks "Is the bus here already?" In turn, I asked her "Why? Are you taking the bus home?". Well, she looks at me with this 'Are you seriously kidding me' look and says "Nooooooo.......the bus is taking meeeeee home" Well, duh!

She got me. I certainly can't argue with that logic. *sigh* It's happening......she is out witting me already.

------------
It is times like this when she has been our rainbow around here. Today my aunt (Meek's caregiver) will undergo back to back surgeries. I ask that you all please keep her in your thoughts and prayers during these scary times for our family

xoxo

THE CHURCH.....LADY?

Jan 30, 2008 07:13am (EST)

As promised, the church incident(s)

Our church recently moved into a new building and this new one doesn't have the treasured 'cry' room that our old building had. The 'cry' room was a glass enclosed room that parents could take their little ones to roam around freely but yet they could still see and hear the entire service. So I've decided to bring Domonique into service with me and see how long she lasts before I shuttle her over to the nursery.

Anywhooo....Back track two weeks ago....I've tried to explain how she needs to be super quiet because we were going to hear the words of god. She did pretty good during the first part of the service but when it came time for the sermon she shouts (in her most quiet voice) "Is that god talking"? Of course this got many giggles from those close to us and Meek loved the attention of her new found 'captive audience'. I totally lost her attention and into the nursery she went.

This past Sunday I decided to let her wear a dress. She rarely wears dresses and has only worn one twice since she's been out of a diaper. The previous two times she had on stockings and they covered her panties but I didn't have any that matched this dress so she just wore socks. I took her potty before service started and shortly into the service she has to go again. Big surprise there We returned shortly before the second reading and I was having a hard time getting her to sit still in her seat. I guess she was also not used to this new found 'leg freedom' that you get from wearing a dress because Just as they started the second reading she leans back in her chair, lifts her legs and grabs her crotch and shouts "Uh-oh, I'm only wearing my panties" "Mommy, why you not put pants on me?" "We better go back to the bafroom and get my pants" I turned every shade of red and quickly escorted her to the nursery. I peeked in on her after the service and she was laying on the floor with her legs up in the air. No more dresses for her! At least not without stockings on to cover her panties.

BTW - Thanks Kathy and Tracy for the advice on getting her to keep her legs together while peeing. The first time I tried that she pitched a fit crying. I think she was afraid it wouldn't work. Anyway, I just let her go how she is most comfortable. Well yesterday morning she comes running into me saying "It worked mommy" I said "What worked honey" and she said "Peeing like a lady" (I told her that ladies keep their legs together - Good advice, huh? ) So I gave her a hug and told her how proud I was. I hope she keeps it up.

THE POTTY CHRONICLES

Jan 28, 2008 07:06am (EST)

I realized I haven't blogged about Meek in quite some time. She is growing up so fast I can hardly believe it.

3yrs is such a wonderful age but at the same time she is turning my hair gray! (ok...that could be my old age lol) Every day she comes out with things that just crack us up.

She is still tiny enough to sit in her highchair but refuses because highchairs are for babies I still put her in it whenever she'll let me but I'm sure it will be gone by summer.

She continues to do well with the potty however she must get completely naked from the waist down before she'll go. Let me explain..... When she pees she has a stream like a little boy and it comes up and over the front of the toilet. This has caused her to get her underwear and pants wet and she totally freaks out if this happens. I don't blame her. The poor kid trys so hard to get to the bathroom on time and still winds up with wet pants. Really not her fault at all. I've told her to sit back further on the seat but now she sits so far back I'm afraid she will fall in!

She also does well with poopy. Although she has become so self sufficient that she just goes in and does her business and doesn't even tell me. The only problem with this is she doesn't wipe very well yet

I have to share a couple of funnies with you (The kind that will really embarrass her when she is older ) Last night she was sitting at the table and she shot a couple bunnies (tooted) she did say excuse me but then she lifts up her butt to look at her pants and says "Nope, no holes"! OMG I about died laughing at her! I think this comes from the fact that she is sometimes so LOUD that we comment she is going to put a hole in her pants! This morning after Mike left for work she crawled into bed with me. She shot another bunny and then says "I think I smell a poopy coming on" lol Where does she get this stuff?! Surely from her father! lol

I better stop here before I'm late for work. I'll have to blog again later this week and tell you about the church incident

REMEMBER ME???

Jan 11, 2008 04:35pm (EST)

Do you guys remember me? Domonique's mommy? Good gracious it has been a crazy, busy month.

I haven't told too many people but I recently got a promotion at work. We haven't found a replacement for my old position yet so I've kinda been working both jobs. I think we finally do have someone lined up though so - fingers crossed I was on the road all this week training for my new position and I really think I'm gonna love it. Hopefully by the first of February I will be able to concentrate on the new job 100%. Due to the changes at work and the busy holiday season I haven't found any time for Share Talk about withdrawal!!! You are all like my extended family and I really miss you guys. Once I get settled into my new postion I will actually have MORE time for Share than I have in the past. Yay!!! (well.....fingers crossed anyway )

We really had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's. Domonique really was at the perfect age to celebrate both and she was a lot of fun. If I find the time to edit the video I will post a link.

Update on potty training:
Lately she has been refusing to use her potty but...........that is because she only wants to use the big girl toilet!! Isn't that awesome!! I can't remember the last time I bought diapers or pullups although she still wears them to bed occassionally.

I have been participating in P366 and if you have been in the cafe recently you will know what this is. (A challenge to take a pic a day all year that is representative of how you spent that day) I've been doing pretty good although I do have a week's worth that need to be uploaded.

I miss you all and hope to catch up with you all soon! xoxo

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF MOMS.....

Dec 15, 2007 09:22am (EST)

Domonique has really been pushing my buttons lately. I think her recent illness has her extra 'whiny' I am a fairly patient mom, but one thing that really grates on my nerves is a whiny kid.

If any of you remember my 'Pa Ingells' comment from last year, you know that when pushed to the limit I come out with some really witty cliches.

This latest episode happened to be at meal time (again ) She was really carrying on so the genious mommy that I am tells her to "Quit acting like a two year old" Ummmm, considering that she is only 3yrs I didn't exactly make the impact I was shooting for. OK, so chalk that up to another brilliant 'mommy moment'

In my defense, she really comes out with some 'mature' things at times and I almost forget she is only 3. Just this morning she ordered me out of her room saying, "No adults allowed" wtf???? I just know she will be ruling this household soon. Lord please give me the strength to keep control.
