Re: Previous Premature Birth

I was wondering since we are talking of trying again soon, did your doctor automatically put you on progesterone shots and brethine or did they see how the pregnancy was progressing?

Not all women are good candidates for progesterone, but you can talk to your doctor about this. For example, women carrying multiple babies (research has shown) receive no benefit from them.

I had HELLP with my first and now pregnant again!!!

Hello.....so glad to find a site where I can discuss what I went through with others who can relate. I had HELLP syndrome when I was 30 weeks with my daughter Daniela. I was in a very bad state. Everyone thought that it was gastritis. I recall complaining about abdominal pain and I was going into shock. When they realized the problem at the hospital....they rushed me into the ER for a c-section.....I had blood platelets transfusions, steriods, high blood pressure (210/110)....you name it......It was the scariest moment in my life. My Daughter weighed 2 pounds and 9 1/2 onz and was in the NICU for 46 days......she had a lot of complications......God blessed me with her.....she is healthy and no complications now....I went through the same trauma.....not knowing if I should have another baby in the near future....since this could happen again...or....maybe it won't the next time......guess what.... I am pregnant with my second child.....I am already 28 weeks and feel good so far......no high blood pressure to date .....Doc. is watching me and I am trying my hardest to stay strong....sometimes I get scared and cry....I guess its normal ...but I have faith in God......He keeps me strong.....I have heard of my husband's friend who had Hellp the first time and then had 4 more without complications.....Stay strong and follow your instinct and heart.....many blessings to all

    Iara,

I know what you mean about feeling scared. I'll be 20 weeks on Monday with my second after preterm labor at 26 weeks (gave birth at 30 after 4 long weeks in the hospital). One day, I feel confident because all is going so well this time. The next minute I am petrified that something is going to go wrong. I guess it goes with the territory!

    Stay strong! Jen

ruptured membranes at 26 weeks, now 13 weeks and hopeful!!!

Has anyone any advice about second pregnancy after PROM?? Had 27 weeker who is now wonderfully healthy and nearly 2 years. We just got the courage to try again. It seems progesterone is recommended although they seem unsure if it is really effective with PROM. Plus anyone else with previous rupture I would love to hear your story on your second pregnancy.
    thanks emma

Momma of Sky - now 3 (32 weeker) and Will - 2 years old! (37 weeks)

I don't have any advice with PROM, but I wanted to wish you both the best of luck. I had a preemie for what appeared to be unknown reasons at 32 weeks and was so scared in my second pregnancy. Luckily we realized that I have an incompetent cervix in time and after lying on the couch for 6 months we had a little boy. He's now 2 and I'm pregnant with number 3 (almost 19 weeks). I'm still worried, but things seem to be going well. I have a cerclage so that gives me some peace of mind. It's scary being pregnant again, but good things do happen! I wish you both the best!

I did not have PROM, but my very good friend did. She was put on the shots, starting at 16 weeks, because they felt it couldn't hurt. Even though there was no proof it helped with PROM. She just went into labor the other day at 39 weeks!

    Good luck! Jen

    Hi Emma

I'm 10 weeks pregnant after 2 PROM babies, Ruby who was born at 31 weeks after PROM at 28 weeks, and is now 4, and Sonny, who we lost earlier this year after PROM (although different form Ruby's as it was caused by a large retroplacental clot) at 21 weeks.

I'm terrified that this is going to happen again and would love a "Pregnant after PROM' buddy if anyone's interested!

    Petrified of trying again

Hi, i have been a regular visitor to this site but only just registered. I had my son at 30wks & 2 days and he is now a healthy 2 year old. (I am a little worried about his speech though). I want to have another baby and have read a lot about the 17P shots. I however dont think they are offered in my country (Nigeria) and was wondering what to do. Can i order the drugs through a doctor from here and how can i do that? Do you think i could get the same results if the drugs are administered from here? If i do have to come over to the US which hospital/doctor could anyone recommend? I have so many questions. Please help. I want another baby but i dont want to go what i did previously.

    Re: Petrified of trying again

As far as I know, the 17P shots are only available with a doctors prescription and they have to be made by a special compounding pharmacy that can mix it themselves. I know the pharmacy I used did ship to people but whether or not they would send it to someone outside the USA, I don't know. The pharmacy was called "University Compounding Pharmacy" and the phone number is (248) 267-5002.
I would talk to your OB and see if it is something he/she would be willing to support. Also, ask to be refered to a perinatologist who deals with high risk pregnancies. They would be the one most likely to know how to help you get 17P if they support it's use.

As far as a doctor recommendation - I guess it would depend on where in the USA you were looking! I live near Detroit, Michigan and I think the Ob practice I see is great. My main Ob is about to retire but the other people in the practice are great too. But somehow I don't think Detroit is usually the first place people want to go when they come to the US!

    Good Luck!
    -Jackie
