Enlarged Clitoris

Nairobi - 07:46pm Apr 25, 2006 EST

My daughter was born at 25 wks and has been in the NICU for 12 wks. She has an enlarged clitoris which has refused to get smaller. The doctors are talking of her having ambiguous genitalalia. She is undergoing some chromosome and genetic tests this week. I am so scared I don't know what to expect. Is there anyone with information on what are the possible results to expect. Please share.

Mom to Destiny (37 wks), ^Jaden^ and Cadence (28 wk twins), ^Leland^(17 weeks)

my daughter had that

My daughter Cadence had an enlarged clitoris it's still kinda big but going down. It's from all of your hormones still running through her and now she is producing her own so she has too many going through her body. my daughter is almost 18 months old and has pubic hair! That is weird huh? Well that's another thing some preemies have to deal with, I know it sounds strange, but it will be ok. I know this probably didn't help you very much, but I just wanted you to know that your daughter is not the only one going through this.

I hope all the testing goes well.

For Nairobi

Hello: This is Pam with the education department of the March of Dimes. This must be a stressful time for you. Here are links to two good Web articles from reliable health institutions.

From the National Institutes of Health
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003269.htm

From the Mayo Clinic
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/ambiguous-genitalia/DS00668

I hope this helps. My best wishes to you and your daughter.

Thanks

Thanks for all the information. I still feel confused, but at least I am more informed. A sonogram was done on my daughters pelvic area. They found no signs of male testes and they found a uterus. They could not see the ovaries so they have to carry out another test later. We are still awaiting the chromosome and genetic test.

I thank all those who set up this webpage. It is trully a lifesaver.
