STILL IN THE NICU

Feb 28, 2010 11:16am (EST)

we are still in the NICU. we are hoping to go home last this coming week. it's been a looonnnggg 2 weeks I must tell you that. It's so hard to be with jack and want to be in the nicu and keep up at home and teach class once a week and AHHHH!!!!!

she is doing awesome with her feeds as of about 2 days ago. she is still having brady's with feeds but that's okay. she will most likely come home on a monitorand that's fine with us. she is not gaining weight much (4lbs 12.1 oz) so they will probably start fortifying my brest milk and then increase her volume!

she got to put her first outfit on today. PINK PAISLEY!!!!

thank you to everyone for your comments. they make me SMILE!!!

love linds

UPDATE

Feb 21, 2010 11:13am (EST)

Brooke continues to do well. she is on 2 liters of O2 and at room air. She is done with her IV and is just working on growing and eating. She has taken her last 2 feeds all by mouth with 35ml!!! no desating, dropping her heartrate or anything!!! I suppose she will come down to 1 liter today and she will increase her feeds. I thinks we are going to try to put her to breast this afternoon and see what she does and hopefully it will help my milk supply too!

thank you all for the encouragement and prayers!!! it's been hard with Jack at home and trying to split my time with each and trying not to feel guilty about any of it. my parents have been AMAZING and i will never be able to thank them enough. they have sat with jack at the hospital and taken him many many days!!! they are awesome!

matt goes back to work tomorrow and we will start our new normal. Hopefully brooke will be home with us in about a week or so!! YAy!!

enjoy the pictures

BROOKE ELIZABETH

Feb 16, 2010 06:49pm (EST)

Brooke Elizabeth has made her appearance! She was born on Friday, Feb 12 at 534pm. She weighed 4 lbs 11 oz and 17.5 inches long.

I made it to 33 weeks and 2 days!!!! My labs were trending downward and her cord flow was dwindling so we made the decision to deliver her. my pressures were up as well!

Everything really went smooth and very calming. if a csection can me calm, mine was. it was actually amazing!! my best friend was the NICU nurse on the csection and she made me feel so at ease. brooke came out crying and that was so awesome to hear.

they did have to give her surfactant and put her on cpap. she was on that until today and now on nasal cannula.

anyway, lots of details but i'm exhausted.

enjoy the pictures!!!

THE REIGNS ARE GETTING TIGHTER

Feb 08, 2010 05:17pm (EST)

It's Monday! Which means we had our weekly OB appointment. It didn't really end like I planned today.

The reigns are now tighter.

The appointment started out okay. Well, I guess not really. I got on the scale and I gained 4lbs in 1 week. Nothing was ever said about this because in general I haven't gained that much so we will let this part slide.

Then my blood pressure was taken. It was 122/92. Not terrible but that bottome number isn't pretty. The nurse asked me if I had any questions or concerns. I told her about how I was itching all over all the time with no rash or bumps.

Then it was time to see Dr. High Risk. He took a peek at Brooke. She looks awesome. She is a little over 5lbs and her cord flow is wonderful and she is doing her practice breathing like a champ. I asked if she had any hair and he looked and she doesn't really have much. Surprising since I have so much heartburn huh?!?! Anyway.....he then asked me about my itching and I told him and he said I probably have the start of cholestasis. He called me in some Vistaril to the pharmacy and I was going to be gone.

Then I asked if he was okay with my bp and he said yeah it's okay for now. I'll see you Monday again. Then Matt asked why they didn't check my urine this time or last and he told me to go "tinkle" in the bathroom and he'd check it before we left. So I proceeded and it was +1 protein. Then he stopped us in the hall and said he wanted to see me before the end of the week. I started crying, thinking he meant I was going to have the baby this weekend. He said he just wants to pull the reigns tighter (start seeing me every 4 days) since my blood pressure is creeping up, protein is showing up in urine and the cholestatis is appeared. He would like to get 2 more weeks out of me. (I'm 33 weeks now).

So, needless to say I'm a little bummed out tonight. I know I am VERY lucky to have made it thus far and that I have a 5 pounder in my belly but I DO NOT WANT TO BE IN THE NICU for ANY reason whatsoever. I don't even want to be in there for jaundice. NOTHING!!!! I don't want to go. I want to kick and scream!!!!

I know that Dr. High Risk is doing what needs to be done. He said that he should start pulling the reigns anyway regardless of the stuff that came up today because "i'll be damned if we got you this far and something happened" and he is right. And I trust him with everything I have. I know that he is NOT going to deliver Brooke early for no reason just because he is scared. I know that he isn't going to keep her cooking when she should be delivered. I knew going into this all that at some point we would be gambling on cooking or delivering and it would come down to calling "game over"...........

but I don't have to like it!!!!!!!!

6 WEEKS FROM TODAY

Jan 26, 2010 04:38pm (EST)

6 weeks from today our baby girl should be making her appearance into this world. I can't even tell you how ecstatic I am. I am goign to start counting down the days (42) and maybe even the hours (about 1,010 hours)!!! HAH!!!

Yesterday's doctors appointment went very well
  • no weight gain for me (plus)
  • blood pressure 120/73 (plus)
  • we watched take several breaths (plus)
  • she weighs a little bit over 4 lbs (plus)
  • only trace protein in my urine compared to +1 last time (plus)
  • ankles are swelling (ehhhh?!??)
  • brooke's head is down...way down low....watch for pressure (ehhhhh????)

so all in all ....awesome!!! i asked him when he was going to let me "schedule" my csection and he said if I make it to the end of Feb then I can have whatever I want and he will do it anytime at the beginning of March!!!

Steriod shots maybe next week...but we will see!!!

    30 WEEKS?!?!!? 30 WEEKS!!!!!!

    Jan 19, 2010 04:30pm (EST)

HOLY COW!!!! We made it to 30 weeks!!! I can't hardly believe it. We have had so many "goals" in this pregnancy it's crazy. First it was 12 weeks (after having a miscarriage early 2009). Then it was 24 weeks (since that's when I had Jack). Then it was 28 weeks (because that's what Jack's pulm said was his goal) and now it's 35 weeks....andthen 37 and then she will be here!!!!

    I really can't believe it.

We had our scheduled appointment today. My blood pressure was AMAZING (108/83)!!!! Brooke checked out awesome! She is measuring 31 weeks which puts her at about 4 lbs. 4POUNDS!!!! That's 4 Jack's put together!!!!!! We even got to see her practice breathing which was pretty cool.

I was supposed to get steriods today but Dr. High Risk decided against it because he was positivve I wouldn't be delivering in 2 weeks! (good sign). He also thought it was a great sign that we saw her practice breathing. He said that a sick baby wouldn't know how to do that yet. He said 2 more lbs and he will be happy and she will go to the nursery and we'd have a healthy baby girl!!!

GO THE NURSERY!!! GO HOME WITH US!!!! I can't even imagine what that will feel like.

We are getting so excited I can't hardly stand it!!!!

    keep on cookin' Brooke!!!!!

    29 WEEKS

    Jan 11, 2010 05:46pm (EST)

Today marks another dr's appointment. I was a little anxious today because quite honestly, ive been miserable. throbbing pain "down there" and it really just sucks to walk. I chalked it up to a growing baby. BP has been good though!!!

I got to see the midwife before I saw Dr High Risk so I vented to her about the pain. She chalked it up to a growing baby. then were were joking around about how i'm 5 weeks past my due date...hahah and then she decided that dr. high risk should check me. EEEK!!! not my favorite thing at all. So he checked me, i'm fine! no dilation! he said he'd just move her head back up!!! hahaha. my husband really thought he did. NOPE!!! it still hurts!!!

anyway.....she is 3lbs and next week is steriod shot time. He still talks 35 weeks....even though MY goal is 27 (march 9th to be exact). I just don't think that he knows how to deliver a full term baby...he doesn't get to do it very often!!! LOL. also i had +1 protein in my urine but he didn't seem too concerned about that either........

    so until next monday!!!!!!!!!!!

any helpful hints to subside this "pain" that i'm having?!?!?!

    ALMOST 3 LBS

    Jan 07, 2010 04:34pm (EST)

all is well on the baby home front. i went to the dr. this past monday and he said:

    'big baby"
    "look at those cheeks"
"i think we'll get to march"
"you won't know what to do with a big baby"
    "about 2lbs 10 oz"

CRAZY!!! I have a 3lb baby in my belly!!! That's so fun!! although I have been complaining a lot and I have been achey and just feel fat and bloated and big and large and ugggghhh!!!

But i wouldn't give it up for the world!! i will start counting down the days soon though.

I think I am going to ask to schedule my c-section on monday when I go back. I think having "the date" in my mind and having it schedule will help my optimism of making it that far.....yes? no?? who knows?!?!

want to aim for march 9......that will be 37 weeks (have to because of a classical uterine insicion) and then I will be recouped enough for matt to take me to dinner at least for my 30th bday on the 15th....right?!?!?! hahaha

    that's all for now!!!

thank you everyone for all the encouragement. It means a lot to me!!! love you all
