HYPOSPADIAGavin's Mother - 11:45am Aug 18, 2006 ESTHello,
My son has hypospadia and is going to be having surgery soon within the next month. Does anyone know any info on this birth defect and has a child who has had the surgery? If so, please talk to me. I am very nervous and scared about the procedure and aftermath.
At what age should the child have surgery?
Thanks

second hypospadia surgery
My son turned 4 and he had his first hypospadia surgery year 2006. Last 2009, he had UTI and recurrent till January. The urologist found out he had developed a fistula. Now he had undergone a surgery 3/5/2010. We were admitted in the hospital because he had an unusual swelling in the surgery site. We spent 7 days in the hospital. Now he is here at home recovering. My main problem right now is that whenever he pees he cries like crazy as in excruciating pain..he is peeing but cries a lot..after that everything is normal again, he will play. But if he pees again, he will again cry. I tried giving him, pyridium, even Lortab and lidocaine for pain but it seems to be not working. Please let me know if any of you had experience this and if yes, how long typically the pain will subside. His next appointment is April 12, 2010. I would like to know if this pain is just part of the healing process.

Awwww.... poor little guy. I wish I could say I had some experience with this and be able to give you some advice, but I don't. Hopefully one of these other folks will be able to answer your question. Take Care,
Jackie

Updates of my son, he is doing fine so far. The only problem right now he developed a recurrent fistula AGAIN!!!! When I did my research it is urethrocutaneous fistula, a complication after hypospadia repair. Anyway, the doctor recommended another surgery but my husband and I decided to wait and see for a while because we do not want him to undergo this painful situation again. Any advise?Anyone had the same problem. If ever we decided to have the surgery, it will be his 3rd.
