On March9, 2006, the devastating news hit these young parents. Rob and Taylor had the news confirmed that she was twelve weeks pregnant with their second child. Simultaneously they were told that their baby, now safely growing in his mommy’s womb, was summarily given a zero per cent chance for life outside the womb.
Over the months that followed his parents were told many things, but by far the worst was that doctors expected this Little One to be born without lungs.
Thousands of parents have their hopes over finding they are expecting a child quickly dashed when they hear the news that they fall into that group designated, “high risk pregnancy.” This designation can occur for any number of reasons.
Low amniotic fluid or oligohydramnios is only one of the reasons. But it is certainly one of the most potentially lethal situations for the mother and baby. And it is much more serious and the risk is substantially higher when oligohydramnios is detected early in the pregnancy.
Amniotic fluid is essential for lung development. When there is no fluid there is no hope for lung development. From March until July Taylor and Rob never received news that there was any measurable fluid. They knew what that meant for their precious Little One. They also knew that the risk of infection to Taylor was extremely high and equally as life threatening.
Yet they steadfastly refused to give in to doctors who had no hope and who urged them to end the pregnancy.
