progesterone suppositories
carly sue - 06:53am Oct 1, 2007 ESTI am so glad i found this site. I had my first daughter almost 7 years ago. I had no problem getting pregnant and other than severe morning sickness a very uneventful pregnancy. when she was 1 we conceived again right away and i lost that baby in a miscarriage at about 12 weeks. I got pregnant again right away and lost that baby at about 12 weeks. it was a perfect little baby (i had several ultrasounds because of previous miscarriage.) a few months later i got pregnant again. i lost this baby also about a week after i found out i was pregnant. my dr did a ton of tests everything was normal. she suggested if i got pregnant again that i take prog. supp. she said that she couldn't tell me that there was "proof" that they could help me to sustain a pregnancy but that they certainly wouldn't hurt anything. i did get pregnant, i did use the suppositories and about 16 weeks into pregnancy i started having bad cramps and bleeding. ultrasound showed "an extra lobe" on placenta that was full of blood and that was what was causing bleeding. bleeding subsided after a couple of months. i had a healthy baby boy. when he was 10 months old we got pregnant again and the same thing happened at about 12 weeks. the same thing showed on ultrasound. i had a heathy baby boy. he is now 2 and i am pregnant again. (5 weeks and i just started progesterone last night.) i don't know that prog. has anything to do with being able to carry my babies to term, but i don't want to take a chance. now i am afraid that the prog. supp. might be cause the abnormality in the placenta that causes the bleeding and the cramping. though my dr told me it did not. has anyone else had this problem or an experience similar to this?

Hi there - my situation is different from yours - but I can tell you I've been on Progesterone suppositories for about 3 months now - when my cervix started "softening" and because of my previous preterm delivery. It has helped keep my cervix from dilating - even with tons of contractions. I had a blood clot in my uterus previous to taking the Progesterone - which has neither "abosorbed" or gotten bigger after being on the drug (I've had lots of u/s throughout the pregnancy). There have not been any further bleeding or placenta complications since being on the Progesterone. Hope that helps a little! Katie
