discharge after cerclage

ladyebby1 - 08:07am Nov 2, 2007 EST

can anyone tell me what their discharge looked like after having a cerclage put in please? I know they said to expect some spotting for a couple days...and also i may have mucous discharge..but im having both at the same time...and its looks pretty scary...kind of reminds me of a mucous plug..i did call the dr and they said it is normal as the procedure was just done yesterday....they said to come in if there is a constant trickle or gushing...the dischArge isnt a whole lot...its mainly when i wiped..once today when i wiped there appeared to be a lot to me...but then after more bathroom trips, its not that much anymore....i hvn had any bright red blood or anything..

Two angel babies, Madison and Avery, and one full termer (38.6 weeks), Lukas

Mine wasn't all that long ago, but I honestly don't really remember. I had some spotting and I think some discharge, but nothing major. I think yours sounds normal since it is only when you wipe---especially if you called your dr and they said this was normal. I would just keep an eye on it for the next few days.

Good luck!

Lorne (23 wk), Isaac (26 wk) and Sullivan (26 wk) - my four-year miracles!!

I know I had some discharge and some of it was "blood stained" (brownish) because of the "trauma" to my cervix. I am so glad that you thought to call your doctor - that's what they are there for! If it changes or you're still concerned - call back! That's why doctors get the big bucks.

Hoping you have a long, uneventful rest of your pregnancy.

take care,
Kara

My nurse is awesome too! she works alongide my high risk doctor..by the way who is on the Americas best dr list....And she informed that the mucousy bloody stuff i was seeing is from all the guck that they used yesterday..and it appears bloody because I am spotting right now...She reminded me that it is perfectly normal to have pain down there b/c i did just have a surgery and they did lots of tugging down there...THanks guys for your input....they will see me in there next wednesday morning...

Had my cerlcage put in at 13 weeks and will be 32 weeks on Monday. I had a lot of discharge in the two days following the procedure and was very nervous as well. I was told it was normal and that it would clear up in a few days which it did. Actually I did not have much discharge there after and it just recently increased afer 28 weeks.

Take Care,
Leslie

Life after cerclage

I had my cerclage at 15 weeks just 4 days ago. The doctor hasn't told me yet what my activites can be from here on out. She is way too nonchalant and I'm worried she'll tell me that I can do whatever. She didn't even want me to get a cerclage. My specialist made her do it. And did anyone get an antibiotic after your cerclage? I didn't. I asked and she said I didn't need any. I just feel like I don't know what is going on and what I can and can't do.

HI MICHELLEDEANN...this is my original post and i had my cerclage done on novemeber 1...i was originally asking about the discharge..that soon went away that Fri..I know that I am one of those worrisome people and with my history I have every right to be...So right after the discharge and spotting stopped, I soon began to think that i was having contractions...So of course I tried to lay there and feel for them for about an hour at a time...Nothing..anyways just having surgery and everything it is not uncommon to have some discomfort as far as cramping and some pain...the nurse told me that b/c of the surgery some kind of something is produced that makes the contractions..so thats the reason for the Indocin to help minimize them.....As far as the antibiotic, i wsnt sent home with one either..reason being they started me on an antibiotic through my IV prior to surgery..Honey If you feel like you dont really know whats going on..I would suggest asking the nurse or the Dr...This is certainly yours and your babys health, and you have every right to know whats going on..I will find out exactly what I am allowed to do when I go back for my follow up appt on Wednesday..So i imagine thats when you will find out as well...If you are not comfortable with your Dr, have you considered maybe switching to one different? I have done so...I feel like if this is going to be the person taking care of me and looking out for the best interest of my baby, then I need to be able to talk to them and feel comfortable doing so...I am here if you need me...Maybe we can keep track of each other...I am just 17 weeks today, so we are just around the same gestational age..I hope everything works out for you...Like i said Im here if you need me...

Cerclage 3 Days Ago

Hi! I am new to this site, but was interested in your posts. I had a cerclage 3 days ago. I didn't have cramping, but I did have spotting. Today, when on the toilet, I had a long mucusy discharge that was very light pink. Then no more. I have read that an increase in discharge is common, but the blood should go away. BTW, I had the cerclage because last March I lost my first baby, Michael, at 21 weeks. The doctors suspect I had a weak cervix. . .but I also had an infection. Kind of like the chicken and the egg. . . no one can tell what came first. I am 15 weeks pregnant now, and scared to death! I am having a real hard time being happy and public about this pregnancy, and am feeling really guilty about it.

2 Cerclages

I have a cerclage right now and I also had one 7 years ago. I did have spotting and a lot of cramps for like about 3-4 days and the doctor told me it was normal. Well...I guess it was because I felt better after those days. I just want to say that even though you have a cerclage, you have to take it easy. After my cerclage, I started doing everything I was used to do before I got pregnant and right now the only thing holding my cervix close is one stitch and right now I'm in complete bed rest and hoping to be able to hold my baby a little bit longer. Right now I'm 28 weeks. Good luck to all of you..

I have had a lot of discharge with my cerclage. Up until a few days ago it ws whit and I woudl have to wipe twice somethines to get it all but then when I wiped it was a brownish tone. I called the doc and went in and got a cervical scan and was told that my cervix had to much pressure and the sticth was irratated and was pu on bed rest. You can never be too sure so I would call the doc at anythign unusual

    Help-Just had a Cerclage

I am new to this site. I just had a cerclage put this past Wed. I've had two 2nd trimester miscarriages and my doctor and specialists felt a cerclage with progesterone shots was the way to go. I've had some discharge, but not a lot and it's dark and liquidy. She said this was normal. Anyway, I really don't want my heart broken again, so any success stories on this method are appreciated!!!

Mom to 39 weeker (now 8), 29 weeker (now 6), and 39 weeker born 10/30/08

Welcome to this site! I too, have had a cerclage at 13 weeks. And yes I had dark brown and even some pink discharge the first week. MY OB told me that the cerclage suture material is kind of thick like a small shoelace woven throughout my cervix. So it makes sense that a cervix (with lots of bloodflow) would have discharge. My OB is really more concerned about red blood and not the dark brown stuff.

I am also doing the injections. They really seem fine. Good luck to you. There are plenty of cerclage success stories and I encourage you to join the pregnant and fabulous discussion. There are many ladies with cerclages and injections that post there.

    Take care,

    Siri Nishan

Well the discharge has stopped and I start shots on Wednesday. My specialist and doctor are awesome! What a terrific team. I never go more than 2 weeks without seeing one of them.
Thank you all for your replies. Best of luck to you all! This whole baby thing is really such a miracle and blessing. I'm so happy to be making the journey.

Hi i just had a cerclage done on the 18 nov.09 and i am trying to find out is it...

    Re: discharge after cerclage

Some amount of discharge is typical with a cerclage. I know my dr said the cerclage is a bit of an irritant to your cervix so it tends to to react by making more mucus (gross, I know).

My dr said as long as it wasn't bright red (indicating a new bleed) that I shouldn't be concerned.

If you are worried don't hesitate to ask your OB, that is what they are there for!

    Good Luck,
    Jackie

    Re: discharge after cerclage

Having discharge after a cerclage is very normal...it is also very different for each person. If you are worried please call your doctor as only he/she can determine if it is ok for you.

I've had 2 cerclages. The first time I had discharge that was very watery and pink for a few days and the second time I remember it being a bit thicker and more brownish, but both times it only lasted a couple of days.

I wish you the best! Please call your doctor if you are worried or unsure!

    Kristyn
