Our Shining Star - Julie

Braden's Mommy - 08:21pm Jan 24, 2008 EST
Mommy to my Braden (30 wks, 1 lb. 11 oz) & Blake (28 wks, 1 lb. 6 oz.)

Our current Shining Star is Julie (Whosures), author of her blog 'Riley Bug' . Julie had an amazing 2007 fundraising season but the real winners were all the babies and their families who received support due to her tremendous efforts.
This past November, Julie and Riley volunteered alongside students of Indiana University for their Dance Marathon. Julie's heart was racing and leaping for joy as she heard them announce the grand total raised for the year had exceeded ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!
After the college scene, the mother and daughter duo donned hard hats and hit the concrete running to meet up with the construction crew who were building the new NICU tower. Riley had these rough and tumble workmen crumble to their knees as she autographed their hats while her mom shared the story of her early beginning. A $40 million dollar donation was recently received to complete this NICU tower project.
They didn't stop there, it seems Julie was just getting started. She volunteered for a fundraiser at Riley's school and even helped out her local chapter with a virtual'Roll call' in honor of Prematurity Awareness Day on November 14. This 'Roll call' was done through email asking the recipient to recognize a child they loved by adding their name to the roll and forwarding the email to a friend. This approach has endless possibilities for raising awareness on a national level.
Right now, you are probably wondering if Julie ever takes a break. Not for this super Shining Star. Even on Riley’s day off from school they headed to the NICU with blankets for all the tiny new arrivals. To end the month, Julie and Riley did play a little while cheering on the Colts as they teamed up with the MOD to raise money for such a worthy cause.
From the collegiate arena to the construction site, from the schools to the NICU, from her local MOD to the Colts organization, Julie makes her presence known. She opens her heart, encourages others and instills the sense of volunteerism and giving back to her precious daughter. Julie, you surely are our Shining Star. Thank you for all that you do. We are so proud of you.
