havin' a prob

When I'm viewing all Short Stories and try to go to the next page, it takes me to the Share Your Story "home" page.
I can read the stories that are listed on that page.
Blogs pages/links work fine.

    Noted.

It's not just your computer. There is a bug in the "next page" link.

    Calling all bug detectives!

We need some super sleuths to help us track down some of the site's bugs, as we work them out. If you find something that needs to be fixed - missing buttons, unusual things, post them here.

Screen shots (pictures of your screen) would be very helpful!

On a PC: click shift-Print Screen
the Print Screen can often be found above the number pad on the upper right of your keyboard.

    On a Mac:
    Command-shift-3 all at once.

This should create an image file: either .png or .gif. You can post them here or email them to me: dmilder@marchofdimes.com

If you know how to export an image in your photo editing software, you can open the image, go to File> export> choose .gif or .jpg. This will allow you to post the images on Share.

Thanks for your virtual volunteerism. Your help makes this site an inviting place for our new members!

This is not necessarily a technical problem, but a question. I started a blog, how do I find it when...

Re: Technical Problems & Site Issues

    Hi Katie:

There are a couple of ways. First, is to save your blog's URL in your favorites, then you can open directly to it.

Two - Go to the blogroll, and scroll the pages until you find your title. Open it and click "Add Entry".

Three - Click on your name in pink on any post you've made. Under your photo it has a link to your blog.

    Here is your URL: http://www.shareyourstory.org/webx?14@@.ef47e14

You might have given it a vanity name, too. The way to find out is to go to your blog page, then look over to the very left of the screen, below the Who's Online box. below the Related Links box. Under it you should see the little pink RSS feed button. Click it, and you'll be taken to a page with a bunch of code for your RSS feed (don't worry if you don't know what that means, doesn't matter!: ) Midway through, you should see the link or name of your blog. It'll look something like this:
          www.shareyourstory.org/webx/NAMEofYourBlog

    Hope that helps!

    Just an observation

I have noticed that many of the blog that have been acting crazy, like "Annabelle's Stories" are MANY pics embedded in the blog. Is it possible that the Share server simply cannot handle so many pics?

    Free Photo Editing Software

    Elizabeth,

It's some good sleuthing, but some blogs with hardly any photos are experiencing issues, too. The server does appreciate when Share members reduce the size of their photos (about 400 pixels wide or less works best!) or reduce the resolution: 72 ppi for web display works well.

The problem is that many Share members have excellent digital cameras and are uploading huge pictures in 300 ppi. It "hogs the hallway" so to speak, but it wouldn't cause those data problems.

As an aside - if someone is looking for an excellent FREE photo editing program, I recommend Irfanview. You can download it HERE. It is one of the most powerful FREE photo programs available, and it could help Share members crop photos, remove red eye, turn directions, and export to .jpg or .gif (for posting here).

Recently, Share did some spring cleaning behind-the-scenes to reduce the burden on our server. There are still some bugs to work out.

Thanks for your suggestion - all these things help!

I was on the short stories page and the links for the pages numbers, "Next Items" and "Last Items" brought me back to the Share Your Story Home Page. (Share You Story Home Page)

    New, Free Photo editing Program

The question I get asked most on Share is "how can I post photos"?

    1. Make sure you complete your registration by responding to the email from us.

    2. Then, make sure your photo is appropriate for Share: not too big, and a file that ends with .jpg or .gif.

Many Share members have asked me how to make it easier to post photos on Share, and having a program to help change photos is the easiest way to make it easier to Share the pics of those you love.

For those who are looking for a way to fix red eye, crop photos, resize for the web, brighten, fix exposure, change to black and white, etc. Photoshop Express is now FREE and online. It also hosts your photos for you. It is made from the same people who bring you what the pro's use... Adobe Photoshop.

    Banding Together Announcement Issues?

    Hi:

Anyone having issues with the Banding Together Announcements? Everyone I've sent an announcement to hasn't been able to open the ecard that was supposed to be linked into the email, instead you get a page on folic acid. I retested this myself and the same thing happened.

I did not save my announcement addressees or messages - do you think they will be able to resend to everyone with the correct link soon? People keep calling me and I'm having to explain over and over again

    Help!!

Re: Technical Problems & Site Issues

One of my friends forwarded this e-announcement received from MOD to me:

(my name/email here) has sent you a virtual greeting card
    via March of Dimes.

You can get your card at http://www.marchofdimes.com/pnhec/1808_pickup.asp?app_id=35B8A97D-B118-42C2-8FD7 -20092FC25FC8&id=303A29EE-83CD-4681-9700-5C9C3ECC445D

Some mail programs have problems with long URLs like the one above. So, if it's not a clickable link, you can either cut and paste the entire link into your browser or get your card at http://www.marchofdimes.com/pnhec/1808_pickup.asp and use the following claim number: 303A29EE-83CD-4681-9700-5C9C3ECC445D

If you follow either of the above links, they do not lead to an e-announcement at all.

    Thanks for your help!

Re: Technical Problems & Site Issues

Well, it's not a Share issue, but I can help you.

Not sure why your link didn't work. I was able to retrieve your card by going to my retrieve link:
    http://www.marchofdimes.com//pnhec/28699_pickup.asp

    and typing in this code:
    303A29EE-83CD-4681-9700-5C9C3ECC445D

I also tested it by going to www.marchofdimes.com and sending myself an e-card. It worked! Now I'm going to use this one instead of the pay sites.

So I urge you to try again... the process does work.

If anyone else would like to send a FREE e-Card:

    1. Go to www.marchofdimes.com
    2. Click Pregnancy & Newborn Health
    3. On the left sidebar click Toolkit
    4. Scroll all the way down to the bottom, "Send an e-Card"

    Good luck!

    Technical Note:

Some of you may have your subscriptions reset. I apologize for the inconvenience. We have discovered that some people have subscribed to the entire site. The result is data overload every time that user signs on. To combat this, some content areas subcriptions were reset.

Please subscribe to *individual* blogs or discussions that interest you rather than entire sections of the site. You'll find Share Your Story a much faster place to navigate!

    Thank you!

I'm sure I am one of the guilty parties there I know I subscribe to the Get Involved section and lord knows what other 'sections'.
Since you brought it up.....I've been meaning to 'clean' up my subscriptions for quite some time but I can't seem to find an easy way to do this. Do I have to go in to each one and uncheck the box and then click on 'set'. What a painfully slow process this is. I wish there was a way to 'uncheck' all boxes and then go in and re-check the ones you want. Am I dreaming???

One subscription at a time, Karen. that's how I had to undo it too. It's not like an email program where you can check multiple boxes nd delete all at once.

Uncheck the obsolete subscriptions and click set.

I know that I have a really cheapo camera (3.2mp) but why are my pics posting so horribly on Share lately? They used to post much clearer and the past couple of weeks they are very distorted looking. They post ok on other sites. Should I be doing some type of edit before I post?

Not sure why - my pics seem to be okay. I would make a copy just for the web and reduce the size to 400 pixels wide (or tall).

If you'd like to be able to crop, fix red eye, etc. Photoshop Express is FREE and online. You can import your pics there and do all sorts of cool things with them.

I haven't head this from anyone else. We haven't changed anything back stage regarding photos.

    Sorry this wasn't incredibly helpful.
