I'M READY FOR THEM TO COME HOME
|
 |

Mar 28, 2008 06:51am (EST)
I just want my girls to come home.As much as I know they are where they should be right now, in the hospital, I still want them home.
Luckily they are in a room in the NICU that is a bit more comfortable than most, but still, it's in the hospital, and you have to walk by such misery and sadness to get to them.My wife and I have gone everyday for a month now.My wife go's twice a day, for about 3 hours, so she can change and feed the girls. She loves it!I've never known a better feeling than holding or bottling your baby/babies.
They still need to be tube fed for some feedings, but are slowly starting to take more by bottle and breast. They were also weighed a couple days ago, and Odessa weighs 3 pounds 11 ounces, and Isabella weighs 3 pounds 7 ounces. They have both almost gained a full pound since birth.I am so proud of them, and love them so much.

GROWING UP SO FAST

Mar 26, 2008 07:06am (EST)
It seems like I notice changes in the girls every day I visit. They look a little different, and seem to constantly be learning new things. Both are off iv's now, and have started breast/bottle feeding. As soon as they do all their feedings by bottle/breast, and no longer require a tube for feedings, they can come home. They also took them off the oxygen monitors, as they are doing well, and haven't had any 'desats'.
Today, we get to bath them for the first time.I'm looking forward to that.I love the interaction between myself and the girls, it's so special, and fun. ^_^
Here are a couple pictures of Isabella and Odessa at 3 weeks old.

BEFORE THE TWINS WERE BORN..
|
 |

Mar 17, 2008 07:59am (EST)
I had been updating the twins progress in another section here, but have decided to finally start a blog. Here is all that was written to catch you up:
Feb.19 2008
My wife is now 30 weeks + 5 days pregnant with twin girls. This is her first pregnancy. One girl is just over 2 lbs, the other just under. The lighter of the girls is having trouble with the blood flow from the uterus, and isn't getting the nutrients it needs, and in the last day her sac has dried up.However, she is healthy and doing good otherwise. She is a little kicker, and moves alot.I can't believe how much I love them already!
Needless to say, my wife is a nervous wreck.I give her encouraging words, but it's not enough.
She was given 2 shots of steroids, one yesterday and the other today. The doctors say she will have to have a c-section within the next week or two. They are trying to keep them in until 32 weeks. They said after 32 weeks, the babies are better off outside the womb in this situation.
Feb 24
My wife now has a planned c-section for friday morning, which would bring her to 32 weeks. It could possibly be moved up to thursday, we'll know more tomorrow. It looks like Isabella is in the 2-2 1/2 lbs range, and Odessa is 2 1/2 - 3 lbs. Both move around quite a bit, and are both in the head down position, with Odessa being the lower of the two.Besides being small and premature, there are no other major problems that stand out. Both are doing the fetal breathing movements which is good, and my wife recieved steroids about a week ago.
Feb. 26
The c-section is schedualed for this friday, the 29th of february, at 11 am.I am so nervous, yet excited to see my baby girls.I am praying constantly that these girls will do well, and strive in life.
Feb 26
We have met so many wonderful people at the hospital. We got a tour of the NICU the other day, and met some nurses and the head doctor of the unit. They are Such nice people. The treatment we have recieved has been incredible, I feel very lucky. As friday draws closer though, I am getting more nervous.I have faith my girls will be ok, but the thought of it all is kind of scary. My wife (Erin) has been doing great, she's such a strong, loving woman, a born mommy.During an ultrasound today, my wife and the nurse felt a kick in the upper stomach/ribs region, and when the nurse fixed the picture to that spot, we saw Isabella pushing with her hands onto my wifes stomach, trying to move positions. It was very cute.We then got to see the outlines of their heads and faces, they are so adorable.
The delivery is schedualed for 11 am friday. Please continue to keep my girls in your thoughts and prayers.Thank you.

ok...tomorrow (friday) is the big day.I am so nervous, yet excited and anxious. My wife is doing surprisingly well. All we can do now if put faith in the medical team, and a higher spirit.
March 2
My wife gave birth by c-section friday evening.Odessa was born at 5:51 pm weighing 3lbs, and Isabella was born at 5:52 weighing 2 lbs 11 ounces. They are the most beautiful girls I have ever seen.I will post some pictures soon.
Both were on a c-pap, with room air going into their nostrils to help them breath.Isabella was taken of cpap yesterday, and is doing great. They tried taking Odessa off too, but she had some problems, so they put her back on it.It's so hard to see your baby struggle, but they are doing great considering their prematurity and size.My wife is doing good too, although she is sore from the c-section, and worried about the girls..
It's amazing that the girl the doctors thought would have problems is doing even better than her sister. They are such strong, fiesty girls.Odessa starting crying yesterday, and actually pushed herself up, and lifted her head!I can't believe their strengh.I also finally got to hold Isabella yesterday, and it was such a magical moment, it's hard to describe, but it was a moment full of love.
