Pregnant again....Devon51 - 08:40pm Mar 20, 2008 ESTHi everyone, just wanted to share with you all that I'm pregnant again. I shared my story after I lost my daughter at 23 weeks. We got pregnant farely quickly and we reach the 24 week mark tomorrow. Its been hard to speak that outloud, thinking I might jinks this pregnancy by actually admitting it...... but I'm feeling more and more hopeful everyday! We've been closely monitored; ultrasounds every two weeks to check baby and my cervix, and so far so good. We recently found out were having a baby boy, and are thrilled. Though there has been many emotions during this pregnancy; we've definitely continued to grieve our baby girl Libby and recently have started to really embrace this new life that is growing inside of us. It's been rough these past few weeks, getting past the point at which we delivered last time, but like I said, were getting more hopeful everyday. Our baby boy will be named Lyrik Maddon; I'm working at calling him by his name instead of baby. I was only able to call Libby "Libby" for a week and I think I fear that as soon as I name this little one and actually identify him by his name that I'm gonna lose him....I guess its my own fear that comes with bonding with him. I really wanted to share the news......this cite has been wonderful. Eventhough I tend to say silent, I am always reading; reading the stories of heartbreak and stories of hope, I'm always sending my positive thoughts. Devon

Congrats on making this far already!
Congratulations on your pregnancy and making it past the first pregnancy dates. I am about 10 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child after my 25 weeker. I am pretty nervous and I know I will find it hard to get to the 25 week mark. I did not lose my son but I still grieved the loss of the pregnancy and the fact that I had to spend 88 days in the NICU with my son. So I will be happy to make it past that 25 week point. I wish you the best for a healthy little boy. Tell Lyrik that there are lots of preemies out there rooting him on to the very end of the pregnancy!

Thank You!!!
Thank you everyone for your encouragment and congrats. Its still a ways from being over, but were celebrating each milestone....first it was 3 months, then 24 weeks and the next one will be 28 weeks, as my dr. and specialist tell me its at this point that babies survival is very promising.
Lina, congrats on your pregnancy and your little Ethan. The 25 week mark will be tough, but along with all those emotions is a sense of relief....hang in there and stay strong. I'll be sending you lots of positive, "full term" energy:).
I will keep you guys update!!
Once again thank you......
We'll chat soon,
Devon

Keep hope!
Congrats on making it to this point. As hard as it is stay positive and take it one week at a time.
I am pregnant again after having a 31 weeker. I am 31 weeks today and so far so good. My cervix has started to funnel and as of my dr's appt last Wednesday I was dilating as well but the doctor tells me he is assured we have been and are doing everything right. I am just taking it one week at a time hoping to make it far enough to not have to spend any time in the NICU.
Are you on 17p shots?
Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks....and congrats!!
Hey......well congrats on your milestone. One week at a time is definitely my train of thought also. I am celebrating every week....and embracing this new experience. I never got to feel Libby as active as Lyrik, so its been so wonderful watching my belly jump around.
Since I'm from Canada, the 17p shot was not readily available. My specialist would have definitely researched it out for us, but ultimately we would have had to travel to get it. We were pretty much convinced we were going to do it and then I spoke with the Dr. that delivered Libby (she works in Bellingham, WA). Her thoughts/knowledge helped us to decide against it. Strictly personal....however with every week approaching, I am constantly wondering if we made the right decision. I have heard very good things about it. Are you doing the shot??? How is it??? And did you do it last pregnancy???

I agree about the activity you feel. This little girl is definitely more active or at least I feel her more actve than Lincoln was. It's comfortable yet amazing at the same time.
I am doing the shot. I have been since 18 weeks. My mom gives them to me weekly. It's not bad at all really. No real pain. The only thing is your "cheeks" might itch every now and then and on occasion you may have some lumps at the injection site. I didn't do it with my last because up to the point I went into labor I had no signs or indications of any complications. I ended up having an infection but we aren't sure if I have an IC and that's what caused the infection or if the infection caused the labor.
Are you on bed rest?

shortening cervix
Hey.....wanted to share some stressful news. I went to my ultrasound today (28 weeks) and found out my cervix has went from 3.6 to 1.4 in two weeks. I then had a non stress test (no labour:)) and my ob gave me one of two steriod shots. So Iam now on bedrest.....so yeah, Iam alittle worried and just hoping that the little one stays content in there as long as possible.
Any feedback or success stories would help.....
I'm feeling scared but my ob has assured me that 28 weeks is a very positive point to be at and Lyrik has great potential even if my cervix decides its time.
Thx..
Love Devon

Re: shortening cervix
I'm sorry for the drop in your cervical length. Mine dropped two full points in a week too, but I was carrying triplets.
It was probably good to get the steroid shot, I'm guessing they'll give the other one too. Bed rest is is a good thing! I hope that helps. If it comes to the point of needing to go into the hospital for the remainder of your pregnancy, do not worry....you'll be in great hands, and often mag sulfate (IV drip) can slow down labor.
In reference to your 28 week question, yes....medicine usually refers to week 28 as a turning point in the possible outcome of a baby, especially preemies. 23-27 weeks are a very gray area. However, it would be great to see you get as far along as possible. Best wishes on another few months of pregnancy!

thx for your reply.......
I just got the second shot, so I'm happy about that!I'm hoping bedrest will work wonders; its rough lying around anticipating labour....just trying to think positive. He did say bedrest in the hospital could happen; but for now do my best to stay off my feet, lying down. Did you have the mag drip??If so, how was it? I asked him about that, but I'm from Canada and he said that the stats are not significant enough to give it here......so I don't know if that will be an option. He also said it can be very hard on the mothers system, so without significant results that it works, they don't give it. I've heard many success stories from it....who knows. The 17p shot was another option that was very difficult to get in Canada...I find this strange??
Anyways..happy to have the round of shots in me and hopefully working wonders. Thanks for all the kind words and encouragment. I will keep you guys updated.

Re: thx for your reply.......
Yes, I did have mag sulfate for about a week in the hospital. The bonus is that it relaxes your uterus...so it does not contract as much. It also relaxes most of your body, so if feels a little weird, kind of like you are tired, but yet awake. It was really the only option left for me, and thankfully it held Baby A off for 4 days, and Babies B and C off for 6.....every day counts!
Best of luck!
