Your experience with ROP

Reema - 08:58pm Aug 12, 2008 EST

My name is Reema. I had lost my first pregnancy at 19 weeks in feb 2007. They could not find the cause of the loss. However, an incompetent cervix was suspected. I got pregnant again somewhere around middle of october 2007. I was seeing my obg doc and a high risk pregnacy doc. At around 15 weeks my cervix started to funnel. An emergency vaginal cerclage was performed the same day. However, at 19-20 i was completely funnelled upto the stitch. At this point I was put in the hospital at complete bedrest. They tried to put another cerclage. But after much discussion it was decided that the best thing to do was to do nothing. I seriuosly considered terminating the pregnancy, but I couldn't. I was on complete bed rest for 3 weeks until my water broke one morning while i was sleepin. About a week after that I started bleeding and the cerclage had to come out. About a week after that I started having contractions and I was put on magnesium. It killed my contractions. My bleeding got worse. The next afternoon I was still not feeling any contractions. at this point the doc checked cuz i was bleeding so heavily. she told me that I was completely dilated. The baby's head was down. I was immediately rushed to the labor room. I had hard time pushing the baby out after being on magnesium for so long. After about half an of pushing my little girl anna was born weighing 1lb and 14oz and 13 inches long.

She stayed in the hospital for 3 months. She came home 3 weeks ago weighing 7lbs and 6oz. She was on ventilator for 3 hours and then on cpap for 3 weeks. She had sepsis, jaundice, suspect of nec. she desatted a lot. She got rop in both her eyes. Stage 2, zone 2 in one eye and stage 2 zone 3 in the other. But then it changed to zone 3, stage 3 in both the eyes. The doctor thinks that it is regessing. But she would probably need glasses because it is n stage 3. Also she might have crossed eyes. Once the disease regresses she will be seen back in 6 months and then every year until she is 18. I don't know how would it go after that. I am extremely nervous about her rop. Do any of you have experience with it?
