TAC (after failed cerclage) - TTC

mom2chance - 03:05pm Oct 11, 2008 EST

My son, Chance, went on to have heaven as held him and said goodbye 13 days ago due to a failed cerclage. About one month prior to his birth, I had my first sonogram and was told by the technician that I had a short cervix (it measured at 3.9 cm). The incompentent cervix diagnosis given later that morning by a Perinatologist, who also noted that I was funnelling when a little pressure was applied. So at 18 weeks my OB gave me a cerclage.

I thought I was safe, that is until my follow ultrasound with the Perinatologist. The ultrasound revealed that my baby's sac (membranes) had funneled right to the stitch. I was crushed.

I ended up carrying my baby boy for 23 weeks, after fighting for two days of magnesium in head lower than foot position in order to keep him in my belly. My son fought for his life in the NICU for 22 hours 43 minutes before I got to hold him until he ascended to heaven. My cerclage failed me and my first born son, I'm so hurt.

I'm reseraching information and doctors in my area (Washington DC, Northern VA) to find the best doctor for a transabdominal cerclage, and at a loss. I do not want to watch another child of mine suffer, nor do I want to experience the pain of loosing another innocent baby. Ladies, are you going through your health insurance to have your TAC procedure? Is it consider preventative medical procedure and covered by your health insurance?

I have decided to ditch my current OB and go with a well known high risk OB, who's interest lie with women who experienced miscarriages and neonatal loss. My appointment is for preconception counseling, and to ensure that I have a game plan for my next pregnancy. So please provide some tips, as I definately want a TAC.

I am so sorry for the loss of your son. I lost my only daughter Cadence to a failed cerclage (actually I had 2 surgeries). I was also on bedrest until 23 weeks. I too had the ordeal with the magnesium to no avail. And I hate that you or any of had to go thru this.
I am actually a candidate for the TAC and I am in Baltimore. I will have the procedure done in NJ and now I cannot remember the doctors name. There is also someone at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore that I heard who does the laproscopic TAC. But please check out this website www.abbyloopers.com. They have tons of info and support. It was started by a woman who also loss a child to the transvaginal cerclage. The doctor whose name I forgot is available via e-mail.
I asked about insurance and he replied that it is typically not a problem and he also has helped women with writing letters to the insurance company to get them to cover it.
I hope this seems helpful.
Again I am so sorry for your loss. It is an unfathomable pain we have to go thru. I just hope you can find the answers and comfort that you need as your grieve. Please KIT

2 failed sutures and 1 in at the mo

im new to the forum so hi everyone... ive had 2 previous TVC both at 17 weeks and both failed at 21 weeks... the first pregnancy was lucky and i managed to carry my daughter at 5cms dilated for a further 8 weeks!! but sadly with my son my waters went and i gave birth to him shortly after. am preg again and was due to have a TAC, but the dr wanted to try and do it vaginally!!!! he got a gyny dr involved who pushe my bladder and bowl etc out of the way while he basically placed this really high suture in... now reading what you have all written about the TAC sutures im of the understanding that its permenent yet my dr assures me its the same suture as a TAC (hook needle that stitched right across internally) but he's just done it a less invasive way!! and he said so he can removed it quickly if need be... has anyone else had this done???

the problem i have isnt just a incomp cervixs its also a womb that just basically contracts from 17 weeks the meds that they give me ease the contractions but there still there

at 17 weeks in my last pregnacy my cervixs were 8mm and in my first 2cm dilated
so hopefully this time with this other stitch in it'll be so much better )

im now 16 weeks and 2 days and my cervixs were 3.6cm's after the suture with no funneling so fingers crossed this time. i actually feel really really healthy, although if i walk more than a couple of hundred meters i get really dull pains down below. ive had no morning sickness and pray to god that i dont start contracting in the next 2 weeks as my doctors away i mean fancy him booking a holiday lol (kidding) im from manchester uk so for us we have the national health although alot of people say you get better treatment going private i dont really see the benefit as you still get to see the same doctors and get seen fast if need be. i did double check with him though when i had a scan 2 weeks ago and its defo the stitch they would normally put in abdominally but he managed it vaginally... so its maybe something to watch out for and to ask about!!

I do not want a 3rd failed V.cerclage...I really want to know if you (mom2chance) have had the Trans Abdominal Cerclage and if you have given birth to a healthy baby ?
Any info that you can share would be of great help to me. I have had my 3rd loss juss 10 days ago and am looking for hope wherever i can get!!

Really awaiting your response. Good Luck!!!
