PostPartum Depression and NICU
Kristen_and_Aleksey - 06:50pm Dec 25, 2008 ESTI am coping with some serious postpartum depression along side with having Aleksey in the NICU at Magee woman's hospital. It's been a rough ride, Aleksey was a 30 weeker and while he is growing well and strong with only minor set backs, I am not doing so well. My husband while caring and supportive really doesn't understand how hard this is for me right now, especially with all sorts of weird thoughts running through my head.
I have an appointment with a counselor, which for me was hard to make since I am also a PSY.D myself. I -know- the theory behind what I am experiencing, and I've delt with clients who are experiencing it or worse, but I feel like somehow I am weak for requiring a visit to a councilor myself. Has anyone here ever been through PPD and how did you cope with life during it?

I commend you for making an appointment to speak with a counselor, that is a great first step. It takes a lot of courage to do this, I hope the session goes well for you.

Kristen-
I can totally relate to what you are going through. I've dealt with PPD and just the though of what I went through sends chills throughout my body. Its such a horrible thing to face day to day and I am praying that you find the strength to get through all of this. I will also keep Aleksey in my prayers and know that we are all here for you.
Hugs,
Maria
