22 week baby in NICU

MadalynHayden - 08:17am Jan 29, 2009 EST

Hello my name is Meredith and my daughter is Madalyn. She was born at 22 weeks and we are now in the NICU. She is being so strong and they started her on round 1 of the medicine for the PDA. They also are putting in the PICC line and starting her on blood because she is a little low. I'm scared to death, but I know it is in God hands. If anyone has any advice please share, I have never been in anything like this she weighed 1 lb 2 1/2 oz. I had a cerclage but it didn't hold. They started her on about 1 cc of milk to see how her belly can handle it so far so goog she is peeing and having a bowl movements. I get nerves when I go back to see her and her stats go up and down so much but the nurses tell me to expect that because she is so small but I can;t get use to it all I want to do is cry when it does that. I feel helpless! I'm the mother and I can fix everything but I have no control of this. Please keep us in your paryers and I will do the same. God Bless Mhayden3@roadrunner.com

Welcome to Share Merideth, and congratulations on the birth of Madalyn!! I know it's tough to watch those little tiny ones with all the changes that those monitors do, but just stay strong for her and let her know that you're there. I hope she continues to do well and I also hope to hear more and more updates on this amazing little girl.

Welcome. My sweet babies were born at 25weeks on 12/22/08. They are doing well and progressing as to be expected. We have had some set backs with our son but he has overcome them and continues to thrive. Hang in there and know that is a rollercoaster ride for sure. Email me if you need someone to chat with. lpk291@yahoo.com

Mommy to Chris (38.4 weeks) now 3! and ^Luis Fernando^ (22 weeks)

Welcome to Share!

I'm keeping your sweet little girl in my prayers and I hope she continues to do well. Its normal to feel scared and feel bad when you see your little one go through so much. Luckily, she has a great mother that has found Share to help her through the NICU journey. Welcome.

Meredith- Welcome to Share, sweetheart. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter Madalyn. I know that any of this is not at all how you imagined for it to be and I am so sorry for that. It sounds as if she is fairly stable for being born so young. Meredith, please know that this is going to be a long and hard journey and you will have all of us. I would recommend that you begin a blog about your daughter and her progress. Like I said, the rollercoaster is very emotional and it may help to be able to blog about your fears, frustrations, and concerns and get other moms and dads input. Please keep us posted one way or another (either by blog or on here). I will be thinking of you guys until I hear from you. Please take care.

Love, Kelly

How is your little one? I delivered my little peanut on January 21 at 21 weeks but she didn't make it. The hospital staff didn't even try to save her. She passed in my arms one hour after birth. After reading your story I feel like you baby must have been born around the time of my little one and would love to hear how she is doing. Please update if you have time!!! Thanks, Colleen..

23 weeker

Im so happy that your little one is a fighter. My little guy was born at 23 weeks on March 10,2009 and weighed 1lb 4oz. He was also a fighter but unfortunately he suffered a IV brain hemmorrage and passed away after 11 days. Try to stay as strong as you can and let us know how shes doing!

Re: 23 weeker

I'm so sorry that your son passed away. I hope that you continue to talk with other moms here on Share, it helped me a lot when my daughter first passed away. I am now fully addicted to Share, I have had so much healing by blogging and talking with other moms that know what I've been through. Again, I'm so sorry your little Ethan didn't make it, I'm thinking of you.

hi Madalyn

I am new here & searching my way around. I see your post was in January & don't see any updates...so please forgive me if I've missed something.
I was wondering how your daughter is.
My daughter was born @ 23wks&2days, I am very familiar with the helpless feeling. We are now on day 38 in the NICU...she is still on the vent but that is her biggest obstacle aside from growing!
My prayers are with you & your family!

hii

I had a little gurl in the NICU as well, she was born at 23weeks and 5 days she went through 3 surgeries she lived for 3 months.
Its a rollercoaster in the NICU you just have to be strong and take it day by day.
I have IC so for my future pregnancies i have to have a cerclage in.My prayers are with you<3

"An angel with the book of life wrote down my baby's birth, and whispered when she closed the book,"too beautiful for Earth."

Its such a rollarcoaster!

Hi! I had a baby at 24 weeks who was 1 lb 4 oz 10.5 inches long Its definitely a rollarcoaster. My little man, Aven, spent 85 days in the NICU & was up to 4 lb 5 oz, 15 inches long, before he passed away due to an infection. I hope your story has a happier ending then mine did. He passed away 2 weeks & 1 day ago.

Your daughter sounds strong. Just keep your head up & try to see the good in things in there. I know its hard to be in there, but at least your baby has survived thus far! Good luck in the NICU. She will make it I'm sure

24/25 weekers

Hi Meredith! my water broke on baby A at 24w6d but my girls were technically born at 25 weeks (midnight), but the hospital still considers them 24 weekers. We are home now... I would love to hear how Madalyn is doing. I hope you check in. My girls have been through it all, check my bio for more info.

Danika, I wish you the best. Riley is an amazing place...I know a number of little ones that have been there including my own daughter. She was not a preemie, but was sent to Riley to rule out complications and have testing done. I wish you the best!
