22 week baby in NICU

MadalynHayden - 08:17am Jan 29, 2009 EST

Hello my name is Meredith and my daughter is Madalyn. She was born at 22 weeks and we are now in the NICU. She is being so strong and they started her on round 1 of the medicine for the PDA. They also are putting in the PICC line and starting her on blood because she is a little low. I'm scared to death, but I know it is in God hands. If anyone has any advice please share, I have never been in anything like this she weighed 1 lb 2 1/2 oz. I had a cerclage but it didn't hold. They started her on about 1 cc of milk to see how her belly can handle it so far so goog she is peeing and having a bowl movements. I get nerves when I go back to see her and her stats go up and down so much but the nurses tell me to expect that because she is so small but I can;t get use to it all I want to do is cry when it does that. I feel helpless! I'm the mother and I can fix everything but I have no control of this. Please keep us in your paryers and I will do the same. God Bless Mhayden3@roadrunner.com

hi Madalyn

I am new here & searching my way around. I see your post was in January & don't see any updates...so please forgive me if I've missed something.
I was wondering how your daughter is.
My daughter was born @ 23wks&2days, I am very familiar with the helpless feeling. We are now on day 38 in the NICU...she is still on the vent but that is her biggest obstacle aside from growing!
My prayers are with you & your family!

hii

I had a little gurl in the NICU as well, she was born at 23weeks and 5 days she went through 3 surgeries she lived for 3 months.
Its a rollercoaster in the NICU you just have to be strong and take it day by day.
I have IC so for my future pregnancies i have to have a cerclage in.My prayers are with you<3

"An angel with the book of life wrote down my baby's birth, and whispered when she closed the book,"too beautiful for Earth."

Its such a rollarcoaster!

Hi! I had a baby at 24 weeks who was 1 lb 4 oz 10.5 inches long Its definitely a rollarcoaster. My little man, Aven, spent 85 days in the NICU & was up to 4 lb 5 oz, 15 inches long, before he passed away due to an infection. I hope your story has a happier ending then mine did. He passed away 2 weeks & 1 day ago.

Your daughter sounds strong. Just keep your head up & try to see the good in things in there. I know its hard to be in there, but at least your baby has survived thus far! Good luck in the NICU. She will make it I'm sure

24/25 weekers

Hi Meredith! my water broke on baby A at 24w6d but my girls were technically born at 25 weeks (midnight), but the hospital still considers them 24 weekers. We are home now... I would love to hear how Madalyn is doing. I hope you check in. My girls have been through it all, check my bio for more info.

Danika, I wish you the best. Riley is an amazing place...I know a number of little ones that have been there including my own daughter. She was not a preemie, but was sent to Riley to rule out complications and have testing done. I wish you the best!
