abdominal cerclage??GingerK - 04:48pm Apr 29, 2009 ESTFor those of you who have had an abdominal cerclage, did you have it placed pre-pregnancy or after pregnant? Also, who preformed it (what state)? Also, is there anyone who has failed an abdominal cerclage? I have lost 2 babies due to IC and have had one failed vaginal cerclage. Thanks
Ginger

Ginger-It be a good idea to head over to the Parent to Parent section. There is an entire discussion on cerclages. I wish you the best of luck.

Ive had three m/s in the last two years. I dont have kids yet and my doctor has just suggested either a vaginal or abdominal cerclage after a series of lab tests to find out exactly what may have caused all the three. Its a very difficult time for me especailly because i have not had a child before and this is my time. I keep praying and keeping hope alive.

Hi Ginger,
I won't say this with 100% certainty, but I believe an abdominal cerclage is placed before pregnancy. It's a surgical procedure and it's supposedly permanent so I don't know that they can do it after you have concieved. As I also recall reading, because it's permanent you will have a c-section because the baby can't come out vaginally and the stitch is never removed (unlike a vag cerclage).
To both of you ladies, I'm sorry for your losses and I hope whatever route you take gives you success.
Jackie

Abdominal Cerclage
HI Rama,
You may want to check out the website Abbyloopers.org and join their group on Yahoo. They have a lot of information about abdominal cerclage (the many methods and doctors who specialize in this treatment). There are a lot of success stories on that website too.
Keep hope alive! Wishing you good luck on the journey!
Liz

Hi Ginger,
I have recently had an abdominal cerclage and I had it before I got pregnant on the advice of my doctor. You can have them when you are pregnant, but from what I have heard it is risky and they have to be done before you are 8 weeks.
You also need to do thorough research on the subject of which doctor to choose, the surgery is still quite new and we had trouble finding a doctor who had done an abdominal cerclage before.
The surgery itself is pretty invasive, I was in hospital for 5 days and pleasant it was not. But, it will all be worth it if this works for us. I have had 2 late term (23 wk) miscarriages, and a premature baby and the normal cerclage did not work for me.
I hope this helps, if you want to ask me anything feel free.
Terri
