Our June 2009 Shining Star- Jennifer
Sheriff - 06:55pm Jun 1, 2009 ESTThis month’s Shining Star gave birth to her son seventeen weeks early. His eyes were still fused shut- her baby belly not yet formed. Now, nine years later, Jennifer is reminded daily of the impact the March of Dimes had on her son’s life. She has “paid it forward” by becoming an active member of the MOD. I am proud to announce Jennifer (Lomita Chicken), author of Sethman as this month’s Shining Star.
Born 1lb, 4oz and measuring 12 inches long, Seth’s entry into this world was an uphill battle from day one. Seth, now nine-years-old, he weighs in at 43 pounds and stands tall at 27.5 inches. His mom said in a December blog, “He is more than a miracle- he is an inspiration! I like to think of Seth as a legacy, a leader, an ambassador as his name Seth means.” This amazing little boy has inspired Jennifer to reach out to other parents.
Jennifer’s second child, Shelby, was born at thirty-eight weeks thanks to the help of 17P. She gives thanks to the March of Dimes for its research of the drug. It enabled her little girl to go to term. Shelby is also an inspiration to Jennifer.
Whether it is posting an inspiring poem or participating in the March for Babies, Jennifer leads by example. Sharing her story allows other families to see a preemie’s life during the elementary years. Her blog is honest and from the heart. She expresses the long-term concerns associated with prematurity- oral aversion, sensory issues, and difficulty in school to name a few. She also explains the value she has found in becoming a member of the Share community. Prior to Share, she knew other NICU families, but none of their experiences truly mirrored Seth’s. Share opened the door to a bigger support network, and Jennifer helps others by being an active participant in this unique on-line community.
In appreciation of her hard work and dedication to the mission, Jennifer will receive a specially engraved “Share Your Story” watch courtesy of HourPower watches. If you would like more information on these beautiful watches or would like to order your own, please check out their website HourPower Watches.

Thank you
Thank you to all my wonderful Share friends!
Seth has taught me so much in the last 9 1/2 years, has opened my eyes to so many things that I had never ever dreamed of. I have met so many wonderful friends, parents of preemies, that truly understand the walk that we walk and the challenges that we face. Now when I look at Seth I cry happy greatful tears and instead of feeling so alone and so sad I feel so lucky and blessed.
Thank you my friends, you continue to inspire me and have made such a scary experience into a world of new friends and miracles.
Jenn
