How long did you wait to conceive after a Miscarriage due to preterm labor?

I lost a baby girl at 22 weeks almost six weeks ago. I miss her dearly but I long to be pregnant again and have a child. My doctor said I had an incompetent cervix and was told to wait for two periods before trying to conceive. I just got my first period and I am already so anxious about trying.

How long did everyone else wait and what did your doctors tell you?

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter. I know that feeling of wanted to be pregnant right away. We gave birth to our daughter at 31 weeks. We were told to wait three cycles before trying again.

Given the doctor's suggestion that you have IC, I would encourage you to already begin a conversation with your OB as well as a perinatologist about what preventative measures they will take with your angel's sibling. I know for us, having a plan for our next pregnancy helped us feel a little more confident.

When to try again is really a personal decision with no clear right answer. Physically my doctor said my body would be ready, but emotionally would be a more individual time line.

I too am so sorry to hear of your loss. I also agree 100% with Lauren. I would be sure to consult with a high risk doctor and get a good plan in place for the next time around. I like to think that the docs know best, so maybe it really is best to wait another cycle and then let nature take it's course!

I am so sorry for your losses as well. I did talk with my gyno and I will get the cerclage as well as progesterone shots. So I am thankful that I do have a plan in place for next time. I will continue to try and be patient and put it in the Lord's hands. Thank you both!!

26 weeker with bilateral grade 4 IVH

Battle worn in the trenches.

I now have two beautiful children. I wasn't always sure that could happen. We had trouble with infertility. I have two gene mutations and the anticardiolipin antibody, all three of which makes me prone to clotting, strokes, heart attacks, all things bad that can happen in preg. like intrauterine stroke, preterm labor and fetal death. We had 5 misscarriages, then after being hospitalized 3 times for preterm labor, my son was born at 38 wks by emergeny c-sec due to fetal distress. We waited a yr, then we had 5 more misscarriages before my daughter was born at 26 wks. I am persistent if nothing else.
I would follow the doctors advise about waiting. I know it is hard, but you need to let the uterus heal so it can be a good home for your next baby.

I am sorry for the loss of your little girl. I too lost my son Jacob on May 5, 2008. He was born at 28 weeks (PROM) and passed away four weeks later from a twisted intestine that was not caught by the doctors. My doctor said we could try again after 2 cycles, I became pregnant 2 months later. I was seen by my regular OB and a high risk doctor. I had a normal pregnancy with alot of worrying but I went full term and delivered a beautiful baby girl on March 27, 2009. Getting pregnant so quickly after our loss was the best thing for us. It doesn't make the pain go away but has helped. Good luck you are in my prayers.
