Kaylee Elizabeth

sarahbell23 - 05:08pm Jun 24, 2009 EST

I have been participating in the march of dimes for about 4 years now and I never thought I would have a premature baby. I was 23 weeks and 3 days pregnant on May 14, 2009. I was on my way home when I began to get pains in my stomach I thought it was no big deal. When I arrived home I had alot of bleeding and my mother and father rushed me to the hospital. When I got to the hospital the doctor had told me that I was 3 centimeters dialated. They gave me the steroids to help my daughthers lungs but there wasn't enough time to let it work. I began to go into labor. My daughter was in a breech position and they told me that if I had a natural birth she wouldn't survive. They lifeflighted me to a different hospital an hour away from home. I was scared and I didn't know what to say or do. When I arrived at the hospital I was taken straight to the delivery room. When I got there they told me that I was fully dialated and I had to have an emergency C-section. She was 1 pound 6.5 ounces and 13 inches long. We named her Kaylee Elizabeth. When she was born she had two brain bleeds one was a number 4 and the second was a number 3. Both of her lungs had collapsed and she was fighting for her life. Her lungs got better and the PDA in her heart had to be closed. She had PDA ligation surgery to close the hole in her heart. Because of the brain bleeds she has fluid in her brain. Tomorrow she has to get a reservoir put in to relieve the fluid. Other than that she is gaining weight and is doing great.

Welcome to share. I love the name. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. My little one has Hydrocephalus. He ended up needing a shunt. Hang in there many here know the roller coaster of the NICU.

welcome to Share and congrats on the birth of your precious daughter. I LOVE her name. It sounds like she had a rough start, but is holding her own. It is amazing how strong these little angels are. Please know that we are here for you. We have been through it all. Please let us know how she progresses. God bless,

Elizabeth
