Our July Shining Star--Meghan

LilyGrace'sMom - 09:27am Jul 1, 2009 EST
Thinking of Kyle and sending lots of hugs and prayers

This month’s Shining Star has truly shined with all that she’s doing here on Share and with her local March of Dimes. I’m proud to announce Meghan Sheriff, The Sheriff Twins, as Share’s July Shining Star.

When her boys were born 14 weeks early due to complications of TTTS, she had no idea what lay before her. Her first son, Charlie, was nearly 9 lbs and was born at 40 weeks so this experience was unlike anything they had gone through before. They knew they were in for an uphill battle, but they had no idea just how challenging it would be for their family. From day one, the prognosis for their boys was grim but they never lost hope. They overcame various obstacles, however, sadly, at day twenty-three they said goodbye to their strong fighter, Michael. He fought a long, hard battle and firmly believed he brought his brother safely into this world. They braced themselves for a long battle with Matthew. After 97 long days, they brought our little miracle home.

Meghan truly believes that one must always persevere. She will never forget the past, but she has learned to move forward and embrace her grief to do positive things for her community and those in similar circumstances. She gives back by sitting on several committees here on Share as well as writing the monthly Shining Star. As for her community, she also participated in March for Babies this year; the corporate team that walked in honor of Michael was the highest earning team in Richmond, VA! Meghan also spreads the word about the MOD through a program she started at her hospital called Baby Steps. It has three main functions: NICU Family Support, Antepartum Support and Blessings for Babies (prayer service). The program has about 10 volunteers and has serviced numerous families in the past several months through visits, gifts, talks, activities, prayer, etc. “It is extremely rewarding to know our grassroots efforts have had a huge impact on our hospital.”

“There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Do your research, be your child's advocate and know that there are others in similar situations. You are not alone. You may not be in the same boat as the others you find, but you are all trying to reach the same shore. Reach out to others and ask for help when you need it; no family should have to embrace this experience on their own.” Meghan knows that her boys have taught her the value of life and to cherish each and every day.

Meghan, Share and the March of Dimes appreciates all that you do for us. Thank you for your words of healing, encouragement, and support. We are proud and honor to have you as our Shining Star.

Congratulations Meghan! You are such a great inspiration to all! I remember following your blog when your sons were in the hospital. It brought me to tears when Michael lost his amazing fight with prematurity. He was such a strong little fighter.
The work you have done with the March of Dimes since the birth of your boys has been amazing. You truly are a giver and such a Shining Star! Thank you for being YOU!

Mom to an angel (22 weeker) and a miracle (27 weeker now 4-years-old).

Congratulations!!! I am another who has followed your story from the beginning. I was so heartbroken when I read that Michael had passed away. And overjoyed the day you took Matthew home.

You do so much. I still have difficulty figuring out how you fit it all in! You give hope and support to so many, both here on Share and at home. Keep up the good work.

Hugs,
Mary
