There are quite a few women here on Share who have had a cerclage with funneling and still carried almost full term if not full term.
I had a cerclage and a slight amount of funneling but did not wind up on bedrest until 2 of the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy. I carried to 38.5 weeks and had a healthy baby boy.
So don't freak yourself out too much, there are happy endings out there. I hope that we can add you to that list in a few months!
Good Luck,
Jackie

I have not had any experience with a cerclage, but like Jackie said, there are many mom's on here that have success stories. Good luck!

This is one of those great stories I love to hear! So glad your pregnancy went well (despite the boredom of bedrest)!!!

Bed rest
Hi All,
I am new member to this family. I lost my first baby boy at 18 weeks in december 07 & my second baby girl at 22 weeks in jan 09. Doctors diagnosed that i have cervical incompetence during my second pregnancy, but was late as the cervx was already dilated & baby was already making her way down. Still they did cerclage at around 18 weeks after pushing baby back into uterus & put me on strct bed rest . still i could'nt make it to term.I started having contractions & was rushed to ER. Dr found that the sac has come down gthrough the cerclage. baby joanne was alive for 2 hrs...............Its very depressing & heart breaking to go through these trials. My husband is very supportive & helping in every way he could. i have no family here.
Iam very much ready to get pregnant again & ready to do anything to have a fullterm healthy baby. I am concerned about strict bedrest & as my husband has to work for us to survive. My mom's vis got rejected the third time yesterday. so she cannot come. ........
I feel helpless at this point.
can anyone please give suggestions for how to take strict bedrest especially as i cannot walk to bathroom. Last time I was on bedrest my biggest problem was constipation as i cannot have bowel movement using bedpan.
So please anyone who have taken bedrest successfully please give me tips on using bedpan or other options, taking shower, spending time, as i'm planning to get pregnant soon.
PLEASE REPLY
THANKS
TINU
GOD BLESS U ALL

Dear Tinu,
Welcome to Share. I am so sorry for your losses. I have not been on bedrest but many women at Share have been and I know they will have many suggestions about ways to cope with it and to keep yourself busy.
I wish you well and hope to hear again from you soon.

Hi Tinu,
I was never on strict bedrest, so I can't help you a lot on the constipation, .other than to make sure to talk to your dr about getting you some medication that might help. And lots of water and fiber.
Honestly I don't know too many people that were not able to get up to use the bathroom unless they were on strict bedrest at the hospital. But maybe someone out there has some better ideas...
Good Luck,
Jackie

Hi Tinu,
I hope things will be better this time around. I think tht before you get pregnant again you should disuss with your doctor about putting in the cerclage earlier in the pregnancy while the cervix is still closed and has some length to it. The doctor should also consider doing another kind of cerclage if he did the McDonald Suture before. There is the Shirodkar Suture which my Dr. did for me. Maybe too you could make enquiries about a doctor specialising in high risk pregnancies to manage your case when you do become pregnant.
I had my cerclage at 25 weeks and have been on bedrest but I am allowed to get up to go to the bathroom. I initially started suffering with constipation but then I modified my diet based n my Dr's recommendation. Drink lots of fluids, have fruit and whole grain bread or cereal. It has eased up my situation. Diet is also important too because of the lack of activity on bedrest your chance of deveoping gestational diabetes is higher.
Its tough to be on bedrest but as I see it its only for a short time when you look at the big picture.
Best wishes..

Hi Tinu-
I was on strict hospital bed rest and had a very difficult time with the no shower and bed pan situation. They gave me stool softeners daily to help, also any type of fiber/prune juice may help.
Good luck and keep us updated.
I am also new to the site, nervous about getting pregnant again.

Hi, I am new to this site and i have been on bed rest for 3weeks with a cerclage. I receive it when my cervix was at 2.5cm. I am not due until December. I have such a long way to go. From what i have read the successes of the cerclage are high. Loretta

with cerclage
It certainly gives a bit of relief to see other people sharing same problem. I had a shirodkar cerclage at 26 weeks as dr. said that finger almost reaches internal os of cervix (not sure how much is open..any clue?) she put me on modified bedrest after hospital stay for 2 days but a day after at home, i started constipating and kind of bladder full..i had to sit 3-4 times and shit a bit each time to get relief for past 6 days and of which i have taken duphalac 4 times..cud not properly pee as well and i figured that i cud pee while standing..past 4 days has been really good diet and 4-5 litres of water but i do not see any improvement in bowel movement...going to doc tomorrow..i am due in december too and it is still not sinking in about the situation i am in..i was fine all 25 weeks although was anxious...i m just praying to give birth to a healthy baby as first one was an abortion at 12 weeks. I hope i get that strength.....

I know that there are a lot of women on bedrest who have issues with their digestive systems. I know water and fiber help, but hopefully your doctor can give you more suggestions to help everything "pass". Good Luck,

My cerclage
Hi Im 19 wks and had a cerclage placed at 13 wks. I've been on bedrest since. My cerclage has slightly started funneling but other than that I'm great. My cervix is at 2.3 and pray it doesn't budge and funneling stops. We need to keep praying! Keep your faith and trust God for this Miracle! My family and I will be praying for you God Bless

I had a successful cerclage experience:) Right now I'm sitting in my living room looking at my healthy/happy five month old little boy! I was on bedrest from week 22 to 37. I had issues with funneling and contractions. Stay off your feet as much as you can. Cigna insurance gave me a contraction monitor to keep at my house to help monitor my contractions which was wonderful to have. It was a very hard four months! Try to keep your mind busy, watch movies, read and have people visit you. Create your baby registry online, research products... I was very high risk because I was 39 years old and it all worked out! It will for you too! I would do it again in a heart beat to have another child! best of luck to you! Keep your chin up and try to keep a schedule if you are on bedrest.....keep positive!

one more thing... I didn't have to stay in bed, I could sit in a recliner as long as it was all the way back and my feet were up. That made me feel a little better. I was able to switch back and forth from the bed to the recliner. Don't stay in one place all day, you will get depressed. As I mentioned before, create a schedule if you are on bedrest. I would keep a cooler of items next to me so I didn't have to keep getting up for meals. I hope this helps! I'll keep all of you in my prayers! Think positive! It worked for me! I had issues every week and in the end my son didn't come out when the cerclage was removed. Scar tissue had formed and I ended up having a Csection:)

I apologize for writing so much. I hope it helps. Last thing, I ended up with gestational diabetes because of the lack of activity. It would be wise to follow the diet when you're on bed rest, just to keep your numbers down right from the start. (regardless if you have it or not) It might help you avoid getting it. I hated pricking myself a few times a day. I have an issues with needles.. Water is crucial, as hydration keeps your contractions to a minimal which is important, as contractions can follow after or during funnelling sometimes. best of luck to you!

I'm new...as in just registered today...I'm 21 weeks & 4 days; had a cercalge this past Tuesday and have been put on bed rest for the next month at least. I was really worried when I read up on what it entailed and why I needed it. Funneling of course!!! But I figured being a part of this site might help alleviate some of my fears and me get through bed rest. To Newmom40: mamee2B is right we just have to keep the faith and we'll get through this. This is my second but it's been eight years since my first and it feels totally new to me. I certainly never never had this issue the first time around. In fact, that pregnancy was downright boring compared to this one but I pray and trust that we'll make it through safely and have happy babies. Tanya

Re: bed rest w/cerclage
Hi Tanya! Welcome to Share! This is a great place to find the support you need. I had a cerclage in my 2nd pregnancy and I was so worried the whole time. I found a great group of women in the "pregnant? on bedrest?" discussion that helped me get through it. The discussion is still active (with new preggos) and I hope that you stop in their and introduce yourself. I can almost guarantee you will comforted by knowing there are other women who are struggling with the same issues right now.
Good Luck,
Jackie

Re: bed rest w/cerclage
Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope you have many more weeks of it! I did bedrest for 6 months with my second when I started funneling around 14 weeks. I had a cerclage placed that day and didn't more until 37 weeks...it worked! I have a healthy happy 3 year old. I had another cerclage placed with my 3rd at 13 weeks and never went on bedrest. I'll be getting a cerclage in about a month with number4...I'm still nervous but faithful in my doctor and trust my body to let me know if something is wrong...like Jackie said the thread pregnant and fabulous is a great place for support...it's gotten me through 2 pregnancies and getting ready to get me through my 3rd!
I hope my story helps you feel at ease. Good luck!
