Recurrent Miscarriages, Incompetatnt Cervix - Need to hear ur success stories

hope4me - 06:56am Sep 23, 2009 EST

Hello Ladies,

I am new to this website. I am 32 and have had 3 consecutive miscarriages!!! I really need you women who have been through the same situation to give me some hope. I want to hear about your combat if u were in a situation similar 2 mine.

I have always been overweight(Pre Preg Wt 208 lbs). I took metformin as I had irregular menstrual periods and was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovaries (PCOD) when we were TTC. I have one kidney by birth (left one) and have 2 cervices with a septum. So, I have a Didelphyus Uterus with the left horn slightly larger than the left. The perinatologist feels that with this kind of a uterus shape I can conceive and give birth.

I conceived the first time through an assisted IUI cycle (Injections) and conceived twins in the right horn (smaller). Unfortunately, at 15 weeks I started cramping and lost my babies (boy and a girl). I did not have a D&C as everthing just made its way out. The doctors said that with barely half the uterus and a multiple gestation, this was bound to happen. I was not ready to buy this theory as dont women carry multiples ??? But this was my first pregnancy and so I juss did not think too much.

Within a month I conceived again with a singleton, this time naturally. It was in the left horn (larger). We thought that it would go well this time. But I needed an emergency cerclage at
17 weeks as I had dilated around 2 cm. My cervix was stiched. The pregnancy stayed for just 2 weeks more. I had a uterine infection (infection of the amniotic fluid). My baby (boy) had passed away and I had to be induced labor at 19.5 weeks. I needed a D&C this time. The doctors said that I had real bad luck with this one. Again, blaming it on bad luck did not appeal to me, but.....

After a year I conceived again in April this year. This time we wanted to ensure that there was to be a singleton in the larger horn. The doctors had also planned to put the stich at 12 weeks well before time to enhance my chances of a near to term pregnancy. I conceived again with a natural IUI (no meds) cycle. At 12.5 weeks, I had a cervical stitch put in place. From week 16, I started 17P Progestron shots(to relax the uterine muscles and prevent preterm labor). At 18 weeks, I started to have shooting lower back pains and when I went to the hospital, I was already 3-4 cm dilated. The stitch had to be removed and the water bag had to be broken to allow delivery. I lost my baby girl!!!

I am totally devasted. I have an abnormally shaped uterus. But dont women carry multiples ? I atleast have more than half of a normal uterine cavity ? Then why should I not carry a baby at least close to term ?? I had 2 consecutive cerclages but none of them worked. I have heard about a Trans Abdominal Cerclage(TAC) which works when a vaginal fails. But the TAC is a major procedure and I am scared that this should not affect my ability to get pregnant as it can be done before even TTC. What other are my options ? Can anyone suggest a very good Doctor in NYC who specializes in high-high risk cases ? Will I ever have a healthy living baby ?

Please tell me me how u dealt with an incompetent cervix or recurrent miscarriages. As much as I want to get pregnant, I am scared to death that I will not go beyond the 4th month.

Im really sorry for all your losses. I myself lost my lil girl Dec. 11,2009 and it hurts so bad, but I cant even think of losing more than one baby. I also have an IC my stitch did not come out from the cerclage placed my water bag came out the side of my cervix and but my ob recommends a TAC before I even get pregnant again. But Im scared myself to get that done. I wish you the best of luck and hope you can find the answers and help you are looking for again sorry for what you have gone through.

S.B.
