THANK GOD ALMIGHTY I'M FREE AT LAST!

Dec 03, 2009 03:20pm (EST)

Isabel is Home! Peggy brought here home yesterday. A day short of 35 weeks, she truly is a miracle baby. No issues, no problems, she is living proof of the goodness of God.

Megan and Katie are quite fond of her to say the least. Katie wants to play with her like a doll!

She is doing great and eating well. Hopefully she enjoys getting her outfits changed frequently because Peggy enjoys changing them!

Thank you everyone for all the support you have been to our family. God used so many people to bless and help us this past month.

We love you all

NICU NO MORE!

Nov 28, 2009 09:58am (EST)

This week Isabel graduated to an open crib, 100% bottle feeding and as of last night she has been moved out of the NICU and into the nursery! She also hit the 5 lb mark! No health issues, no problems or setbacks. . . this girl is really special.

Her Grandma Debbie was really thrilled about the move because now she can hold and feed her. We just praise God that she is doing so well. He is so good.

She is only 34 weeks, but there is a strong chance that she will be coming home within a week! It's a good thing because I think her sisters are planning to break into the hospital and see her if she doesnt come home soon

I'm sure there will be more good news to come.

AN ENTRY FROM ISABEL

Nov 23, 2009 08:23pm (EST)

So I hear that my parents have been keeping people posted on my progress with this blog. Well, I thought I would give them a night off and give you the story first hand.

Today I drank my first bottle! At first it was a little difficult to suck, swallow and breath at the same time. But then the nurse said that premies rarely ever drink a full bottle their first try and I took that as a challenge. So I downed 39 of my 40 cc's of formula in about 15 minutes. I really wanted to finish off that last one, but I was tuckered out. Hopefully these nice doctors will take this feeding tube out of my nose soon....

This Hospital is so great! I'm not sure how many nurses I've met so far. (Cut me some slack, I wasn't supposed to be born until January. I'll have plenty of time to learn how to count later...) But every nurse and doctor has had their own special way of caring for me. As nice as this place is, I'm getting more excited about coming home. I hear that I have two older sisters and I would kind of like to see for myself.

Well, I guess that's all for tonight

With love,

MAKING US SO PROUD....

Nov 21, 2009 10:36am (EST)

Isabel is doing great! She is now 4lbs 5 ounces! The doctor decided to wait just a little bit before putting her in an open crib so she could continue to conserve calories and gain weight and she has definitely done just that.

Peggy has her bulletin board all decorated in her famous scrapbooking style and Izzy is wearing all her own clothes now. These days, her hospital room feels cozy like home, but we can't wait for the day when she is cozy AT home!

No other updates on a projected date we can bring her to north Missouri yet. She still needs to start eating from a bottle. I know that she will graduate from that part of her develop just like she has all the others....with flyer colors!

That's all for now,

62 WHOLE OUNCES!

Nov 17, 2009 09:32am (EST)

Isabel continues to amaze us with her progress. She is now 3lb 14 ounces. She is wearing (tiny, tiny) clothes and is fast approaching being in an open air crib. The nurses did move her to the "less intensive" hall of the NICU (Tulip Lane) as she is a "feed her, grow her" baby now. Praise God for his goodness! His promises of strength and healing are for anyone who will believe.

I haven't mentioned this yet, but I'm so proud to have a daughter be born in the great state of Kansas (just like her dear old Dad.) Obiously there is no real significance to what state you were born in, but it makes me smile never the less.

She is eating well over an ounce every 3 hours and will get to start bottle feeding the first of next week. I started taste therapy with her yesterday which is dipping her binky in formula while she is eating through the feeding tube. Her eyes got so big with the first "taste" of formula. It was like she was thinking "You guys have been holding out on me..."

Thank you everyone for your gifts of clothes! Izzy will be the envy of Tulip Lane with her fashionable attire.

I almost forgot to mention that she is now 17 1/2 inches long. She is still all arms and legs, but her little cheeks are filling out. she could still fit in the two inche wide diaper, but what she leaves in them sure won't! My goodness, she just about got me twice Sunday night while trying to change her.

Well, that's all for now.

BORING, BORING, BORING....JUST THE WAY WE LIKE IT.

Nov 11, 2009 09:00am (EST)

Eat every three hours, poop every (fill in the blank), sleep every minute in between. It's a beautiful thing to watch a healthy baby grow every day! Isabel is doing really great. As of last night she is up to 3lb 5 ounces and 16 1/2 inches. I can almost see a little meat on her bones. Well a very little meat...She is actually using regular size premie diapers now. Not because her behind is any bigger, but she pees throught the little ones. : )

Praise God, He is so good! There is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.

Peggy and I took a mandatory "infant CPR" class last night. I was totally excited to go. (Yeah! Retired nurses showing training videos from the 80's....awesome.) But it turned out to be very informative. I would definitely recommend every parent take one.

That's all for now, God bless!

AND IN THIS CORNER, 15 3/4 INCHES AND 3LBS...

Nov 07, 2009 09:16pm (EST)

Well it was another great day!

Isabel has now surpassed her birthweight of 2lb 15ounces and weighs a nice round 3 pounds. I would still classify her as a "skinny minnie" though.

The doctors ran a head ultrasound today and informed us that a little bleeding in the brain is normal and nothing to be concerned about. And since they found NO bleeding there is less than nothing to be concerned about! Praise God that Psalms 91 says that the Lord has given His angels charge (special care) over those who find refuge in Him!

Megan, Katie and I are down at the Ronald Mcdonald house with Peg tonight. It's hard to make the girls understand that this is the Ronald Mcdonald house, not Ronald Mcdonalds ACTUAL house. They are trying to contain their excitement so as to not disturb the other guests but they are failing miserably. They are having a blast though.

Another boring day is scheduled for Izzy. Eat, sleep, poop, repeat...Just the way we like it.

Again, thank you all so much for your support. There is still a long road ahead, but we know there is only more good things to come.

AND ON THE EIGHTH DAY....

Nov 06, 2009 10:58am (EST)

Isabel is a Rockstar. At least that's what every single nurse has dubbed her. She needs no assistance breathing or breaking down nutrients. She takes no medications other than a little caffeine. (We're all on a little caffeine these days...) She lost a few ounces the first couple of days but she is now only a few grams away from her birth weight.

They have labeled her care as "Feed Her, Grow Her". She's kind of like a chia-pet...just add water. Well, formula in her case.

God is so good! He has continually blessed Isabel's development as she "graduates" from one care to another. He has blessed us physically with Peggy's recovery and with strength for everyone involved.

The doctors will run a routine head ultrasound today, but that is the only thing out of the ordinary scheduled. Peggy is back down here and supplying the "kangaroo care". We have been set up at the Ronald Mcdonald house for the duration. It's not terribly close to the hospital, but it sure beats driving from Bethany everyday. We have a scheduled rotation to make sure "Sissybell" (one of her many nicknames) is never alone

We don't have any specific expectations for Isabel's return home. The doctors here have painted several scenarios. The middle of December is the estimate that gets repeated the most. As long as she can bottle feed, gain weight everyday and maintain her body temperature with just a blanket then she will be all set. We are believing that it will be sooner rather than later, but also the "right" time.

I'll try and update this page frequently to keep everyone in the loop.

Thank you all for standing with us and supporting us in prayer, we love you all.
