Lost my sonkianna evans - 05:58pm Nov 17, 2009 ESTHello my name is kianna, and I'm new to share your story. I joined because I am looking for a support system and to share my experience with other women who have gone through similar situations. Well I gave birth to my son November 3rd 2009 at 22 weeks. He was my first born child. I had vaginal birth. He weighed 1 pound and 3 ounces and was 12 inches long. Jr was born with a strong heart beat and was breathing, but the doctors said he was too small to put him in ICU. My son passed 4 hours after the birth. My cervix dilated too early and while it was opening I ended up getting an Bacteria infection that entered the cervix and caused an infection in the Amniotic sac, so they could not do an emergency stitch. My ob/gyn informed me that I may have a weak cervix and with the next pregnancy she wants to do a CERVICAL CERCLAGE to prevent preterm labor. My pregnancy was healthy with no complications. My cervix is just weak. My questions for you.....have any one had the CERVICAL CERCLAGE STITCH, and did it prevent preterm labor? Did you have to go on bedrest? I really want a child and I need to know if I have a chance and should I give having another baby a try with the help of the Cerclage. Please anyone, give me HOPE

Welcome to Share! I'm so sorry for the loss of your son. You have found the best support system around though! Personally, I don't have experience with a cerclage, but I'm positive there are plenty of folks here that can offer their words of wisdom. I hope you can find all the comfort I have here on Share...
Wishing you all the best,
Sarah

Hi Kianna -
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your first born baby boy! I couldn't imagine losing my son!
I gave birth to my first born son Jacob 6 1/2 weeks early this June (2009). My pregnancy was completely normal and everything was going well - until my water broke very suddenly. Within 2 hours of it breaking I was already dialated to a 5 - and so they had to admit me. I wonder if maybe, based on what you experienced, if something like that could have been related to my premature labor. Which makes me eager to do some research about it and talk to my doctor!
I wish you all the best with the healing of your son!

Welcome to Share!!! I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your son. I lost my daughter a little over a year ago, it is a heartbreak like no other. I didn't have any cervix problems, but I know there are plenty of mommies on here that have been in your shoes. Just wanted to welcome you and say that I hope you continue to Share with us, it has helped me tremendously in the healing process with the loss of my daughter. Thinking of you.

Hi Kianna,
I'm sorry about the loss of your son.
I had my first son at 24.5 weeks due to incompetent cervix, and that pregnancy was perfectly fine and healthy before I went into labor. With my second son I had a cerclage at 14 weeks. Several weeks before that my OB started me on weekly 17P shots, and after my cerclage I had ultrasounds about every 3 weeks to check the baby and my cervix. I ended up on bed rest at 24 weeks due to shortened cervix with funneling. With all of that I made it all the way to my due date, (cerclage was remove at around 35 weeks) and no preterm labor.
You'll be in my thoughts and prayers,
Kristy
