Care Packages for Parents of Micro-Preemies

Nick Hall - 03:52am Dec 10, 2009 EST
Father of Reece and Graham, Founder of Graham's Foundation - supporting parents of micro-preemies

My wife, Jennifer, and I know first-hand the initial shock and roller-coaster ride of emotions that parents of micro-preemies face. Our son, Graham and daughter, Reece were born far too early, at only 25 weeks gestation.

We lost Graham after only 45 days and Reece was in the NICU for 4 months. We celebrated every milestone of her development--from breathing on her own to learning to take nourishment from a bottle and finally coming home. But as parents of micro-preemies know, those milestones were interspersed with setbacks that brought new fears and challenges.

As a result of our experience, we have created Graham's Foundation. The foundation's purpose is to provide care packages to the parents during their journey in the NICU.

Take care,

Nick & Jennifer Hall

too had micro- preemies. i had twin boys at 23 weeks and 4 days and 24 weeks and 2 days i was able to keep the second baby in four days longer by some miracle . tyler was born first and at birth he weighed 1 pound 2 ounces. he lived 9 days and died from nec. levi was 1 pound 6 ounces at birth and he lived 8 days dieing from kidney failure and two brain bleeds a grade three on the left side and a grade 4 on the right. they were healthy the whole time i was carrying them i did nothing wrong i just had a shortened caervix at an ultrasound so they did a cerclage and things started looking like i would get to carry my babies to term then i started feeling pressure and what i thought were barxton hicks went for ultrasound and it showed i was dialted to 2 cm and 80-90 effaced i was rushed from a hospital with a level 2 nicu to a level three where my labor was stopped but my water broke the next night for no reason they tried to do an amino on him the next day but there just wasnt enough to do anything. i would love to know if there is any research on cerclages when you are pregnant with twins and if they work and if they are supposed to send you home after the surgery or keep you there since the risk of infection increases the longer the stitch is in added to the fact that i had twins which is already high risk. i still feel something could have been done and now me and my kids who came into this world way to early had to suffer the consequences of doctors that didnt watch me closly enough.

Evan in my heart forever

Its only been two weeks today since i loss my son EvanMichael he was born 1/26/2010 @ 30 wks weighing 1lb 3oz he lived for two days but on 1/28/2010 he had a pulmonary hemorrage caused from PDA and he passed. I didn't get the opportunity to feed him or just do the things that mother would for her child and I get frustrated with myself sometimes because I wonder did I visit him enough or did he even know I was there I wish I couldve had more time with him but I know everything happens for a reason and I'm relying on my faith in God to help me through this.
