Bedrest at 26 weeks

Mary1978 - 11:45am Dec 22, 2009 EST

I am new to this and I heard this is a great place for connection with other people on bed rest. I am just trying to be positive and keep my time from moving so slowly. I have been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and my potassium was really low. I guess I was just wondering who else is out there going through this too.

Hoping to make it to at least 38 weeks.
Mary

Hi Mary,

There is a folder just for the people who are pregnant right now but I can't think of its exact name (Kristyn, help?) but you are right this is a great place for support, information and tips. People here vent the good, the bad, the happy and sad and sometimes just the distracting.

Welcome to Share! I wish you luck and 12 more weeks.

I had preeclampsia w/ Hellp at 29 weeks but I deteriorated very rapidly, it sounds like you are doing well. Hang in there and listen to your body.
Keep us updated.

First, here is a link to the discussion Ellen was talking about:

Pregnant and Fabulous?

There are quite a few women on there who are currently in a high risk pregnancy. I can't say how many are on bedrest right now, but I'm pretty sure there are some. I spent a ton of time making friends in that discussion area when I was preggo with my son 4 years ago, I can't tell you how much it helped to have other people to talk to who knew what I was going through.

Congrats to you!
Jackie

Momma of Sky - now 5 (32 weeker), Will - 3 1/2 years old (37 weeks) and Adalynn - 16 months (37 weeks) and baby boy on the way!

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Thanks Jackie for posting the link

I have not had to deal with pre e or anything like it, but I have been on bedrest for 6 long months and I managed to make it...as Jackie said this site was one of the main ways I did make it through! She and I were actually on the thread together then and our boys share the same birthday My point is, it's a great place to be and I'm happy you found it.

Keep us posted and good luck to a long and uneventful pregnancy.

Kristyn

Thanks

Thanks to all you girls, I love the support system given on here. I am thankful to my friend carol who recommended this site to me! I get my next ultrasound on the 29th and can't wait. They keep telling me baby girl is doing well but it will be calming to see her again and settle some of the anxious feelings with this being my first pregnancy and all! I will definitely check out the Pregnant and fabulous link. Thanks again!

been there

know what your going through. bedrest is very hard. physically and emotionally. i was on it from 23 weeks until i delivered my son at 37 weeks. i had a pretty good pregnancy up until around 22 weeks. started having some contractions was put on procardia. then at 23 weeks started bleeding. found out i had partial previa. then at 29 weeks my dr said the babys head had already dropped. at 32 weeks i dialated to 1. then when i hit 36 weeks i started spotting. went to be checked and was having some pretty good contractions so i was admitted. stayed in hospital 9 days. delivered my son by induction at 37. had a rough delivery. pushed for 2 1/2 hrs. his head was so distorted he had a broken blood vessel under the skin. nicu drs had me scared to death thinking he had bleeding on the brain. he had a bad apnea spell where he turned blue when the nurse tried to feed him formula from a syringe. he hadnt learned to suck and swallow at the same time. he stayed in nicu for 3 days then finally we came home. he is my lil miracle. he was 1 month old yesterday. so hang in there you will make it. i had the faith but it was still hard to think i would ever see the finish line. i am proof you can. if you need to talk to anyone i am here. i would like to give other women hope, because i sure couldve used some uplifting words of encouragement when i was on bedrest. hang in there!!

    Thanks

thank you for sharing! I am now at 28 weeks and last week I was again admitted into the hospital with preterm labor...I was not feeling any of the contractions but they were picking them up on the monitor. I am now on procardia and it is making me feel very sick. The headaches have went away but now I feel sick to my stomach and dizzy. My doctor lowered my dose from 4 times a day to 3...Which is a blessing cause now I do not have to wake up in the middle of the night to take it . I have made it to the docs first goal of 28 weeks now her goal is 34 weeks. I have all the faith I will make it there! Thanks to all who have shared their story's with me!

    Re: Thanks

Mary, I'm sorry you had to go back to the hospital. Have they considered a home monitoring system so that they will be able to monitor you closely?

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks peasinapod...they talked about having someone come monitor me at home but my insurance will not cover it. I am not sure they have home monitoring systems and if they do my doctor has not mentioned it. She is having me come in once a week until I reach 32 weeks then she wants me to come in 2 to 3 times a week. Today was hard because I had to do my 3 hour glucose and it made me feel really lightheaded and sick to my stomach so they had me lay down between blood takes but the good news was my BP stayed stable! I just wish I would find out the results before Monday. I am just hoping this test comes back negative. Hope everyone on here has a very happy New Year!

Continued good luck with the bed rest. Perhaps you could get a home blood pressure monitor. After I came home, my doctor had me call in everyday with my numbers.
    Good luck.

I passed my Glucose test!!!! I am monitoring my bp at home 4 times a day and any that are higher she has me call in. I keep track of them and take them to my weekly appointments. Se liked they way they are looking so she says I can be up for 2 hours a day! She wants to test my BP to see if it still stays in normal range. Thanks to everyone for the positive thoughts!

Wishing you all a positive week!
