Shower questions:

Ok I am new to this and my sister has never been to a shower but she is the one throwing the shower for me. It is a couples shower and she is having trouble with the door prizes she should buy. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking gift cards to chain restaurants. But also how many and how much do you spend on them?

The other question I have is, is it rude not to open gifts at the shower? My sister does not want to make me rush through opening them and thought it would be better if we could take our time opening them at home. But I know some people might get offended. What do you guys think?

^i^D'Lon Grace^i^ ~ Forever 3 ~ Missing you every second of every day!

Hello and welcome to Share. I have no idea about baby showers and such. I have only attended a couple years ago and I delivered my daughter at 23w1d so it was waaaaay before anyone was thinking of a baby shower. You probably can go online and google babyshower games and such.

As for opening your gifts later, you should do what feels right for you. It's your shower and if gift opening during it is not part of the party, I think that should be fine.

Congratulations on your upcoming birth!

Take good care,
Yolonda

Mom to Kimberly (25 wkr, now 6 yrs!) & Matthew (38.5 wkr, almost 4 yrs!)

Honestly, I've never been to a couples baby shower, but I have been to couples wedding showers. (I have had friends that have had the baby kind for both sexes, I've just never been able to go).

Anyway, I wouldn't spend too much on prizes. But overall it depends on how many you are getting. I would probably spend less than $50 on all of them. I would figure 2-3 prizes for games and I would spend $10-$15 each. Restaurant certificates are good, as well as stores both sexes shop at... Target, Walmart, Grocery stores, etc. Anyone would be please to get those.

And if you are asking for opinions on gifts, I think people are disappointed if they don't get to see you open gifts. Sometimes they want to be able to explain something when they are opened ("remember the time...."), other times they just want to see your reaction. But it's obviously up to you and what you want to do. If you don't want to make it part of the shower, you could just mention at the end, "looks like we are running short on time, so if you want to stay to open gifts you are more than welcome to, but I totally understand if you just want to head home." People will then be able to do what they want.

I hope that shower goes great! And for every shower I have hosted I always google ideas on making them more interesting, so follow Yolonda's advice and see what you can find!

Momma of Sky - now 5 (32 weeker), Will - 3 1/2 years old (37 weeks) and Adalynn - 16 months (37 weeks) and baby boy on the way!

Mary, I am not a big shower person (meaning I'm not really good with that kind of thing) but I did host one. It was in the spring and we bought potted flowers that were very pretty for door prizes and a spa/massage gift card (though the co-host worked at the salon).

As far as opening gifts I would say, if you are allowed to be up at that time go for it. If you are supposed to be resting then, just tell your guests you appreciate it, but feel you shouldn't be up to help keep baby girl safe! They'll probably understand...though, a good set up on the couch might allow you to open at least the small ones.

Have fun getting all kinds of fun stuff for your little one!

Thanks

thanks ladies...I am going to be on a couch at the shower and my husband will be in charge of opening gifts if we decide to. I think it is all going to depend on how I am feeling at the time and what side effects I am having from the procardia. I just want to make it fun for everyone, I know our time is going to be limited so I am going to leave it up to that whether we open gifts or not I think.
Thank you for all the gift ideas. My sister will appreciate it!

Mary
