Diagnosed with incompetent cervix after 3 healthy, full term deliveries
Schureman - 10:19pm Feb 4, 2010 ESTI am just wondering if there is anyone out there that has gone through something similar.
I have 3 healthy children which I am very grateful for.
In December of 2006 I was 20 weeks pregnant and hadn't had any complications. All of a sudden one day my bag of waters broke. I was admitted to the hospital and put on strict bedrest, but delivered a couple of days later.
In January of 2009 I again was 20 weeks pregnant and hadn't had any complications when my bag of waters started to leak. I was again admitted to the hospital and ended up delivering a couple of days later.
My OB and Peri are now saying that I should try a cerclage.
Im just confused on how I had 3 healthy pregnancies and now this is happening. I am just looking to see if there are any successful cerclage stories that are similar to my history.
Thanks so much!!

I did have an IUD put in after my 3rd child. It was in for about a year. My children are all about 2 1/2 years apart. My youngest is now 5.
Thanks for commenting.

I'm sorry for the losses of your babies. I don't have the same story as you, but I know a number of women on this site have no known reason for an incompetent cervix (including me). My oldest was a preemie, but not born until 32 weeks so they don't even think I had IC with her...it did showed up in my second pregnancy at 14 weeks and my OB was baffled as to why. I am not sure of any research with an IUD and IC...I personally chose not to have an IUD because I always felt like I knew something was wrong with my cervix and we wanted more kids, so I didn't want anything there, but that was just my personal opnion for my own self based on nothing medical at all. As for getting a cerclage they are typically done between 12 and 14 weeks (though some doctors do it a bit earlier or later). Done at this stage the risks are minimal compared to waiting until later on in pregnancy. I've had 3 cerclages all placed between 13 and 14 weeks. I've had two full term babies with it and I'm waiting on number 4 baby with a cerclage right now . As I said, they, my old OB and my new OB, don't think i had IC in my first pregnancy. Who knows why I developed it in my second...and I'll probably never know which makes me crazy. However, cerclages did it for me and I've got two healthy babies and one on the way thanks to my OB and a cerclage. Good luck in the future! Kristyn

I relate a little to your story.
My son (first pregnancy) was born at 40 weeks. I had a wonderful pregnancy if you can call it wonderfull with morning sickness and thowing up even when shopping at te stores, some leg cramps for a couple of days and migraine for a couple of days. He was born by C section because I was dialated to 5 and his head didnt drop to the birth canal yet. He is a very healthy 4 year old now.
My daughter was born at 23 weeks in 2009, there was infection in the placenta and we both were treated with antibiotics. She passed away 5 days later. Doctors dont know if I was dialating for a while and didnt know and it cause staff infection or if the infection is what cause for me to have a preterm baby. But they are more towards the first option.
I was told by my high risk ob that she recomends progesterone but still sent us to a perinatologist to hear what he has to say. He recomended progesterone and a cerclage. I am so terrified because I dont like doctors, I dont like them touching me and I only deal with it when I want a baby but a cerclage goes beyond the point I would let someone touch me.
I am so sorry for your losses. It hurts. I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy and that if you have to have a cerclage that you have no problems with it. Mine is scheduled for next week and I am still considering cancelling it.
