day 11 in the NICU...how will I make it through this

nhunter928 - 11:39am Feb 9, 2010 EST

My daughter Kailee was born at 25 weeks and 3 days. We are on day 11 in the NICU and some days I don't know how I'm going to make it through the day. Kailee has her good days and her bad days but she's doing ok right now. We got a lot of bad news today, she may require PDA surgery, she has P.I.E, her blood sugar is high, and she is requiring sedation today. Looking at my baby with all the tubes, IVs and everything else is so hard.
We have lost two prior children, our son Jayden was stillborn at 20 weeks and our daughter Jaylen was born at 26 weeks and passed away after 6 days in the NICU due to complications from P.I.E and brain bleeds. We are absolutely terrified. I left the NICU this morning in tears. I know the NICU is a roller coaster but how will I make it through this?!?!??

I am so sorry for the loss of your son and daughter. I can only imagine your pain....

I am sorry to read about your daughter, Kailee's early arrival. Nothing prepares you for the NICU experience. Seeing your tiny baby fighting, is beyond overwhelming. My daughter spent 7 weeks in the NICU. What helped me cope with things was just to take things day by day. I know its hard... We are here to listen, we all know what its like.

I know starting a blog helped me...

Take care,
Cathy

First let me say how sorry I am that you have suffered the loss of two of your children. I can't imagine how heartbreaking it is and how much that impacts how you are feeling right now.

Please know that things can go well, I have a 25 weeker who is now is healthy 6 year old. So don't lose hope.

And while I can't tell you how to get through it, other than "any way that you can", please know that we will be here to hold your hand every step of the way.

Big hugs,
Jackie

Welcome to Share and I am so sorry for the loss of your two sons. I hope that Kailee comes through the PDA surgery well. We will keep Kailee in our thoughts and please keep us updated. Getting through the NICU is so difficult. I did not have Share at the time but I wished I had this is a great place for venting and comfort.

Take care,
Ellen

Hello and welcome to Share. I am so very sorry for the loss of your two sons. I am also sorry Kailee is having a rough go right now. The NICU is a very hellish ride. It so hard as parents to watch all that our children endure. We would take all of the pain, procedures, ups and downs in a heartbeat but thats not the way that it works. It is not our fight. I pray your precious Kailee's PDA surgery goes smoothly and she is back on the upside of this rollercoaster ride. Please know that we are all here for you.

Take good care,
Yolonda

Hi! I'm new to this site and am here on the behalf of my niece and younger sister. My niece was born at 23w6d and has been in NICU for 12 days. Thankfully her pda closed but it is definitely a tough battle. I wish you and your little one the best. Please keep everyone abreast of your current situation.
