23 WEEKS & COUNTING

Apr 14, 2010 03:54pm (EST)

Good afternoon readers,

I have never done a blog before, maybe someone will decide to read and offer support during this difficult and confusing time.

I will start with a little background history. I am 29yrs old, I have 2 boys (6yrs and 8yrs- full term), I experienced a loss last year in August 2009 and I am pregnant again with the same complications.

Last year, I started having complications during my 3rd pregnancy around 3 months- 12 weeks. The doctors kept stating, thats not a complication, many women experience that during pregnancy. However, I had never with my two previous. And the one night, while in bed, my water broke. I immediately cried and went crazy, knowing I was too early to be going into labor. I was rushed to the hospital, only to find out, I wasn't in active labor but due to the lack of water, I was going to be induced, delivered and my one and only daughter would not make it. I had a very hard time after that, I blamed everyone, including myself.

That was August 2009, I fond out I was pregnant again in November October 2009, due August 7 2010. However, the same problems arouse in this pregnancy. At which point, I knew no matter what doctors said about other women, this was not normal for me. I am now being seen once a week by both OBGYN and High risk specialist. At 12 weeks I was suggested to get a cerclage. However my OBGYN, who delivered my last preterm baby, strongly stated I shouldn't get it because she didn't feel I needed it. Well, she was wrong because at 16 weeks I was told I had a short cervix and rushed to the hospital to emergency surgery. During the procedure, my specialist also noticed I was already dilated 1cm and 60% efaced. The cerclage has kept me at a good stage up until last week. I was 23 weeks and she found my cervix has gotten even smaller. Now I will be starting steroid injections next week, once I make the 24 week mark, to help lung development, to prepare us for premature labor.

So, now we are preparing, in many different ways to deliver premature, we are just not sure how premature. Though when I stand, I feel, its not that far away. I just pray to get as far as possible for my babys' sake.

I wish I new more about premature babys'. I was also a premie, but not earlier enough to be hospitalized in any way. I am told this baby will be in the hospital for months depending on size and complications. Im so worried and nervous about what to expect at this point. And just wanting to make sure we get the best hospitals and doctors to help my baby. Im open to suggestions, currently we will be delivering at Emory Eastside in Snellville Ga. Is that a good place to my premie baby, or should I think about another hospital? I don't know. I just want the best.
