New Quiz:

1. Who raises more per capita for the March of Dimes than any place else in the WORLD?

2. Where did the very first March of Dimes *walkathon* take place?

3. Since our first walk in 1970's how much has the March of Dimes raised for our mission?

4. Name our top 10 national sponsors...(no peaking)

5.What Share mommy was on the March for Babies online banner in 2010?

Heartbroken

I'm stealing Lauren's idea of a garage sale, which will be on April 30. I have received many donations for the sale, so I hope it will do well. I'm doing okay on fundraising. My team members seem to want to support me by walking, but not necessarily to support MOD by raising money. That's a bit perplexing. Last year, I raised about $750 on my own, so I thought my team could do $1000. I'm at like $430 and no one else has done anything yet. It's a bit disappointing, but I don't know what to do about it. Every bit helps and maybe the garage sale will do really well.

Angel Love - Apr 23, 2011 3:21 am (#19 Total: 39)

Oh!!! Fed Ex and Farmer's Ins. are both sponsors!! ("We are Farmers...bump, ba bump bump, ba, ba, ba....." )

Was the Share mommy---Jaclyn?? I know she was on something pretty important not so long ago!!

mom to Emily (36 weeker)- 8 yo, Alaina (33 weeker)- 5 yo, Matthew (37 weeker)- 3 yo

I think Kmart and Famous Footwear are also National sponsors
and I am pretty sure the 1st walk was in San Antonio Texas..(I read it once, useless info I remember)
That is all I know for sure without researching it....

Let's see if I can figure out any of these answers...

1) Staten Island?

2)

3) Hmmm... don't know...

4) Dang it! I was going to say Kmart - They're Detroit based... or used ot be.
I think Cigna is one and First Response (pregnancy tests).

5) Yup, it was Jaclyn, or at least I remember her being on it in her bright pink hat!

Good luck with your sale, Shannon! hope you sells lots and lots of stuff!

Silly question, does anyone know if they are doing a separate "Youth level" incentive? Last year I think kids had to raise $125 to get a shirt but this year everything just says $200 for a shirt. Did they cut out the kids incentive?

Ding, ding!!! Jac you got #1 right, how did you guess? Lol (yes had to toot toot)

Typing on my phone so I'll post the rest of the answers tomorrow from my computer.

We don't do a youth initiative. We have the *wonder walk* in October. That's our youth initiative...they get a class pizza party, plaque and shirts.

Angel Love - Apr 25, 2011 1:39 am (#23 Total: 39)

Jackie~ I think each chapter handles the children differently these days. Check with your reps to see what they say....

Jess~ "Toot" away!! Ya'll deserve it!

I know that Jessica (Madison's Mom) had a Zumbathon in their area to raise $ and it was a huge hit. I hope you have just as great of turnout.
I've had some mildly successful events in the past, and some not so good events in the past. But the way I look at it, is that any money that comes in is more than I had before!

    Congrats on your son!

So bummed.... It's supposed to rain on Sunday. 3rd stinking year in a row with lousy walk weather. ARGH!

My garage sale made $100! We're supposed to have a beautiful day for the walk this Saturday. My fellow angel mom and friend just had her twins 8 weeks early, so this seems more important than ever because I know that without MOD, Sophia and Sam would not be thriving (Sophia is off oxygen!). My niece, a 26 weeker who is now 16 will also be joining us, as will my husband. I'm getting excited!

    Shannon~ That's great!!!

I hope that the Zumba event works out great for you!! As Jackie said, the Zumbathon that Jess had went great!! The other important thing that she mentioned is that it doesn't matter how much money your team donates, it's more than they had before!!

Putting forth the effort means the most!

Looking for pics of those walks that have just passed.......

We had our walk March 26. It was such a nice day. I have pictures posted on my blog page. Our team won first place for our t-shirt. It was our first year too. We walked in honor of our son who was born at 31 weeks with multiple birth defects and for my sisters boys that were also NICU babies that are now growing up so fast and healthy. This Thursday is our Thank You breakfast. We will be getting a plauqe for our shirts. I'm excided I got the day off work just to go.

Okay walkers.....I'm looking for pics of your events!! I'm pestering you because I haven't had my walk yet!! You know how great I am about posting pics.

My March for Babies is this weekend though so hopefully things will go great!!

Here are a couple of pictures from our walk:

First one is a wreath that people tied shapes to in honor of their kids. Each share was a different demographic (preemie, healthy baby, infant loss, and birth defect).

Second picture is Kimmie with our Mission display

Third is one of the buckets we use for our memorial garden. We let parents who have lost a child write their name or a little note and plant it in our "garden".

    Walk Wrap Up

Hope everyone had the best time at their walk & all walked away with even more amazing memories. My first walk was the most healing day for me and Keith. I say this all the time. It is where I felt welcomed and found out I wasn’t alone.

Of course our objective is to raise as much money as possible but I always like for the walk to impact the new families as much as mine did our first time out.

Now that walk is over I thought it would be a nice time to do a walk wrap up. Let’s share the ideas we used to make it possible for all our families to have the most amazing experience.

~Let's share the ideas of what you did the day of your walk event, leading up to it and any follow up events.

~What worked for your division and what didn't.

~ What you would like to see next year and what you think could be taken away.

I think our walk this year was pretty awesome but of course I like to always think of a bigger and better next year!!!

    xoxo
    Jessica

One of our best activities this year was having Lowe's bring out some of their kid's building kits and helping the kids put them together. We went through 100 of them in about an hour. It was great! I would ABSOLUTELY do that again!

Jackie that sounds like so much fun for the kids & awesome for the parents cause it must have kept them occupied. Sounds like fun.
