Uggghhhhhh... Fenugreek/Pumping/NICU baby
seandra - 11:47pm Oct 22, 2011 ESTWelll....
Can I get some advice here? I have been told that I should not try fenugreek, because my daughter is in the NICU. I have read quite a few stories on the internet where people are using fenugreek to boost their milk supplies. I know that I should follow the advice I have been given, but I can't help but wonder what kind of difference could be made for my daughter if I could just use the stuff.

( I am making about 150ml's a day.
Any thoughts, Ladies?

You should talk to the Lactation Consultant in the NICU if you haven't already. She would be able to tell you why Fenugreek is not recommended for your baby - I've never heard anything against it, so they must have some reason.
The best things to increase your milk supply without using supplements are to drink lots of water, and look at a picture of your daughter while you pump. Try to see if you can do kangaroo care right before pumping - anything that makes you feel closer to her will help increase your supply.
Best wishes!

Hi, I am a NICU mommy too and my lactation specialist suggested I try Fenugreek and it has worked well for me. They also suggested I eat oatmeal, drink anything with malt in it, and drink plenty of water. I have taken Reglan and that really helped bring more milk in too. I hope this helps. Nicole
