Preemie babies @ homw

Prissy1128 - 01:16am Dec 17, 2011 EST

Hello! I just brought my preemie twins home! They were two months in the NICU. I got so use to having nurses around that now I am paranoid of something happening @ home. Since being home I notice that the girls cry alot more than they did in the hospital, is this normal? How much is to much crying?

I love my kids!

Can't help you here.....Every baby is different.

I know when I brought Tori home, it was one of three things.

1) Wet diaper.
2) Hungry.
3) Sleepy.

I got her on a 2-3 hour schedule of changing, eating and sleeping. It worked!

Good luck and keep us updated!
Love and light,
Liz

ps- That 2-3 hour schedule was the same schedule at the hospital. I kept her as close to normalcy(4 month hospital stay) as possible.

Come to ShareUnion 2012: It's the BEST weekend ever!!!

Another problem might be that it's too quiet at home. A lot of babies get used to all the noise and commotion of the NICU and find it soothing. You might want to try getting a machine that can make a "white sound" noise, or just a CD player with a lullaby. They could just need more noise to sleep and feel comfortable.

Mom to a 25 weeker who is now 8 years old and a 38.5 weeker who is now 6

Keep in mind you have TWINS and at the hospital they have more hands available to keep babies happy at the same time. They also have the luxury of only dealing with the babies. They didn't have to worry about making dinner, doing the laundry, cleaning, etc.
So give yourself a little slack and know that your babies are thrilled to be home with mom!

And Laura is right, sometimes extra noise helps NICU babies get used to being at home.

Too much crying is when you only have a few cry free hours a day. If your children seem inconsolible to you and cry for hours on end despite attempts to soothe them, talk to your pediatrician. It's possible they have colic but more likely they are just getting used to the change in environment.

Best wishes,
Jackie
