Are there other preemie moms in the bay area?
Abby1 - 01:54pm Dec 28, 2011 ESTI'm the mom of preemie twins (31 weeks gestation), and I'd love to meet other preemie moms in the bay area (I live in Millbrae). My twins are now almost 9 months old (7 months adjusted) and doing well, but I still feel the trauma of their preterm birth - all of the regret, anger, and guilt that goes with it - on a daily basis. Some days, I just find it hard to cope. I'm hoping it will fade in time, so I can start focusing on the present rather than looking back at the past, but I don't know how to make that happen..
It's been comforting reading the stories on this site and realizing I'm not alone. My husband got past the experience very easily, and he doesn't understand why I can't let it go. But there's something different about being a mom and knowing that it was my body that failed to carry the babies to term.
I'd love to meet some other local preemie moms - maybe even start a playgroup. Are there any other bay area preemie moms reading this site who might like to get together?

You might try contacting your local NICU to see if they know of any preemie play groups in the area.

I don't know about the bay area preemies. I hope you find a live support group but if you don't people are always willing to help you here. I was touched by what you said about your husband not quite understanding. I think in some ways it is harder for the mother. I know my husband was very affected by the preterm birth early on as time has gone on I still have these feelings while he has all but forgotten it. It's like a distant memory for him and a fresh wound for me. I guess it will just take us more time. Your feelings are normal. By reaching out to Share you have made the first steps towards going forward. Welcome.
