Home Monitor

Katie87 - 01:38am Feb 29, 2012 EST

Hello All- The day has come for Emma Kate to finally be off of her apnea monitor. I'm excited but at the same time really nervous. I'm mostly worried about at night when we are all sleeping... Any advice; I'm sure I'm not the only mom to go through this.

Abigail's Mom (29 weeks, 3/21/05)

I was so nervous. I was excited and terrified. I tried to realize that they wouldn't have taken her off if it wasn't safe and it had been so long since the last alarm (she had never alarmed at home) that I should let go. S The first few days were hard but you'll settle down. Just think of all the things you have gotten used to so far.

Good luck.
Ellen

I love my kids!

I agree with Ellen. I was nervous.

Yet...

So excited with joy not to hear that obnoxious noise every time a lead would slip or fall off.

They wouldn't take it back if they thought she was going to A or B. Also, I know for me, I knew I was up every 2 or 3 hours anyway to feed her. As long as I have her on her back sleeping with no blankets around her head, she would be fine.

I've learned that living in fear of the unknown will get me nowhere. I still live in fear every day for the other shoe to drop with Tori and it hasn't. If anything it has changed my whole being. Try not to worry and be nervous.....I know, so much easier said than done.

Keep us updated, Katie,
L&L, Liz

How exciting! I remember being so happy when they came to pick up that noise maker

I agree with the other ladies, her doctors would not have taken her off the monitor if they even thought she still needed it.

You will do great!

Come to ShareUnion 2012: It's the BEST weekend ever!!!

So exciting! I hope you all got some sleep. First night nerves are OK and normal, they will go away eventually. As a NICU mom you've been conditioned to rely on the numbers the monitor is showing you, we all were. It's hard to give up those monitors and realize that you really can do this without all the equipment. Eventually you'll be like "oh my god, how did i ever deal with that monitor all the time"
