Wanting to try again

Rylie's Mommy - 08:03pm May 17, 2012 EST

My first pregnancy was nothing short of a surprise. I went in for a doctors appointment and less than 2 hours later I had a 3 pound baby girl. My husband and I are thinking about having our second child. (Our little girl is 16 months, beautiful and completely healthy) Can anyone give any advice about the road ahead and what to expect. I'm one on 12 children and I thought that I would have the whole baby thing taken care of. But as any parent to a preemie knows; nothing you know about a term baby applies to a preemie. So, I'm anxious because even though I'm a mother now I find myself again going into the unknown with a second pregnancy. Any advice would be much apprciated.

Mom to Emilyn and Hailey (our 20 week angels) and Elim (our 38 week, full term miracle)!

Hello and welcome to Share! So glad that your little girl is doing fantastic now after an early arrival, and oh my goodness what a precious little girl!! Without knowing specifics about what happened they will probably monitor you very closely in the later parts of your pregnancy to prevent what happened before from happening again or catching it sooner so they can stop it in it's tracks. What caused your early delivery with your sweet girl? Even thinking of trying again can be so scary!

Welcome to Share! Having a second after a premie can be such a scary thought. I would start with an appt with your doctor to go over the last pregnancy and what they think would be a good plan for this one and see if you feel comfortable with that. If not, find a doctor and plan you are comfortable (as much as you can be) with. His/her explanations will probably greatly inform your next steps.

Good luck with the journey.

Hi there,
glad you found Share. I agree with the other ladies -- meet with your doctor upfront to review your entire previous pregnancy and come up with a plan for this next one.

good luck!

Mom to Donovyn (32 weeker), Tristyn (34 weeker), and Naethyn (30 weeker born sleeping)

Welcome to Share. Congrats on your little girl and happy to know that she is 16 months old and growing! Our first baby was a preemie and the same thoughts ran through our minds too. Having an excellent OB and a good plan in place helped to ease our fears a bit.

Best,

Lindsay
