32 weeks, premature labor has been stopped, 3-4cm dilated & 70% (Blog: Lakin's Story)kgrace - 05:13pm Jun 27, 2012 ESTHello my name is Kathryn. I am sitting in the hospital awaiting the arrival of my second child, Lakin, and currently I'm 32 wks 6 days. I went into labor last Thursday, 32 wks 0 days, and I am dilated to 3-4cm (depending on which doc you ask) & 70% effaced as of Saturday. I have not been checked since then but labor has been stopped with procardia. I stopped using procardia on Saturday also. My first child, Wyatt, was born at 28 weeks on December 11, 2009, we lost him 8 days after birth. My husband & I am very terrified of having another preemie. I want to know how long I can sit around dilated like this but that seems to be the question no one can answer. Just like no one can answer why I seem not to be able to carry to term. I was receiving 17p shots & bi-weekly ultrasounds with this pregnancy but yet here I sit. I will be released from hospital at 34 weeks, next Thursday, if no change

Welcome back to Share Kathryn. I'm deeply sorry for the loss of your baby boy Wyatt. I hope that Lakin will stay put awhile longer. Sometimes blood work can give answers as to the why, but you've probably been poked more times than you can count. I'm kind of surprised that the plan is to send you home if there's no change. You're high risk, you should get to stay until you deliver. Please keep us posted as you can.

Hi Kathryn, I am so sorry for the loss of Baby Wyatt. I hope all goes well with Lakin. I wish I could help answer why you have preterm issues. I went into labor at 30 weeks with my second child Ava and they stopped it as well and I returned home the next day. Please be sure to advocate for yourself.
I will include you and your family in my prayers.

Hello Kathryn, I am deeply sorry for the loss of your baby boy, Wyatt. I am glad the Drs were able stop your contractions, may hope that Lakin stays inside until the 40 weeks.
I had 3 prematures babies, as yourself there was no apparent reason, I just went into labor, though the Drs were able to stop labor for a week more or less with each pregnancy. I had a 31, 26 and 28 weeks babies. My 31 weeker is doing great, he is 11 now, you might like to see some pictures of him in my blog, Ana Valentina's Journal, my Drs, kept telling me that over 30 weeks is a "safe" stage, but each child is unique, and each story is different. Keep hope, I know it is so scary a pregnancy after a loss, but I am sure Lakin is going to be just fine..... hugs
