G-tube and getting help with PediasureReese's Mom - 04:19pm Jul 18, 2012 ESTI am trying to figure out where to go for help with pediasure. We live in Gibson county, IN. Our daughter will be getting a g-tube we think. Our insurance does not cover the cost of pediasure b/c you can buy it over the counter. Could someone please give me a little in sight on anything. She also has a shunt and just had a revision so they are taking there time with the g-tube placement they don't want her to get infection. I am overwhelmed and need a little insight on all this.
Thanks
Reese's Mom

I'm so sorry that all of this is happening without the insurance company's help. I don't have experience with this situation, but I know there are plenty of moms here who have traveled this road. You might also check with the hospital social worker to see if he/she has some ideas that might help. Good luck!

Hello,
My six year old son Tucker has a g button. His insurance company paid for Pediasure for years....sure you can buy it over the counter but who can afford that if that's all the baby drinks?
Tucker now drinks Boost by mouth to help him grow, we can buy that at the store but insurance still covers it....does your daughter have a case worker at the insurance company? I've found that when you talk to a "regular" claims person that answers the phone, they're almost always wrong. You need someone at the insurance company who handles complex cases.
Does that make sense? Also if you are eligible for WIC they may cover the cost of Pediasure as well.
Good luck! Keep us updated!

Hi Reese's mom!
I'm sorry you are going through this and being overwhelmed.
I know in the state of Pennsylvania, you qualify for WIC(WomenInfantChildren) pending on income and also by gestational age.
WIC will pick up the pediasure if prescribed by a Dr.
We do pediasure, I called Abbott and told them what was going on and asked for coupons. I get them almost every 2 weeks. You can also go here pediasure.com/coupons
I filled out the coupon form and get coupons emailed to me every month. I also get everyone I know to get them out of the Sunday paper.
That is 3 sources of coupons ranging from 2-5 dollars off.
Hope this helps some,
Liz

Hi,
We paid for pediasure for several years until the nutritionist got the Dr to write it as a script. It goes directly to the supplement company in this case, Chartwell. I order every month and it is delivered for free. We also get Duocal this way and now Boost Plus. We have gotten other nutritional supplements as well if the situation changes.
Good luck.

Hi,
I'm sorry you are going through so much right now. You should call your insurance company, they may feel differently if they know she has a g-tube. When our son first came home he had a g-tube and was completley fed with boost and the insurance company covered the cost of his formula because it was being delivered through a g-tube. Good luck!
