HOEKMAN FAMILY VACATION

Aug 04, 2008 08:13am (EST)

This week we are busy preparing for our first ever, only us 3, vacation for an entire week!! This is the first vacation we have took as a family, the last vacation we went on was just Austin and I, and that was 3 years ago! We are leaving on Thursday around noon and coming back next Wednesday night! We are doing a few things for the first time with Paul. Camping (in a tent), going on a boat cruise (in Duluth), and Paul will be attending his very first Twins game (in the Metrodome)! We are very excited to be going on this vacation (just us 3) and also a little worried about how he will handle hours in a car, camping, and sitting still at the game! But, I'm pumped! I'll post some pictures when we get back!
Also, my brother just got engaged to his girlfriend of 3+ years! We are very excited for them!
Have a great week!

ANYONE ELSE TIRED OF THIS QUESTION?

Jul 27, 2008 08:34pm (EST)

"So, when are you going to have another?" Anyone else tired of that question??? I know that people are going to ask it, especially if they don't know of our situation or are just trying to make small talk, but honestly! I have heard that question so many times that I feel like it is a script I have engraved in my brain, "Paul will be our only one (I go on to give them the abbreviated version of our story), but we are going through the adoption process, so hopefully we'll be able to give another child a home, we are so blessed to have Paul though" is basically my script. It is true, we are blessed, super blessed. But, if I want you to know when we are having another, I would tell you! Sorry about this, I was just thinking about that today and how many times I have heard it! Hopefully no one is offended!

We had a great weekend, Austin went fishing and Paul and I went to my hometown's jubilee days! Paul enjoyed the parade, collecting candy, eating, and going to the pool! Glad to be home again though!
We start swimming lessons this week, it should be fun!

HAIRCUT!

Jul 24, 2008 06:09am (EST)

I went and got a haircut yesterday! Donated it to Locks of Love, about 11 inches. I decided that if I got a haircut so should Paul. So, here we are with our new haircuts!

ANOTHER GREAT WEEKEND!

Jul 22, 2008 11:26am (EST)

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Ours was another one spent at home!! YEAH!! We were able to install the shower in our bathroom downstairs. We took in a Canaries (local baseball) game, Paul did pretty good at it, he wanted to run around but we were able to keep him entertained for the most part so we could stay in our seats, he definitely enjoyed the fireworks at the end of the game!
We had some major rain here on Friday night/Saturday afternoon! Thank God we didn't get any water in our basement!!!
I signed Paul up for "swimming" lessons next week, so that will be fun, he LOVES the water.
We've been somewhat successful with the potty, he has went in it a few more times, at least he's not scared of it and will sit there for a little bit!

I attached some pictures from this weekend. The first one is from our basement window looking out, the second one is between our house and the neighbor's house, and the third is from the Canaries game.

POTTY!

Jul 17, 2008 12:47pm (EST)

Super quick entry here! Paul went bathroom on the potty today! We were hanging out on the potty (diaper off) and looking through a magazine. He finally had enough of sitting there and there was some in the potty! I don't know if he really understood what he did, but it counts, right?!?!? Hope everyone is having a good day!

FINALLY A WEEKEND AT HOME!

Jul 14, 2008 10:34am (EST)

We spent this weekend at home, the first time pretty much all summer! It was great! Got to get some stuff done around the house! Paul was so fun this weekend! We went outside for supper on Saturday night and he was playing in the backyard in the dirt, so he got a little messy! It was so funny! This week there is vacation Bible school at church, so I am going to be helping with that every night. There is a nursery so I will be able to bring Paul and he can play with the other kids and Austin can get some work done at home! Other then that, I have been busy planning our family vacation for in August, I think I have everything set, so we're pretty excited. This is the first time we've taken a "family vacation" with our little boy! Hope everyone had a good weekend!

PS. I have attached a couple pictures of my "dirty baby"!!

SUPER WEEKEND

Jul 07, 2008 09:37am (EST)

This weekend was AWESOME!!!!
Austin's sister got married to an amazing man! We had so much fun! Paul had a tough time waking up from his nap to take pictures, but I think we were able to get a couple good ones! He loved the dance and didn't want to leave!
Made it through my 1 year "no surgeries" anniversary with no problems! YEAH!!
I attached a picture of Paul holding my bridesmaid flowers and a picture of Paul digging with Papa Mark! He didn't want to get out of the digger either!
Hope everyone had a good 4th!

ALMOST ONE YEAR!!!!

Jul 01, 2008 12:07pm (EST)

I've about made it to one year surgery free!!!!! I still have a few days to go (July 5th). I can't believe that we've been free of any major medical issues in the last year! It seems so crazy that it has been a year since I had my hysterectomy! I think I am coming to terms with it, it is still hard someday, but I know that I am one of the lucky ones to have discovered my ovarian cancer early AND I was able to have one amazing son!!!! I thank God everyday for him and the blessings we have been given!
This weekend Austin's sister is getting married, we are so excited for the festivities and family that we are going to be able to see! I will post some pictures after Saturday!
Hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th of July!
God Bless America!!

KEEPING BUSY...

Jun 24, 2008 09:14am (EST)

We've been keeping busy...We had adoption classes last week, what a lot of information to be given at one time! We scheduled our homestudy and profile meeting for the next couple of months and according to what they said, we should be in the book around December (meaning we could be chosen any time after that).
We had a wedding in northern MN this weekend, it was a lot of fun, but, a lot of driving too! Paul did pretty well, he was a crabby boy before the wedding, so I was somehow able to get him to fall asleep about 5 minutes before the wedding (Austin was an usher so he wasn't with us) and he slept through the whole thing, thank God! He loved dancing at the dance, he kept spinning in circles and dancing with the ladies, what a flirt!
This week is pretty mellow, I'm finishing up my online class and just hanging out at home. Next week is Austin's sister's wedding so we are getting pretty excited for that!
Next week is also the one year anniversary of my hysterectomy! I have been doing pretty good about that lately of not feeling sad, but, I know that everything happens for a reason and I was not meant to have more children. It is still tough. I was talking to my mother and sister in law and we were talking about if my sister in laws get pregnant or my good friend that I was pregnant at the same time with get pregnant how tough it will be....I know I'll be excited for them but I also know that in the back of my mind I will probably be thinking that "that should be me"....It's just tough, but I have to keep reminding myself that there is a bigger purpose for all of this, we don't know it now, but some day we will!
Thanks for reading my ramblings!
Here is a picture from the wedding this weekend!

FATHER/SON LOOK-A-LIKES!

Jun 17, 2008 12:11pm (EST)

Well, Paul has a cold! Stuffy nose, cough, etc....hopefully it will clear up before the wedding this weekend!
Not too much new around here, survived the weekend. It was super busy, but lots of fun! Austin and his dad were able to catch their limit two days in a row, so they were pretty happy. I was happy to have him back home last night though (so was Paul)!
Austin and Paul won the father/son look-a-like contest that we entered in town! They want to take a picture of them tonight for the paper this week, they won some prize, I'm not sure what yet....I assume we will find out tonight. After everything we went through to get Paul it just seems amazing that we were able to have the opportunity to enter the contest at all!
Hope everyone had a great Father's Day weekend!
