HAS IT REALLY BEEN THIS LONG?

Mar 19, 2008 04:59pm (EST)

I've been neglecting my blogging duties for the past several months. I can't believe it's been so long since I've last posted. The kids are doing great. Joseph is 14 months now, and he's running all over the house. It makes me nervous, because he completely ignores the big objects he should walk around. Instead, he tries to go through them. They win every time. Caitlin has decided that she wants to go to dance class. Michael's heart is broken. He wanted her to be his little hunting/fishing partner. He just doesn't understand the dance class concept yet. He will learn. I have faith in him. She's getting so big! We're finally able to buy her toddler sizes. A 3T to be exact. Of course, they fall off of her, but the length is just right. Thank to the Lord for adjustable waistbands! I can't believe she'll be five soon. Kindergarten is right around the corner, and it amazes me how fast time flies. Well, I think that will just about do it for my update. There's not much else going on around here. Things have been good and quiet. Well, as quiet as they can be with two busy bees! Take care, everyone, and I promise to update more often!

The pictures:

3. Joseph sporting his colors.

TOO LONG

Dec 04, 2007 07:41pm (EST)

It's been too long since I've last posted anything. Things have been busy and great! Both of my brothers are engaged and will be married next year. One will be married February 9th, and the other will be married on May 3rd. We're in for one busy year! Another big milestone is coming up, as well. Joseph will be a year old January 8th! I can't believe he's already 11 months! Time has flown by, but it's been wonderful! He's standing up on his own. He hasn't tried walking, but I know it won't be long. He has 7 teeth, too. He's biting everything within his reach! He's such a happy baby! Caitlin is getting big, too! She's been doing so well in preschool! She's learning to write her letters and numbers. She loves showing off her work! I'm so proud of her!

I'm still in Christmas denial. I have a love/hate relationship with this holiday. I remember, as a child, Christmas took forever to come. Now, it comes before I have a chance to recover from the previous year! Caitlin has told anyone who'll listen that she wants the Fur Real pony, Butterscotch. She LOVES horses! So, she's in for a huge surprise Christmas morning. My dad bought Butterscotch for her, and we're going to set it under the tree Christmas Eve. I can't wait to see her face when she walks in the room and sees her pony! I just know I'm going to cry! I'm such a sap! Well, I believe that's all for now. Take care! Oh, and I've posted a few of the Christmas pictures we had taken this year!

A SPECIAL TREAT!

Oct 23, 2007 07:50pm (EST)

This morning, Michael left the house at 3:30 a.m. to go hunting for the week. So, I had to get up and take Caitlin to school. I'm glad I did!! I got home around 8:00 a.m. and turned on the morning show for our local news station. Bobby Flay (Food Network) was on the show! I couldn't believe it! I love Bobby Flay!! He always comes up with the yummiest looking recipes! Well, they announced that he was going to have a book signing at the Books-A-Million near my house! I had to go! I bought the book, and I got to meet him! It was so exciting! He's such a great guy! I wanted to get his picture with Joseph, but he refused to hold him. He was scared of the possibility of dropping him. So, I held Joseph, and we had our picture taken. As Bobby was coming around the table, I whispered (or so I thought) that if Joseph did fall, it would be ok as long as he landed on his head! Hahaha! Everyone started laughing! I need to work on my whispering technique! I'm sure there was someone there who thought I was serious.

My mom is a huge fan of Bobby's. So, when it came time to have the book signed, I had him make it out to her. I thought it would be a wonderful Christmas gift. She lives in Georgia and has no clue that he was here today. She doesn't travel much since she's been sick. Her doctors are worried that too much moving around could be fatal since she was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. She's on blood thinners, but they're not helping. It's very scary, because one stretch or move in the wrong direction can cause it to break loose and kill her. We're all praying for the best, but my mom is hard-headed. She said she'd rather die doing something she loves then to sit around and die slowly. I can't blame her, but at the same time, that's my mom. She's just too young; she's only 47! I'll just continue praying. I've gotten quite good at it, and you can never pray too much. Take care, everyone! I'll talk to you all later!

A HUGE SUCCESS!

Oct 16, 2007 07:39pm (EST)

The Buddy Walk Saturday was unbelievable! We had over 50 walkers in our group, and we raised almost $8000!!! I'm so excited! It was incredible to have that many people come out to show their support. Joseph was the cutest boy in pink I've ever seen! Caitlin was just as adorable! Before the walk began, Cheriann gathered the children and played Duck, Duck, Goose. It was so funny! Since we walked on the beach, I let Caitlin take her socks and shoes off. Of course, once those came off, she HAD to go in the water. She was soaked! It was the best day I've had in quite a while! After the walk, Joseph had his picture taken with some of the girls from Hooters. They were drooling! Michael's Mom wanted a picture on her phone, so she told Dad to come over and take one. Well, he decided that he wanted to be in the picture! So, instead of taking one, he grabbed Joseph in got into the group of girls! Mom called him a sick old man! It was hilarious! I can't wait until next year! I'm trying to convince Michael to give up a day of hunting, but, so far, the country boy in him is winning! LOL! Take care, everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful week!

JOSEPH'S CHECKUP

Oct 09, 2007 05:06pm (EST)

Joseph had his 9 month well check today. I can't believe he's already 9 months! He's 28 1/2 inches and 19 lbs! He's such a big boy. It's so funny, too, because Caitlin is only 26 lbs! They're so different in size, but almost identical in attitude. Joseph has started showing his stubborn side now. It's really cute, but I know it won't be in a few years!

I can't wait for Halloween! Caitlin is going to be Jack Sparrow and Joseph is going to be The Hulk. They're going to be so adorable.

Caitlin has been doing so well in her preschool class. She got a certificate yesterday for "most improved." She had a little trouble in the beginning with writing her letters and numbers, but now, she's doing great! I can tell that all the praise we've been giving her has given her the confidence she needed to do well. I'm so proud of her!

Well, I hope everyone is doing well! Take care, and I'll talk to you all later!

BUDDY WALK

Oct 04, 2007 09:05pm (EST)

Well, this year is the third year that my family will be participating in the Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome. As most of you who have read my blogs know, my brother-in-law and his wife lost their daughter in 2005. She was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and passed away at 30 weeks. My family was devastated. Two weeks after our loss, we walked in our first walk. We wanted to honor her memory, and with that came a new respect for families and individuals whose lives have been touched by Down Syndrome.

I think what hurt me the most with the loss of my niece is knowing that she shared the same gestational age with Caitlin. Caitlin was born at 30 weeks, but survived. Makena never got the chance to take her first breath or see the love in her parents' eyes. Life can be so cruel sometimes, and it's hard not to question, but we must have strength. I think this is what our walking is all about. We're showing that life does go on after such a terrible loss. We know that Makena is smiling down on us every day.

Take care everyone! I'll post pictures of the walk for all to see!

TIME TO CATCH UP...

Sep 13, 2007 08:49pm (EST)

I can't believe I haven't posted an entry since July! It seems like I've been too busy to sit here lately. So much has happened since my last post. Caitlin turned 4! She's now in Pre-K and doing well. For her birthday this year, we took her to Disney World. She had the best time! She's still talking about it! We did Disney during the day, left to rest a bit, and then went back to the Pirate & Princess Party that evening. Caitlin dressed up as Cinderella. She looked so adorable. Everyone kept calling her "Princess." She even got to meet some princesses! She met Ariel, Jasmine, Belle, and Cinderella! When Cinderella asked her name, Caitlin whispered, "Princess." Cinderella smiled and said the name suited her. It was so sweet. Then, she twirled her around to show off her dress. It was precious. Michael, of course, had to offer his opinion of the princesses. He thought Ariel was the prettiest. I think it's just because she was wearing a bikini top and fins, but that's just me.

Joseph is getting so big! He's eight months now, and he's right around 20 lbs! He's an absolute chunk! He laughs all day long. He has four teeth now. He's still not crawling, but he does get around. He scoots backwards! It's so funny to watch! He'll get up on his knees, but then he slides back to his tummy and pushes himself backwards. I took him to a dermatologist because the rash on his cheeks hasn't gotten any better. He also has dry spots on his chest and feet. We found out it's Ecsema. The doctor said it may go away when he's older, but he can't be sure. So, Joseph gets an oatmeal bath every other day and lots of lotion daily. It doesn't seem to bother him. He especially loves getting the lotion, because he gets a mini massage along with it. I also think it's because he's naked, and he loves being naked!

Michael's parents are celebrating their 50th anniversary on the 14th of this month (tomorrow). We're throwing them a surprise party next Saturday. I've even ordered toasting flutes and a "nonwedding" wedding cake. If you're wondering what that is...lol, it's a wedding cake without the wedding cake price. It will be three tiered with cascading sugar orchids. I can't wait to see it all finished. Michael's mom loves orchids, so I know she'll be happy. I wonder what it will be like when Michael and I are at 50 years. I can see it now. I'll be bald from pulling all my hair out in frustration, and he'll still look 15 years younger than he really is. LOL!!

Well, I think that's enough catching up for now. I've started school again, so I'm relieved about that. I'll keep everyone posted on how it's going. I can't wait to graduate and start nursing. Take care, everyone!

A NEW TOY FOR JOSEPH

Jul 16, 2007 08:13pm (EST)

Joseph is getting so big, and he's now getting tired of the plain old swing and papasan. So, I decided it was time for a big boy toy. I bought him the Rainforest Jumperoo. I had seen it in several stores and tested how Joseph would like it. I actually put him in a display model! He acted as if he enjoyed the sounds and lights, so I purchased one Friday (13th). Joseph was asleep when we got home from Target, so I laid him in his crib while I assembled the jumper. I had to rearrange my living room in order for his swing and jumper to have a place! If that doesn't scream small house, I don't know what does! LOL. When I was putting the toy together, Caitlin was standing over me in anticipation. It was so funny. She kept telling me to hurry! She's so bossy! When the assembly was complete, Caitlin told me to put Joseph in, but he was still sleeping. So, she started going in his room every other minute to check on him. Finally, he woke up, and after the sleepiness wore off, we put him in the jumper. He immediately began jumping. He had the biggest grin on his face. The jumps were a little timid at first, but now he's a pro. He gets to going in that thing, and I swear he's going to bang his head on the ceiling! Michael said we have to take the jumper with us when we go and visit his parents in St. Augustine. Thank goodness it can be easily broken down and set back up. Joseph loves it so much, he even falls asleep in it. He just wears himself out. The other morning, he fell asleep, but continued to jump. One minute, he would look as if he was out cold, and the next, he was jumping like a little frog. The funniest part is he'd never open his eyes! His head would just bob around like a bobble head doll. Then, he'd stop and sleep for a few more minutes! I got a little bit of it on video! I could barely hold the camera still because I was laughing so hard. I would definitely have to recommend the jumper to other mothers who have a little busy bee. It's so fun to watch them go. Caitlin even stands in front and jumps along! Too cute!
