Share Posting Guidelines

Below are general guidelines about posting messages on SHARE. Very simply, use your good judgment and be considerate!

1. Get to know Share. Log on and familiarize yourself with the Share site. Check out the existing conversations and look for topics that interest you.
2. Participate and contribute. Once you are comfortable, introduce yourself (LINK) and participate regularly in topics of interest.
3. Stay on topic. This community focuses on prematurity, the NICU experience, and the March of Dimes. Be succinct and clear in your communication. Many discussions are very emotional. Be gentle with each other.
4. Be safe. Protect your privacy. Disclose only what you feel comfortable disclosing. The Share site is open to the public. Anyone can read the postings. Except for personal profile pages, Share is searchable by search engines. So post only what you feel comfortable being seen. Don't post your phone number or address. Be careful of how much detail you provide about your family. Do not post your personal e-mail address unless you are prepared to get more e-mail spam, as spammers "harvest" e-mails off the Web.
5. Listen carefully. If you read another's post and it causes you to react strongly, try reading it again from a different point of view. Pretend you are your best friend or a person on the street. Would they react as strongly as you did? In online communities, we can't see and hear the people who post messages. So we can't assume we fully understand what they're saying in their text-only messages.
6. Start smart for new discussions. Before you begin a new discussion, search to see if the site already has one on your desired topic. The search box is on the left side of the screen towards the top of all pages. Use clear subject headings for new discussions. Select words that will attract readers.
7. Follow the rules. Please do not post any of the following: Someone else's contact information without their permission, commercial advertisements, things for sale, fundraising requests, inflammatory material, or links to personal or professional Web sites with questionable content.
8. Cross the line? March of Dimes staff members and consultants moderate the Share site. Moderators remove inappropriate posts. Your account will be deleted if you repeatedly post unauthorized material.
9. Concerned? If you are concerned about something on the site, let us know. E-mail shareyourstory@marchofdimes.com and we'll look into it.
10. Be yourself! Share is great because of you!

Pretenda ser su mejor amiga o una persona en la calle. ¿Reaccionarían ellas en la forma que usted lo hizo? En las comunidades en línea no podemos ver ni oír a la gente que publica mensajes. Por lo tanto no podemos suponer que entendemos bien lo que están diciendo en sus mensajes sólo de texto.
    6. Sea inteligente con respecto a nuevas conversaciones. Antes de iniciar una nueva conversación, busque para ver si el sitio ya tiene una sobre su tema deseado. La casilla de búsqueda está al lado izquierdo de la pantalla, hacia arriba de todas las páginas. Utilice títulos de temas claros para las nuevas conversaciones. Seleccione palabras que atraigan a los lectores.
