CINCINNATI'S CHILDRENS HOSPITAL
WE SPENT FOUR MONTHS AT CINCINNATI'S CHILDRENS HOSPITAL AFTER MY PREEMIE, NIA, WAS BORN. SHE WAS A 29 WEEKER WHO DEVELOPED NEC WHILE IN THE NICU. I LOVE THE HOSPITAL, DOCTORS AND NURSES THAT MAKE UP THAT WONDERFUL PLACE. THEY TOOK GREAT CARE OF NIA AND SAVED HER LIFE. THEY WERE SUPPORTIVE AND ALLOWED ME TO PARENT NIA THE BEST I COULD IN THE HOSPITAL. I WILL FOREVER BE GREATFUL FOR ALL OF THE HARD WORK THEY PUT INTO GIVING NIA BACK TO ME.

My son Samuel was born Nov. 6, 2003 at Toledo Hospital. He was 26 weeks, weighed 1# 10 oz., 12 in. He is now 19 months old and doing very well. Not walking yet but soon. We were told he would not live because his lungs were so damaged, plus mulitple infections. How wrong they were!! He is not even on breathing treatments anymore. We are so lucky. Hello to anyone in or around Toledo. Connie and Samuel

My husband is from Toledo he thinks it is the best place on earth... Reminds me of Klinger from Mash. Anyway, Welcome to the message boards. We live in Atlanta but try to get to Toledo often to visit the family. Of course it is hard when you are on bed rest but once the baby comes we hope to make a trip!

Hello fellow Ohioans. My name is Melanie, my husband and I just lost our daughter Lillyana on February 26th after 3 years of trying to get pregnant. My water broke at 18 weeks and I carried her till 23 weeks and 6 days before I went into labor. She lived for 5 amazing days in the NICU at Metrohealth Medical Center. Those were the best 5 days of our lives. We miss our little angel so much. I am so grateful for SHARE to be able to talk to other families who have experienced similar situations. Melanie

Melanie,
I am so sorry to hear that you lost your baby. I know it must be very hard for you. I have a 24 weeker. she was born 24 weeks to the day and they did not think she would make it either. Her heart stopped at one point. If you ever need someone to talk to please feel free to email me. I am from Bellevue. I had my daughter at the Cleveland CLinic NICU. I know a lot of nurses that worked at Metro and CCF. I bet they took care of both our babies. Best of luck to you . My prayers are with you.

Re: Ohio
Courtney, Thank you for your kind words, your encouragement really means alot to me. Where exactly is Bellevue? I have heard of it before. Did the doctors say why you went into labor so early? If you want to talk through e-mail that is fine. You can e-mail me or we can exchange conversations through here. Melanie

Melanie,
Sorry i have not checked the posts in a while. Bellevue is between Norwalk and Fremont. It is also between Cleveland and Toledo.
I went into labor early because i had an imcompent cervix. I was one centimeter dilated at 22 weeks they did a cerclage and it only held for about 10 days. I delivered Emily at 24 weeks. Feel free to email me anytime cbrogers5454@yahoo.com. I would love to hear from you.

Mom to Jimmy (26 weeker born Mother's Day 2005) |
|
|
Toledo Mom
Hi, I had my son (Jimmy) at The Toledo Hospital on Mother's Day (May 8, 2005). He has been home for 3 weeks now. He is doing amazingly well for a 26 weeker. We are on oxygen for feedings, but that is really about it. In the early days, we made it through a Grade 2 IVH, PDA ligation surgery, and a full month on the vent. Now our big concern is getting him to gain weight. He will undergo surgery for craniosynostosis (where the soft spot closes too soon) next month. We managed to make it through our 86 day NICU stay with NO infections - absolutely amazing since I delivered after 3 weeks of hospital bedrest for chorioamnionitis (an infection in the amniotic sac). I would love to meet other mom's with extremely premature infants. My husband is from the Sandusky area (Huron/Berlin Heights). I am from metro-Detroit. We currently live in south Toledo. See Jimmy's website for more:

Anyone in the Cincinnati-Dayton area?
Hi. I'm new here. I was just wondering if there's anyone in the Cincinnati-Dayton area. I live in Middletown. I moved here from Texas. I've been in the area 5 1/2 years. I have a 3 1/2 year old little boy. He was born full-term, but we had some complications with the birth. We're currently in the process of having him tested for Autism. I was wondering if they still have the walks, and if there's one anywhere in the area.

new to ohio
My son Ethan was born on April 22, 05 at 27wks in Newport News, VA. We had a great experience for the most part at the hospital he was in. We moved to the North Canton area in July. My parents are here, and I lived in New Phila 6yrs ago. It's nice to be "home." Ethan's doing well, never had to be on oxygen or heart monitor. He does have stage 2 ROP in both of his eyes and goes to Akron Children's every 2 weeks for checkups. The staff there are really great too. I'd love to meet other moms and former premies in the area. Feel free to email me. I work part time, but am home most of the time.

Stephanie- I hope you see this! We miss seeing you guys too! Sometimes I think about our NICU friends and wonder how they're doing, but I can only picture Trenton and Simon as the tiny little guys they were when you guys went home. Clara is doing absolutely wonderful! She's almost 12 pounds now and will be 8 months old a week from today.
I'm sending you guys a card with our contact info in it. I hope I still have the right address. And when we were at follow up clinic last month and made our next appointment I saw that Trenton was scheduled right after Clara so hopefully we'll see you there!
If you get this email me some pics of Trenton.

Lima, Ohio Area WalkAmerica
Hi, my name is Holly Bowersock and I am the family team coordinator for our walk in Lima, Ohio. Let me tell you a little bit about my connection to the March of Dimes and the reason I am participating in WalkAmerica. My son, Jonathon, was born at 24 weeks. He weighed 1 lb. 3 oz. and spent the first five months of his life at Columbus Children's Hospital. Jonathon is know a very happy and energetic 3 year old with minor health complications. We are thankful for all of the research that the MOD has done over the years and that is why we continue to support their prematurity campaign.
My goal, as the family team coordinator, is to get more family teams registered and participating in our local Walk on April 29. If you are from the Lima area and would like to help support the March of Dimes give the local office a call at 1-419-534-3600 to get registered. You can also contact me by e-mail at bowersock3@ohiolink.net
I hope to hear from you soon!!

Trying to start support group in Canton area
Hey everyone! My former 26 weeker is now 16 months old and doing GREAT!!!!! I have a friend who recently gave birth to a 27 weeker who is also doing well. We're both shocked at the lack of support for parents of preemies or babies in the NICU at Mercy and Aultman. We want to get a support group started. If anyone would be interested in participating please email me at clarasmommy020805@yahoo.com

New to the Dayton Area
Hi Ohio... My name is Tracy. I moved to Ohio last year from St. Louis. WOW it's taken me a whole year to get adjusted to life out here. My story is long but short details... My daughter Katlyne was born at 23 1.2 weeks and lived for 110 days before passing away in our arms. Our son Casey was born 2 years ago at 33 weeks. He spent 10 days in a step down NICU before being able to come home. Both were born early due to Preeclampsia (lucky me)> I am finally recovered from damaged done to me and Casey is well and healthy.

Welcome to Share Tracy!
I am Amy and I live in North Central Ohio. I'm about 2 hours from you.
I'm so sorry to hear about Katlyne but so elated that Casey is doing so well. (I love both of those names by the way.)
Please continue to post on Share and if you need any thing, let me know!

NE Ohio
Glad to hear your home and doing well. I am located in Alabama and we use to live up in Alliance. We had our oldest up at Mercy back in 2000. Our youngest we had down here in Alabama which was 36 weeks and she went up to UAB for a month. She was early and still weighed 8lbs and 3ozs. At that time she was the 2nd to the biggest the NICU had at that time.

O-H-I-O
Attention Ohio!!! I just wanted to say hi, welcome you all to Share and invite you to participate in every aspect that you feel interested in within Share and the March of Dimes. There are so many ways you can get involved and I hope that you stick around... make yourselves at home and if your feeling really good, stop in at the Cafe and have a drink.
I'm in North Central Ohio and I'm really hoping to connect with other families from Ohio. I'd love to put Ohio back on the March of Dimes Map.
God Bless,
Amy

Anyone with a preemie at Beeghly in Boardman?
I had my daughter at 29 weeks, and she is our little miracle. She's doing wonderful, although still in an isolette she is beating all the odds. I was just wondering if anyone else in my area was going through this too, it is often comforting to have someone to talk to when sitting in the NICU.

Miami Valley Hospital
Our daughter was born at 26 weeks, and stayed in the NICU at MVH March 25, 2006-June 9, 2006. She is now a healthy, happy 13 month old! We LOVE the staff at the NICU, and have maintained a relationship with her nurses.

Elaria's story
Hi, my name is Reba, and our baby, Elaria was born on 04/28/98 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. 2 1/2 months early, our Preemie weighed in at 1 pound, 5 ounces. I was diagnosed with Toxemia / Preeclampsia which in effect forced Elaria to come early. I know it was 9 years ago, but when I started reading some stories, it brought it all back. But just to let you know, she is fine and healthy with no problems except she seems to think the world revolves around her...

MVH
My son was in MVH for 2 weeks from 08-29-06 to 09-10-06 until he was moved to Children's Dayton for NEC. We were at Dayton Children's and Cincinnati Children's. We were everywhere. Our home though was Dayton. That is where we became family. I wasn't too impressed with Cincinnati but, that is my own opinion others have different ones. Dayton made the last days of his life the best they could be and indulged us to no end on helping to make memories for JT. Love ya all up there. Lisa, Retta, Lula, Colleen, Vicky, Kerri, Lisa J, Gena, all of you. I miss you all so much. Thanks for taking such good care of my baby. And loving him as your own.

MVH NICU Grad and Current NICU resident
Hello there! My first son was in the MVH NICU in 2005 for 71 days. He was born at 26 weeks and weighed in at 2lbs. My second son is a current resident of the MVH NICU born at 33 +5 on March 5th. MVH NICU feels like a second home to us and many of the nurses are the same as when my first son was born even though the NICU is completely new. Welcome everyone from the Dayton area to the Share site.

Mom to Michaila and angel Alexandria (30 weekers) and Nadia (37 weeker) |
|
|
Hi Everyone! I notice it's been a long time since anyone posted here in Ohio. My name is Kristie and I am a mom to twins born at 30 weeks. Michaila spent 60 days in the NICU at Akron Children's Hospital. We lost Alexandria to NEC when she was 18 days old. That was more than 7 years ago and today I am the March of Dimes NICU Family Support Specialist at Akron Children's. I just wanted to remind everybody that it is March for Babies season and let you know that if you had a baby in Akron Children's we are creating a team of NICU Grads for the Akron walk. We would love to have you join the Akron Children's Grad Club at http://www.marchforbabies.org/team/t1839917. I'd also love to hear from anyone else out there from Ohio! Have a great day! Kristie
