hi, my name is sarah and i'm a 27 yr old new mother. everett was born at 28 wks 2 days, at 2 lbs 10 oz, and now he's 34 wks at 4 lb 1 oz. i had hoped to have a natural homebirth but got the exact opposite. on good days, i believe it was the Great Mystery's way of teaching me surrender, acceptance, and patience. on bad days, I wonder if I'll ever be able to have a full term baby, or a VBAC. BUT, every day I am concious that my son is a MIRACLE!

Hi, my name is Amanda and I'm 29 years old. I had our first baby, Patrick, on May 1, 2012 at 25 weeks 1 day. I was in the hospital on bedrest for 8 days before he was born. I had severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome, but still felt completely fine, but the doctors decided he needed to come out before I got sicker. I had had a completely normal and easy pregnancy before then. Patrick lived for 37 days in the NICU before he couldn't fight anymore, and passed away on June 7. I am still having a pretty rough time...

Welcome to Share. We have so many new moms lately, I can't keep up with everyone.
Amanda, I am so very sorry that Patrick didn't make it. Losing your first child, or any child, is heartbreak that cannot be expressed in words. I hope that you have support and are finding moments of peace as you mourn your son.
To all the NICU moms: Hang in there! Wishing you and your little ones all the best.

Hello and welcome to share Amber. I am so sorry for the loss of your baby. I wish no one had to find this site due to the heartache they are going thru. It has been over 2.5 yrs since I lost my son and while the pain has eased it is till there with me everyday. It feels like my grief is my last link to my son.
I have found so much support thru this site and I hope you can as well

Hi Amber I am so sorry for the your baby. I lose my little girl on May 23. Logging onto share and meeting others is such a big help. Many of the people I have meet have been amazing sharing their stories. I was suppose have Ava in July 12 via c section. I am a mommy to 3 wonderful little boys. Our oldest, Bradley,is 5 yrs of age and Sam, our middle child, is 2 yrs of age. My youngest, Ethan, was born June 12th and was a NICU baby. He went to the NICU initially for respiratory problems but the doctors soon discovered he has a heart defect and is also being tested for genetic abnormalities, amongst other things. All of this is new to my husband and I, as we had no clue that something was wrong with our precious one, despite 4-D US and prenatal testing. We recently just got home and the last few weeks are just now sinking in for me. Ethan has a road ahead of him but we are so glad to finally be home. God has blessed us throughout this difficult time by showing us endless support from friends, church family, and our family. My prayers go out daily to all of the sweet babies who remain in the NICU, babies that have been in the NICU, and their families.

Hi All, I'm married with one son, Emmanuel. Manny was born just shy of full term, but after birth asphyxia was diagnosed with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (experienced seizures, organ failure, apnea, etc). We spent 5 weeks in various NICUs in Alberta. While he wasn't premature, there aren't many support groups around for the full termers who spend time in NICU, so I thought I would join here. Manny has been home with us for about 5 months now, and he is doing GREAT. When he was 5 hours old, they transferred him to a tertiary NICU and kept him on a cooling mat that lowered his body temperature by a few degrees. He was sedated for three days, but little by little he started meeting his milestones. My husband and I have actually started a non-profit that supports and encourages NICU families. It's hard to understand what the NICU experience is like, unless you've been there. I visit with families and take in baskets (blanket, gift card, book) and coffee (including decaf!). We found that one of the hardest things was not being able to hold our son for awhile, and feeling like he was more of the nurses' baby than our own. We also had no idea what to expect when we were first admitted, and I think it would have helped if someone had explained the stages (breathing first, then feeding) that babies go through. If anyone is interested in sharing their story, it would be a privilege for me if you would take our NICU Needs survey. I want to hear from other parents on what parental needs were unmet during their NICU time. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/B63HVFH Thank-you for listening!

Hi Sarah,
Congratulations on the birth of your son!
It's tough when we don't get the perfect birth experience we were hoping for. All I can say is that our miracle boys are such blessings, and our experiences will make us appreciate every milestone they meet.
I'm sure your next birth experience will be different, but even if it's not, you are a great Mommy and your son is lucky to have you.

Hi Amanda,

The pain of loss doesn't disappear, but healing does come. There is a time when the pain isn't as sharp, and you can smile again.
Thinking of you and your family,

Hi Shannon, Thank-you for the support you give to other Moms. NICU and loss is such a hard road, and no one really understands it unless they've been through it. My husband and I lost twins in 2010 and then our little boy was born with HIE because of asphyxia last year. My husband and I have started a parent support group in Alberta where we visit with NICU parents, share their fears (or happiness at the milestones reached), and bring in baskets (blanket, gift card, book) for the parents. I think it helps parents to know a little of what to expect. Would you consider completing our anonymous and confidential NICU Needs survey? It would be a privilege for me if we could hear from you. I want to hear from other parents on what parental needs were unmet during their NICU time. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/B63HVFH Best,
Callie

Hello. My name is Tasha and I am new to the March of Dimes Share site. I am from Indiana and I have been married to my husband, Justin, for 5 years. We suffered our first loss in 2009 with a miscarriage at 12 weeks. In 2010, we welcomed our daughter into the world at 21 weeks. She survived for one hour. I just wanted to stop in and say hello and extend my sincere wishes to the other moms here for love, support, strength and healing at whatever stage you are in. Thanks!

Hello my name is Bianca Scott, i am the mother of a 11month old Gracie and i just gave birth to my son Noah July 24 2012, he was premature, delivered at 33weeks. He weighed 3pd 12oz and was 16 in long. It's been a rocky road here and having to deal with that because i had a perfect labor and delivery with my daughter and she wasnt premature or never had any problems and now i'm having to deal with this. Its been very emotional and tough for me to deal with also; mentally and physically.
My son for the first two days they had him on a respirator to help him breathe and just today, July 27th 2012 they took him off of it and are letting him breathe on his own which has turned out really good.
He does have a problem with the left side of his lung, so they are trying to lay him more up on that side to were it is expanding more and opening.
He is doing really good so far.

My name is katie, my husband and I lost our twins less then a week ago. While I was only 12 weeks along, I am completley devastated, I had begun to imagine their lives with us and plan and get excited. I had no signs/symptoms of any problems. I went in for a routine ultrasound and the babies had no hearbeats, the doc said they died within a couple days of each other, and he was able to tell us they were identical twins. I went in for a D&C 2 days later and I feel empty, angry, guilty, sad...I am hoping with time and support I will feel like myself again and one day be ready to try again.

Hi Katie and welcome
I am so sorry to hear about your twins. We lost our little boy Mason at 23 weeks just last week. Yes you are going to be on a roller coaster of grief but you need to know it is not your fault. I know we are going to get through this, and I know you are going to get through as well simply because we made it thus far. There is always hope. Also always remember you are not alone.

Hey everyone. My name is Amanda I am only 22 yrs old. My daughter Gianna was born on April 22nd at only 27weeks. Her birth weight was 1lb 11oz she's my tiny miracle. We were in the NICU for 90 days, long but worth it experience. We brought her home 2 days after her due date which was July 17th. She's now 4 months with an adjusted age of 1 month. But she's thriving already rolling over and trying to hold that head up. Proud mommy!

Hello everyone! My name is Mindy and I'm a mommy of three. Gavin my oldest was a NICU baby. His due date was July 2, 2007. On April 22 I started having horrible pains in my sides and kept going back and forth to the doctor the whole week after. Then the weekend came and I turned yellow, so I was transferred to St. Mary's in Evansville IN. My doctor there ran tests and confirmed that I had Hellp Syndrome (Acute fatty liver). On April 30, 2007 my little man came into this world via emergency c section. He was 2lbs, 12.4oz and 15 1/4inches long, then his weight dropped to 2lbs 8oz. Gavin was in the NICU for almost two months. It was the hardest part of my life I'd say. After being released from the hospital I didn't get to see him until the weekends:( I lived 1 1/2 hrs away from the hospital. But now five years later Gavin is a tall and healthy little boy who just started kindergarden and is playing football:)

Hi,
I'm Jessi, Mama of Coral and Max who were born at 26 weeks in march of 2012. I was on bed rest for 17 days prior, but we now know that the toxoplasmosis wasn't gonna let us continue. Coral came home just before her July 1 due date, but Max got hit much harder by the bugs and is still in the NICU with a trach and on a vent. I'm looking forward to connecting with other NICU mamas and papas - especially anyone else who has one at home and one still not.

Hello to all, I would like to introduce myself as the Father of Savanna Louise. My wife and I are currently in St. Mary's NICU. Her water broke at 22 weeks and 4 days . We r now 22 weeks and 6 days. Things are tuff and she is in a lot of pain ... Due contractions. She is currently on Magnesium and Indocin ( sorry for misspellings ). Contractions didn't start until this morning about 3:30 and it they have went from every 3 minutes to now they are at about 15 minutes apart. Oddly her cervix completely closed. Doctors said her body confused with no sac it things labor should follow, but glad that she (Savahna) sn't ready yet. Holding on tight to every hour, every day and then every week we stay pregnant.

Hello! My name is Kassandra and I'm new to the share page. My son Izaiah was born 16 weeks early (24.1) on May 2, 2012. He was born weighing 1lb 7oz. He has a few medical problems, but all have been resolving as of late. The only problem we are having is that he has chronic lung disease, but a mild case and he tends to breathe fast. So it makes it very hard for us to get him to take a bottle. He is on oxygen at the moment, but we are hoping to wean him off before he gets discharged. We have been been in here 140 days and we are hoping that by the end of this month he will be coming home. :] Just wanted to say hello and introduce ourselves. :]

Hello. My name is Annakate and I was born premature at 28 weeks and was 3lbs 6oz. I just want to share that there is hope. I was born with underdeveloped lungs and stayed in the hospital for about a month. I was on a "breathing machine" constantly and had pneumonia and RSV before I was one but now I just have a slight hearing problem in my right ear. I am now 16 and I am in band, choir, school clubs and take AP classes like the other children. Looking at me you would never know I was premature and I hope and pray that other children who are born premature can say the same thing when they're my age.

Mommy to a teenager! Wow, where did the time go? |
|
|
Hello, and Welcome to all the new parents. I'm not new, but have been gone from this page for quite a while, seems that things in my life tend to overwhelm me and I never make it to this place.
My name is Deborah and my daughter was born 13 weeks premature on November 10, 1999. Her name is Eleanor~Rose and when she was born she weighed 405 grams, which is about 14.3 ounces, she spent 108 days in two NICUs, she was fortunate to not need any surgeries and although she deveolped some learning disabilities as she got older, she is doing well.
She will be turning 13 in a little under 2 months. I can't believe that I will be the mother of a teenager, it seems impossible, but she will be one. Somedays I think back to when she was born and it seems like it was just yesterday, especially when it gets close to her birthday. She is now in 7th grade and she is doing her best in all her classes. Her one worry about being in the 7th grade is that she now has to dress for PE everyday until she graduates from high school. LOL! But she will get over it.
She is still in her Spanish and Folklorico Dance group, they just performed at Disney CA, and will be going back in October, they are performing at the L. A. County Fair this Saturday, and will also be going to their yearly performance at Disneyland in November, along with some church carnivals coming up in October. She loves it.
I am going to try my best to be on her regularly so I can meet new parents, things have been kind of hectic for us here at home, but I am just letting the Lord watch over me and he's been faithful to me, so take care and have a very blessed day. Here are a few pics of my daughter.

Hello, my name is Jay, and my wife's name is Christine. We became the proud parents of a baby boy less then 3 days ago. Baby Michael was born 10 weeks premature. Christine was discharged from the hospital yesterday and it was very emotional for her having to drive home without our baby. We are on our way back to the hospital now but I know sharing our story as it happens will be helpful to us, maybe even to others going through the same situation. Until next time, take care and many blessings.

I wish I had found this message board when my son was born. He was born 9 1/2 weeks early, and we spent most of the holidays back and forth to the NICU. I just gave birth to my daughter a few months ago and luckily she was 35 weeks- close enough to term that she was able to come home with me. Micheal's Dad- I read your post, and I am so sorry that you and your wife have to go through this, but be thankful- you and I are some of the lucky ones that our boys made it as far as they did. My son is a bouncing almost two year old who has very little delays- he just doesn't seem to WANT to talk =) I have full faith that your little one will surprise you and meet all of his milestones in record timing!

Hello. My name is Sarah and my hubby is David, our first child is Aiden.
I had my newest little boy Axel at 25 weeks 5 days gast. on September 20th 2012.
I was diagnosed with pPROM after several tests. I was on bed rest for a week and 3 days and gave birth by emergency csection.
I am glad I found this site, people around me have a hard time relating to me and they dont really give me the support we need.
The nurses at the hospital are amazing and so is my husband.
We are trying to hard to learn everything we can about our new little boy and trying to stay possitive.

Hello, I just wanted to share my story, and maybe help some mothers' that have infints in the Nicu now.
My Son was born 6 months ago. I was induced as to complications with my pregnancy, and he was exactly 34 weeks along. With boys usually they do not always know if the lungs are developed, and the doctors were very worried about that. Usually 34 weeks though the child is pretty healthy with minor complications. My son was a little different though, because he was severly underweight when he was born. He was very small for a 34 week baby, at 3 lbs 12 oz. The Nicu is a very scary time, with lots of uncertinty and worry. The doctors had figured he would have to stay in the Nicu for at least a month to gain the weight he needed, as well as become healthy.
Well, he proved everyone wrong in the Nicu, and he stumped doctors. His lungs were just fine upon being born! He was a natural at eating bottles (breast feeding was a lot harder to do) and after only 15 days, half the time the doctors thought he would have to stay he was released (on my little sister's birthday too!) He was still very small at just over 4 lbs, but he went from not being able to regulate his tempature, to doing just fine.
6 months later at his checkup, we got some astounding news, they are worried about his weight gain! He went from underweight to almost overweight. He is a very cute chunk though. He makes me so happy that he is doing so well so fast from being born in such unfortunate circumstances.
I know that the NICU can seem like an eterninty. I was there, every time I had to leave my son to go home, I would just ball for hours, almost until it was time to go back. I was fortunate that he is my only child right now, because you mothers' with other children you have to try and stay strong so that they don't worry. I don't think I would have been able to do so, and I give you mothers' extra props. The NICU is a trying place that really can test your faith, and everything around you. If anyone ever wants to chit-chat, please let me know. It's so scary, but just remember that it is the best place for your child, they are doing everything they can to make sure your little one is happy and healthy as can be.

Hi. My name is Catie. My daughter isn't a baby anymore. In fact, she turned 3 in June and started preschool last month.
I recently felt the pull to get active in the March of Dimes when I heard on ad on the radio for a fundraiser that made me cry, because I know what it's like to have a tiny baby.
I was at my 34 week check up when I was told I had preeclampsia and I needed to get to the hospital right away. That night and the next day, I was given steroid shots to help her lungs develop. The head of the NICU came in to talk to me and told me her breathing would our biggest hurdle, and to be safe, expect her to stay until her due date.
I delivered a small, but perfectly healthy baby girl the next afternoon via c-section. She weighed in at only 3lbs 10oz, and she was screaming the moment they pulled her out of me. Still to this day it is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. She needed to learn to regulate her own body temperature and how to eat before she could go home, and then began the waiting game.
She was only in for 13 days, but it felt like a lifetime. When I learned her roommate had been in for three months, I was incredibly grateful. We left the hospital at 4lbs 4oz and still 4 weeks before she had been due.
We have had absolutely no complications and she is excelling.
We are so lucky and I know we owe everything to the March of Dimes for funding the research for the shots I received that boosted my daughter's lung development and helped her grow so healthy at such a small size.

Hello Everyone, My name is Misty and I am new to this site. My fiancé and I unexpectedly welcomed our first son Cayden James into this world on May 7, 2012. I was 23 weeks and 4 days pregnant. On the morning Cayden was born I simply woke up with some stomach cramping, I had just assumed it was something I ate for dinner and really didn't think much of it. I got up to use the rest room and my water broke on the bathroom floor. Two hours later Baby Cayden was welcomed into this world by emergency C-Section. He weighted 1lb 1oz and was 11 inches long. It is unknown what caused me to go into labor that morning. Our pregnancy was about as planned as you can be and I had done all of my research. I went to every prenatal appointment, had 5 ultrasounds, and no complications. We had actually just begun to tell our family and friends that we were expecting. Today marks our 150th day in the NICU and yesterday Cayden had his 5th surgery. He has had about every preemie issue possible: IVH, Hydrocephalus, NEC, CLD, PH, ROP, and the list goes on. Cayden has fought long and hard to be with us today. He is a true inspiration and although we do not know what the future holds, I couldn't be more proud of my little man and am so honored to be his mother. I was excited to find this site and reach out to other mothers who are going through this NICU journey, I will be the first to tell you that it isn't easy. It is an experience that other's cannot relate to unless they have gone through it themselves. I look forward to chatting with you all about our journey and please feel free to ask me any questions you like about my experience.

Hi
My name is Roxana. Grace is my precious baby. Girl. On January 21st we learned that we were expecting. At 12 weeks I suffered a sub chorionic hematoma between the uterus and the placenta. By a miracle our baby survived that massive bleeding. At week 13 my water broke. I told my doctor and he dismissed the complain, he said that everything was normal. At. Week 18 we found out that my water broke a month ago. Doctor said that. There was nothing they could do, he recommended termination. We declined termination because we let God decide the outcome. Nobody will kill my baby.
Against doctyor's adviced I decided to go on bed rest and drink lots of water. I changed to a proliferation doctor. My baby had just less than 1% chance to survive, but this new doctor had a plan. If I gigot to 23 weeks he was sending me toy the hospital. With lots of friends, family, strangers in different parts of the world and churches of different denominations praying, I managed to stay pregnant.
At week 23 I was admitted to the hospital. Doctors there kept telling me that my baby was going to die before, at or right after birth, and if it survived she would have extensive. Medical conditions. She could be deformed, organ systems would not work because there was barely any amniotic fluid throughout the pregnancy. You need amniotic fluid to develop the lungs. Without it the lungs will not develop, and the baby will not breathe, therefore she would die. There was nothingg anyone could do. I kept my head high and claimed Ggod as our refuge and help. When doctors cannot do anything Ggod can do anything.
I spent the following 6 weeks in prayer and hope that God would act to the amazement of the doctors.
By week 29 on July 18, the final doctor payed me a visit. He sent me a counselor. To prepare us for the death of our baby. On July 19 labor began by 11:00pm, I was in the OR. At 12:15am, Grace was born. She didnot breathe, didnot move, all she had was a heartbeat. She was entubated and she survived.
To the amazement of the doctors there was no damage on any of her body systems, she was completely normal, no deformities, no stiffness, no brain bleeding...
It was declared a miracle. She spent two months in the NICU and came home two weeks ago. She is doing everything. A newborn is suppose to do.
Miracles do happen!
Believe, pray and trust in God. Put your trust in Him and wait patiently for Him to act.

Heelo Kennedys Mom. My baby was born premature at 27weeks and 5 days. He was in the hospital for 95 days. I wish I wouldv'e asked more questions been more involved but my emotions prevented me from being closer to him those 95 days. Try to be with the baby and as involved as much as you can. Ask the nurses to feed or change your baby, sometimes we wait for them to ask us and we miss bonding. Take it one day at a time! And congratulations!!

Helo I am new to this website. My name is Vanessa Diaz. I have a 7 yr old Ivan who...
Hello Vanessa and welcome to Share!
Congratulations on Tristan! Remember, it is okay to cry. Somedays I feel as I've been robbed of my daughters infant days as she was in the hospital for months. She was 1lb, 1oz and 26 weeks. Due after Christmas and came in September! Shock! Disbelief! I cried literally for months. Everyday. Every single day. It's okay. For me, something just clicked one day, a nurse asked me why I was crying and I replied with more sobs. She reassured me my daughter will be okay. It's like she flipped a light switch in my head and I just stopped crying. I still cried, but not every single day. Things got better and they will for you too.
I'll be praying for you in the upcoming months,

Hello everyone!
My son Carter Andrew was born at 34 weeks at 5.5 (labor began at 30 but was able to be stopped). He was my second so we weren't expecting an early arrival. My first was barely f/t at exactly 37 weeks (5 lbs 13 ounces). Carter Andrew was unable to breath on his own and his suck swallow reflex had not developed. He had one treatment of surfactant (sp?) for lung development and was on oxygen for 5 days. We spent 7 days in the NICU and were released. He does still have some problems such as Acid Reflux and currently has hit a flat line on his growth curve at 11lbs 8 ounces.

Hello all,
I wish I would have come across such a wonderful place to meet people going through similar issues when I first gave birth. I have a little miracle...his name is Owen and he was born at 28 weeks 1lb 11oz. I was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome/ severe preeclampsia. We spent 84 days in the NICU battling lung issues, low birth weight and NEC just to name a few. He is now almost 5 months 2 corrected (2 months out of the NICU) and finally weaning off of oxygen. He is getting stronger each day.

Hello, My name is Amy and my wonderful son's name is Dominic. Dominic is now 22 months ( corrected age 20 months) and has had quite the journey thus far. in Feb. 2011 my water broke one morning this was my 4th child and I was a repeat c-section so I knew this was serious. After 3 days of being in the labor and delivrery they could not stop my contractions and I deliverd at 27 weeks. Dominc was born at 3 pounds and in the nicu for 31 days. The hospital he was in and the town we lived in was about 30 min away so I would take everybody to work and school (we only had 1 car) take my 4 yr old to the nicu and spend the day with my son. I look back and wonder how I did it fresh from a c-section but the bond of a mother and her child is undenyable. Dominic has been diagnosed with PVL and right sided cerebal palsy it is scary at times but I continue to pray and appreciate the blessings God has given our family.

Hi Kayla!
So glad you came to Share, it really is an amazing place! I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet boys, I wish that their loss isn't what brought you to us. Those moments in the hospital get so easily etched into your mind, reliving every second as if it is just happening. I'll be keeping you close in my thoughts in the days leading up to the first anniversary of their loss.
Amy: Hi and welcome to Share! I'm so sorry for the difficulties that Dominic is facing and look forward to reading more about him!

Hello Share members! My name is Crystal. I am a 27 year old who just gave birth to my first...
Hey Crystal,
My name is Jaime and I just gave birth to my son Max at 25 weeks, he was also due in january 2013. I had a similar story, only I had no sypmtoms of pre eclampsia and just started seizing, they did an emergent c section with me and sent him straight to the NICU( i was intubated and sent to the adult ICU). Max was born Oct 21 at 255am. weighing in at 1 lb 7oz. He too is doing really well.
I don't know about you, but our first 30 days have been a rollercoaster, and finding this community has been a great blessing.
I send many prayers out to you and your family.

Hello I am Danyetta Blackmon. I was pregnant st 26weeks. I was in labor for 7 hours not knowing at church. God had his hands all around and on me & my baby boy. Darnell Jarmaine Blackmon was born December 31, 2011, at 26 weeks. He came 1 week after my father Rev. Dr. Donlad Blackmon past. He came into this world breathing on his own. He was named as University at Birmingham NICU CHAMP. Questions were asked like" How is he breathing on his own?" I simply answered by saying BIG GOD is doing this. He never had a breathing tube. Darnell only has minor health problems. He is known as My Peanut. Darnell is my miracle/angel sent from heaven.

My name is Isabelle, I'm 28 and I gave birth to my beautiful twin boys Ian and Eli on November 20th 2012 at 24 1/2 weeks. Both of them are doing fairly well. Ian a bit better than Eli. Eli was the donor for the twin to twin transusion which caused me to go into labor. Eli was transfered to Children's hospital on day 8 for possible surgery on his bowel. But the lil guy is such a fighter that a surgery wasn't needed. At this time they are in 2 diffrent hospitals ind 2 different NICUs, but both are stable. My husband and I are very blessed and continue to be amazed by the strength these two boys have. I'm praying everyday for their strength and fight to keep going. They are my little angels.

Hello Danyetta and welcome to Share! I would love to hear more about your little miracle boy and how he is doing now, sounds like he is a little fighter! And coming up on one year old too!
Stacy
Hello Isabelle and welcome to Share! Congratulations on the birth of Eli and Ian! I'm glad to hear that they are both currently stable and hope that they continue to make great strides forward in coming home eventually. That must be so tough having them in two separate hospitals right now and having to split your time between the two of them. I hope that they're able to be transferred to the same hospital soon, please keep us updated when you can!

Hello.
I am 35 yrs old.. just married to my best Friend.. I was 27 Wks pregnant of our first little boy... in spite of being taking insulin for type 2 diabetes, all exams and ultrasounds looked normal.. I started having contractions and little bleeding so I decided to go to L&D just for peace of mind, I was admitted that same day because of being considered High risk. I stayed for 3 days took steroids shots and was discharged.. 2 days later I woke up with contractions every 3 minutes, drank lots of water and lay down all day hoping it would go away, then I started bleeding and in the middle of the night I decided it was better just to come and get checked again... I was low in fluid and 3 cm dilated.. they took me in again.. 3 days in the hospital with contraction every 3 - 5 minutes, taking magnesium and antibiotics our little boy decided it was time for him to be born.. so on Dec 4th 2012 at 5:55AM Liam cried for the first time.. 27 weeks 3 days gestational age.. 2lbs 5oz and 14" long... Now he is in the NICU and he will probably be there for about 3 months.
This is just the beginning of our long journey of living every day the day to day of NICU and I come here looking for encouragement from these very brave Mommies who have and still do endure this daily heart aching task that is to see our little baby attached to the tubes and machines and trying to be positive everyday longing for the day we will take him home.
Much Love to all.

HI - I wanted to reach out to you and let you know you are not alone in your thoughts and your pain. I was pregnant with twins , a boy and a girl. I lost my daughter at 23 weeks and my son Damien was born at 27 weeks weighing 1 lb 5.5 oz. It was such a hard time to be happy and sad at the same time. I did not find many people who could understand my situation and felt lost for a long time. Damien spent 151 days in the NICU and is now a healthy 1 and a half year old. If you would like to talk, have any questions, or just need someone.... my email is tdobson1@psdnet.org
Take care,

Hi my name is merri. I'm an old timer here but it has been a very long time since I've posted. My son, buddy, was born f/t on feb 18,2006. He was born with severe noisy/strioder breathing but the drs kept saing he was fine. Well I had to get ugly and demand some answers. At 6 months old he was officially diagnosed with trachoe/larngo malacia, asthma, gerd. Since birth his life has been a rollercoaster. He has had lots of pnemonia, uri and surgeries./scopes. He has been hospiallized many times. He is now 6 and still at 20% occlusion with the malacia. He also has a gtube after having a nissen done at which time he was diagnosed with a lazy esaphagus and couldn't swallow food past the nissen. Due to obstructive sleep apnia he had adnoids and tonsils removed. As you can see a mom knows when somethings not right with your child. I'm so glad I pushed the drs to do scopes when he was 6 months old. He does have some undiagnosed issues such as chronic fatigue and sporatic tachicardia(fast heartrate) no one seems to know why. Overall he is doing welll for now. January/february are the worst two months for him to get sick. Anyhow I just wanted to say hi, I'm back, and buddys doing ok.

I have introduced myself a couple of weeks ago. I had my beautiful twin boys on November 20 th at 24 1/2 weeks. They both surprised us and the medical staff over and over. Yesterday morning Eli suddenly took a turn for the worse. He had problems with his oxygen and kept dropping his heart rate. They took some blood and found out he was battling a nasty infection. The team tried everything to help my little boy. His kidneys started to fail due to low oxygen levels. He did not respond to anything the team tried. By 5 pm they informed my husband and I Yhat there is nothing else they can do for him. My world ended and my heart broke into pieces. By 8.45 pm my little Angel Eli Michael went to heaven. His twin brother continues fighting an infection as well in the NICU. We are very blessed that we had 31 days to get to know him, love him hold him and Gell him everyday Yhat we love him. But today my heart is heave and the fear continues for my boy ian.

My thoughts are with you as you navigate these waters. Kassandra- Welcome to Share. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your Jaslene. What an amazing lil' girl to have fought so hard. Hi there!
My name is Crystal. I'm mommy to Adam, 5, and Lilliana. Lilly is my TigerLilly - she was born just a few days ago, January 10th, via c-section at the gestational age of 35.5 weeks.
She came out doing just fine, but later she started having problems breathing, and regulating her temperature and blood sugar. The first day was a bit rough, she was on CPAP and sugar water.
She's still in the NICU, off of CPAP and stepping down off oxygen, under bililights and on a bili blanket. She's taking my breast milk like a champion.
Though this is not my first experience with NICU, it's a whole new level of worry and fear. It's nice and a relief to know that I'm not the only one going through this, and that I'm not going crazy.

We are from Lincoln, NE. My husband, my 5 year old son and myself went out to Sidney, NE to visit family for Christmas when I started feeling very very uncomfortable. I had severe back pain and very bad pain across my stomach right below my chest. My husband took me to the ER in Sidney where they did an ultrasound and gave me pain medicine. They came in and told me that I was getting life flighted to Presbyterian/ St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, CO. My husband wasn’t able to fly with me. He had to drive himself (2.5 hour drive). The flight was an hour long. I got to the hospital at about 1am and went in for an ultrasound. The dr came back into the room and asked how much longer until my husband would be here because we were going in for an emergency c section. My husband at that time was about 10 mins away. He came into the room and I had to tell him that we were having our baby that night. The nurse threw him scrubs and told him to change quick. They wheeled me into the operating room where I got a spinal block and my husband came in. Our baby boy was born at 3:43am on Sunday 12/30/12. He was born at 26 weeks at 1 lb 6oz and 12 1/4 inches long. He is now in the NICU at Presbyterian/ St. Luke’s. I stayed in the hospital from Sunday through Friday and then I was discharged. I stayed until this past sunday but decided to come home because my 5 year old needs me to and we were already very tight on finances and this whole ordeal pushed us over. I had a very tough pregnancy so I was let go from my job because I was sick to much. I started watching a couple kids so I could stay home.
Our baby boy is named Julius James. His oxygen levels have been up and down since he was born. He had a PDA which they tried to close with medicine but it didn’t last so being home this week is hard enough since we are 8 hours away from Julius but to make it even worse I got a phone call yesterday afternoon from his doctor telling me that his PDA reopened and they decided to do surgery on his heart in an hour. It was the longest hour of our lives! He did wonderful with the surgery and they also put in a permanent IV line in his neck since they were having trouble getting a central line in because of how tiny he is. He has had 3 blood transfusions so far. He turned 2 weeks on Sunday. We are going to try to get out to Denver every weekend until he comes home but money is tight and it is an 8 hour drive. We filled out the Medicaid forms at the hospital since Julius was born under 1200 grams.
I would like to know what resources are out there for micro preemies.
Thank you
Jennifer Frack

Hello Jennifer and welcome to Share! Congratulations on the birth of Julius! I am so sorry for his early birth though it sounds like he's quite the trooper! I'm not too sure what resources there are other than maybe staying at the Ronald McDonald house if there is one there. You may also check in with his nurses about getting into contact with a social worker, they may be able to find you some resources locally to help your family out. Tons of hugs, and I look forward to reading your updates!
