32 weeks, went into labor, now 3-4cm dilated & 70% effaced with labor stopped (Blog: Lakin's Story)
kgrace - 04:57pm Jun 27, 2012 ESTHello my name is Kathryn. I am sitting in the hospital awaiting the arrival of my second child, Lakin, and currently I'm 32 wks 6 days. I went into labor last Thursday, 32 wks 0 days, and I am dilated to 3-4cm (depending on which doc you ask) & 70% effaced as of Saturday. I have no been checked since then but labor has been stopped with procardia. I stopped using procardia on Saturday also. My first child, Wyatt, was born at 28 weeks on December 11, 2009, we lost him8 days after birth. My husband & I am very terrified of having another preemie. I want to know how long I can sit around dilated like this but that seems to be the question no one can answer. Just like no one can answer why I seem not to be able to carry to term. I was receiving 17p shots & bi-weekly ultrasounds with this pregnancy but yet here I sit. I will be released from hospital at 34 weeks, next Thursday, if no change.

Wow---I'm not sure of that answer either, but I would assume that as long as you're dialated they'd be keeping an eye out for contractions and infection. Procardia was a wonderful help to me with my pre-term labor as well. I hope that you get the answers that you're searching for and that Lakin will continue to stay put for a few more weeks!! I'm sorry to hear about your son's passing and know that heartache as well. Keep us posted.... Tracy

Kathryn,
So sorry to hear about Wyatt. I'll bet he's looking out for his momma and new sibling.

I was dialated from 23 weeka on with my son. I had him at 39 weeks by c section due to him being breech. I was high risk with him due to me having twins previously 4 months premature. I also had 17p shots weekly and weekly ultrasounds. Drs wereny sure how long I would stay pregnant but even with contractions from 32 weeks on and lots of bedrest I managed to keep him in. Good luck and keep posted. You can do it
