Isaiah the Joy of Our Life
Melissa Dunn - 02:01pm Dec 3, 2004 ESTHi My name is Melissa (24) and my fiance's name is Adam (26). We live in Gloucester County, NJ. Our son Isaiah was born January 11, 2002 at 28 weeks. He was in the NICU for about 2 months when he came home March 3, 2002. He had a few complications in the NICU. He had a blood transfusion, and many ultrasounds on his brain which showed that he had Perventricular Leukamelacia which was an early sign that Isaiah would have Cerebral Palsy. When he came home we saw signs of developmental delays right away. He received PT and OT from early intervention. About 3 months after he came home his eyes began to cross. March 6, 2003 he was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. We asked ourselves many times and still do Why did this happen to Isaiah? He had eye straightening surgery July 1, 2003 and worked wonderfully. We are followed by A.I Dupont Hospital for Children in Delaware for Isaiah's orthopedic visits. His doctor is wonderful and I highly recommend him Dr. Kirk Dabney. Isaiah also received botox injection in his legs in Sept. 2004. Isaiah will be 3 yrs old January 11, 2005 and his development has progressed nicely. He stil cannot sit or walk independently. He has a gate walker that he loves. He also is a rolling machine. You turn your head for a second and he's across the room. He also has a speech therapy beause he is not talking like he should but he is so cognitively smart. He knows what everything is. He even can recognize some letters of the alphabet. Isaiah will start preschool at our local elementary school on his birthday which we are very excited about. Isaiah is the joy of our life and has a great personality. If anyone has a similar story and wants to talk to us please feel free to write us. If anyone lives in the South New Jersey area we are looking for people to meet for support. If you want to see pictures of Isaiah visit

Hats off to you
Melissa,
I read your story and was touched. I can just imagine how you felt to know that you had a tiny baby with complications. I have two little girls and they were both born premature. They two have some complications. My older one is 5 and the younger one is 17 months. For me it seems as they get older they develop something wrong. But it has been a blessing for me and my husband to have them in our lives. And for that reason he is a diabetic and I have thyroid problems. So to us they are miricales from GOD!

Hi Melissa
You, Adam and Isaiah sound like such a loving and wonderful family. I saw the pictures...cause I just had to see who this special little angel was. He is absolutely the cutest loveable little fellow! He reminds me a lot of my son Benjamin. I see you live in NJ. I don't know how far I am from you, but I am in Stroudsburg, PA (I-80 takes you straight in) !!! It would be really nice to meet one day if we don't live so far from each other. Benjamin was born at 34 weeks on 12/24/99 with NEC (life threatening bowel and intestinal infection) Almost lost him but happy to say he will be 5 on Christmas Eve. We may have some speech and hearing problems that need to be looked at further. I would love to meet you one day and learn all about Isaiah and the challenges that he has overcome and will continue to conquer!!! My e-mail is Rante@micro-link.net...please feel free to drop a line there or here! All the best to you this holiday season. Brenda & Benjamin (34 weeker born 12/24/99 with NEC)
