Kristofers Story
Dawn Selchert - 10:24pm Jan 21, 2005 ESTHello,
My name is Dawn and I am the proud mother of 2 children (Kristofer age 4 and Kylie 18months). My son Kristofer was 2 months Premature. I had a very strange pregnancy. I did not know I was pregnant (having had regular menstral cycles)..untill I was almost 6 months along. Then I went into labor with him not long after finding out I was pregnant. I was flight for lifed to Denver and on Magnisium and then strict bed rest for 3 weeks untill I gave birth (through emergency C-Section)..my due date was Christmas Eve and he was born Oct. 26 2000.
I am very fortunate, unlike most premies he was suprisingly healthy. I am a strong believer that steroid shots helped. He only weighed 3lb 10oz but was breathing on his own. He did have jaundice but that is typical. They only time he was on Oxygen was supplementel oxygen when he was first learing how to take a bottle. He was in NICU for 2 weeks and the Pediatric ward for 1 week. And came home small but healthy. He is my miracle.
It frightens me to hear the horror stories of all that could have gone wrong...but I have to feel graitful that he survived. I pray for all the familys out there who have had premature infants.
Kristofer is now 4 yrs old and a normal, very active, typical boy.

Thank you for sharing,
Dear Dawn,
It sounds like you have 2 beautiful children, congratulations!
How ironic that you wrote for the first time, at the same time another mother wrote about having a child without knowing she was pg. This, I belive, is a blessing in itself. Though, I know you did realize your were pg at 6 months.
I agree that steroid shots are wonderful things for babies due to be born prematurely. They really do help. It may be the only reason my children did so well in the NICU.
You sound like a wonderful mother full of love for your children. Good luck to all of you!
Melissa

Hi Dawn
Kristofer & Kylie must be your pride and joy....and no doubt they love you very much. It must have been pretty scary to find out at 6 mos that you're pregnant! And then to have a preemie! Truly a miracle in the works here! But I am very happy that your NICU experience was not as long as some of us here had to endure and that both your children are healthy and happy today! All the best to you!
Brenda & Benjamin (34 weeker born 12/24/99 with NEC)
