I'm in Stamford/Abilene, Texas

Hi there I am a mom of a 32 weeker... Hailee.
She was only 2 lbs 14.6 oz and 15.5 inches...
Today she is 20 months old and 22 lbs

She was born in Abilene and luckily got to stay in Abilene at the NICU at Abilene Regional. Her doctor was Dr. James Marshall =)

Mother of Joshlyn, a 25 weeker

Howdy from Lewisville, Texas

Hi Texans,

I love hearing from others about their preemies and I'm so proud of them all!

Updates on Joshlyn of today:
We took her to her pediatrician for her wellness checkup and the results were GREAT! Joshlyn Marie is now 9 months old. She weighs 12lbs, 1oz and 24 1/2 inches long.

We're still trying to get her to get used to the baby food. We've fed her some Del Monte baby food which she doesn't care for so we tried Gerber green beans last night and she seems to like it better. Her doctor told us to steam some freash vegetables and mash them up with some water. We're going to try that.

She stands up but haven't learned how to crawl yet. She can sit up with help. She is catching up fast. She loves her doorway jumper.

We are in the process of updating our web site. www.jmmatthews.net.

You can email me at jlministries777@yahoo.com

Hugs to you all!
Julie

October Birthday in Texas

Hi All,

Joshlyn will be a year old on the 24th. She is doing great. She's crawling, sitting and standing up. She babbles and coos a lot. She amazes us. We are very proud of her and thank God everyday for bringing her into our lives. She weighs around 15 lbs. She is keeping us busy.

Hugs to you all!
Julie

March of Dimes Exhibits

This is from Vicky Leland, one of Joshlyn’s NICU nurse. She took SUPER care of Joshlyn during her stay.

Hello Everyone!

Just wanted to send out an FYI to you all: My March of Dimes Exhibit, titled “Why My Child? A Photo Exhibit on the Crisis of Premature Birth,” has been touring throughout Texas since March. In honor of Prematurity Awareness Month (November), I’m happy to report the exhibit is finally making its way to our part of north Texas!! For those of you who have not been able to see it yet, I wanted to give you dates and places it will be displayed in hopes that you and your family and friends will now be able to come view it.

November 15th: (Which is National Prematurity Awareness Day) Cook Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth will be having a reception for it in its main lobby at 10:30 a.m.

November 21 – 25th: It will be on display at the Medical Center of Plano (corner of 15th Street and Coit in Plano)

November 28 – December 2nd: It will be on display in the main lobby of the FedEx/Kinko’s Corporate Office (by the Galleria in Dallas)

Also, I wanted to let you all know I have a new website up and running (thanks in large part to the help of my very patient husband!!!!) for my book if you are ever interested in getting more copies: www.theworkofyourhand.com.

I hope you all are doing well – haven’t spoken with a lot of you in a long while!! As I put this email list together, it struck me just how many, many truly wonderful families I have come to befriend because our paths crossed in the NICU. I hope all continues going well for all your children, and that the very difficult days of your premature birth experience have become a distant memory, and that God continues to bless all your families with good health and happy times!

Warmly,

Vicky

I am so sorry for your loss. They are looking down on you and they know their Mommy misses them. They will always be with you in spirit. My husband lost his son from an old relationship at 5 months. His son was born premature like my daughter was and I look at him as my son, too. He is missed every day.

May God hold you close to his heart and guide you always.

ps: to Carter Twins - noticed the ever so famous red marks from the apnea monitors - we had one until Sydney's first birthday. only a preemie mom would catch them I think.

Joshlyn's almost 20 mos. old now

    Hi All,

Joshlyn will be 20 months old on the 24th. She is doing GREAT! She is now walking on her own and getting into everything. She has been trying to talk instead of babbling. We went to the NICU reunion last weekend and had a BLAST! We got to see a few of others that were there with my daughter. Everyone was amazed with how Joshlyn is walking on her own and with how well she is doing.

Hope everyone is doing well and God BLESS!

My Taylor was born at 25 weeks at Baylor Downtown and was 1#3oz. She started coming at week 23 but we held her off even though she had no fluid! She is now almost 3 and 21# and other than breathing treatments when she has a cold, she has no symptoms. We had wonderful staff at Baylor and ECI therapists that helped us get to where we are now. It is so great to read everyone's story. I am trying to find out if I can volunteer at Baylor NICU. That is what got me to this page!!

I am from the Sherman Plano Area

I am from a small town of Van Alstyne, but my daughter was born in Plano at Medical Center of Plano! Which I would say had the best NeoNatal! I just loved all th doctors and the nurses! My daughter was born 3 months premature and weighed in at 1 lb 10 ounces. She is going to be 2 this summer and she has no problems from her birth! Actually when she was born, she never had any problems, which every doctor said was strange, due to why she was born! I hope to hear from some fellow graduates parents' from around Texas!

    Hi!!!

I believe we met you and your husband in the hallway at the Plano NICU when we were up there visiting the doctors and nurses with our daughter, Joshlyn who spent 101 days in that NICU from 10/04-2/05. It's GREAT to see how great Emma is doing. She is a DOLL! Joshlyn is now 2.5 yrs old and is doing GREAT.

Yep, I agree... the Plano NICU is the BEST! The doctors and nurses were GREAT!

    Glad to see you here.
